Not exact of course. but I can see him becoming a Guthrie type mid with his ability get around the ground. There is quite a few that look like they have decent chances..

Agreed on that.

What we lack in the under 25 age players are stars. But I think we do have a really good group of players across the ground who are in that younger age group. You need both to be a good team and we’re doing our best to find the right mix.
Adding the best talent we can get both for the team now to win and to develop.
We’re going to see some of our best talent retire soon.
But there will be a core group of players across the field who will have played a lot together. And we will still have some older, experienced stars to compliment that.

With the usual caveats that ultimately we know bugger all, I would really like Egan to be appointed. To be given a temporary gig as senior coach, even in a situation as shambolic as Essendon's, is a big tick. The exposure to another successful program, and life outside the AFL, is also good. If it does happen it'll be interesting to see what position he's given - still short a line coach.

Cook prob knew we were after him and stole him from under our noses. Offered more coin and bigger role.

The way it was reported in the media, Hansen rejected the Geelong offer and accepted a new offer from the Bulldogs instead.

Then several days later he changed his mind and accepted an offer from Carlton.

So if anything Cook stole him from under the Bulldogs' noses.

So with Covid and interrupted runs at a shot in the big time for 15-19 year olds circa 2019. I think the AFL should implement the following policy to promote mature recruits and high standards and career optimism in the state and lower leagues. It would also increase interests in performances as lower tiers.

Each club can nominate 14 individuals over 20 from any level who have aspirations to play AFL and this gives you priority access to them at the next draft but you need to free a list spot and can’t recruit them until then. The players have to agree to it.

The AFL give them access to Free Gym, pool and spa in community, afl clubs give access to clubs nutritionist and performance psych via zoom for 6 sessions, 6 free sports physio sessions via zoom and clubs can invite them to the occasional training if they wish- get them in for 4 sessions with strength and conditioning a year and 2 sit down with a line coach and like for like afl player for advice and encouragement complimented by monthly phone calls from each -clubs have priority access to their nominated 14 in the next draft but if they don’t match they can go to anyone. Lists are public so it creates interest in state leagues and it can become another part of trade week - a steak knives part of a trade can be priority access to a player a club has nominated but doesn’t want to draft in upcoming draft.

It would be fun

Agree, but also need to chase competitors and not just "good blokes". The no d!ckhead policy has seen us become a team full of nice guys. Need another Chappy or Stevie J type or a Scarlett clone who hates losing. Reckon our guys accept losses a bit easy.

Give me 2 Max Rooke’s and I would be a happy man.
Definitely not a d-head, more the larrikin type.

Not exclusive to but certainly strong input from early picks is probably needed. We lack star players under25 but have lacked the highest percentage chance in finding them.

Somehow we have beat the odds find a couple of kids that have had been hidden by circumstance and really are much better than the picks we take them at

We do need mids and the concern might be that brown doesnt quite develop into a mid long term only a half back but i would argue as much as urr mids we need more run and better ball use all over the ground and his ball use is very good so he could well be in the frame for our picks.

I think the best you can do , more often than not , is pick the best talent as you see it at the time...and then use fa or trade to redress list imbalance.

I look at edps mock (thanks to ed and draft central) just as a ref. Brown at 25 and the kid Howes at 26 ... Brown did well at the 20M sprint... while Howes has a good 2k run time... both have appeal.

You just know we’re going to draft a small
Forward “we have plenty” then we will drafted a HBF who can’t get in our side
Along with 2 mids no one has heard of

We definitely need another tall KPD. There is no guarantee that SDK will simply slot in and do well enough to play every game, even if he stays fit. If Blics gets injured, we are in trouble.
The advantage with Schlensog is we could get him as a DFA so not using a draft pick. Do you have any others in mind, preferably with some experience?
If the club considers Schlensog will only get better, we should take him in any case. Young tall potential swingman.
When does the delisted free listing's start?

With Lyon coming in we have toughened the fu** up in our coaching experience, and there is a guy to challenge the groupthink or CS mindset.

Lyon is likely a dick to work with but he has a great footy brain, and will take no prisoners.

Great addition, and maybe will put CS on notice.
Is that fact or hearsay.

Going to be interesting if Wells goes “best available” if his preferred mids are gone by our first pick or just takes the next best available mid?
