Not saying we want him.... but it might help Port get a deal done ...so whats Duursma worth. If Port did trade him what do they get? Perhaps one of Norths picks they must trade?

POWER MID CATCHING INTEREST

PORT Adelaide midfielder Xavier Duursma is gathering interest in Victoria as clubs consider the first-round pick as a trade option.

Duursma is contracted for next year at Port Adelaide but is believed to have caught the attention of rivals, with the Power set for a busy trade period as they target Geelong's Esava Ratugolea, Essendon's Brandon Zerk-Thatcher and Western Bulldog Jordon Sweet as trades this month.

TRADE HUB All the latest player movement news

The 23-year-old played 16 games for the Power this year, for a tally of 73 across his career since joining Port as a first-round pick in 2018.

The hard-working wingman has shown his running power and courage in the air but a club would need to trade for him given his contract having another season remaining in 2024. – Callum Twomey

Zakostelsky looks more like a Blitz, a slightly under-sized ruck, but can play around the ground. I'd be interested to know if he has a massive engine after the testing. It depends if we see Knevitt as the Blitz replacement, which I'm not sure he is as I don't think he can pinch-hit ruck, maybe once or twice, but definitely not 5-10mins per quarter.

I dont see Knev as Blitz replacement. Long term more a big mid. Zako has played ruck and def so he would be a bit like Blitz. probably a good match after adding Furfy as a rookie

Out of interest, which 2 of the 4 that have come down under?
I'm guessing you've conflated two things. One was "Shifter" showing 4 Irish players the facilities at a number of AFL clubs. Geelong today. And my unrelated reference to the Blues "signing" 2 Irish players. The latter apparently occurred in August when a contingent went to Ireland to have a look-see with the view to establishing a base of sorts.

If we’re not all in for Oliver than something is wrong with us.

EXACT player that’d lift us more than anything. It’s our biggest hole. It’s be danger or Cameron level impact.

Our mids are bottom 4 at the minute with maybe holmes and potentially Clark the only decent talent but nothing In Our list looks like becoming a top 10 AFL mid.

We need to go hard.

Oh and Tim Obrien… just stop it

I dont see us having enough to be a legit chance... Our P7 and our Fr1 would still be well short imo.

Ahh, I’ve got ya. Makes sense

My memory is hazy but about 12 months ago, I think the Cats won a flag with Stanley and Blicavs sharing ruck duties?

Add Conway with another pre season and I think we’ll be ok. Also got Furphy Crisp who we rookied recently. Neale as a chop out and maybe another state leauger as back up

Stanley has gone massively backwards. As has most of our team compared to 12 months ago. What we have on paper now is simply not good enough to trouble top 4. We need a better Stanley replacement and A grade mid. The rest is fixable.

According to who? You? I'll be taking the clubs opinion on this one.

Our problem isn't the talent, it's that they're too young or too old. That's where you're correct, and we need a player like Oliver desperately.

So where do we go to get the picks from to accomodate the trade?
Dees would want and will get 3 early first Rounders or 2 and a decent B grader.
Are we willing to offload Max Holmes who was on the Dees radar in the draft?
We have pick 7… and what else? Next years first which should be in the teens.
Easy To say harder to actually do.

Even just playing can improve your tank immensely.

Pretty stupid to think his tank won’t improve, totally agree with you people are gunna be made to loom silly.
I don't think anyone doubts his talent, people like me are worried about going into next season with Stanley, who missed games, and Conway, who missed a lot of VFL/AFL. Need a third, reliable ruck. But I don't think anyone doubts Conways potential.

Callum Twomey has us as one of the clubs now weighing up making a play for Oliver.
I would be surprised if there isn't like 5 or 6 clubs interested. But he is on big coin who can afford him?

Can we stop with the Clayton Oliver pipedream?

We have neither
A) Draft Picks
B) Players

Required to get that deal done that Melbourne would want without gutting our already old list. Cats fans need to lower their expectations.
Even Bailey Smith or Ollie Wines will be hard to get and would require some genius moves to pull it off.

He's going to Adelaide or the Dogs. Nothing surer.

You're right, either go get Smith, or just prioritise picks and young talent like a Lord/Duursma.

Our under 25s have the potential to be really special, it's the best group we've had coming through since the dynasty years...but we need a couple more.

That's our next premiership side for mine, but the club will go for one last shot next year, hence the Oliver talk.

Smith makes more sense though, and suits what we should be doing IMO.

Talent-wise Oliver would be an amazing pick up. As others have said, exactly what we need.

However...
If he's gonna cost MORE than 2 first round picks...
And we have to pay him 7 figures a year...
And his behaviour and professionalism is such that the Dees can't stomach him any longer...

That's massive cost AND massive risk. I don't like it. I'd be worried about the effect on the culture, our ability to bring in other players we need and our ability to pay our other players what they're worth.

Bailey Smith or Lord/Duursma…add in Harmes and TOB as depth guys.
I can definitely get on board with that!

If we are going young we need to go all in on it with guys like Lord/Duursma

If we want to go get a jet, Smith meets that profile

Sorry no way the Dogs will move to get Oliver. They have a glut of Mids already, mids are not their problem, they need defenders and another year or two on JUH and Naughton.

If they can afford to send Macrae to the forwardline for most of the year then they dont need to add another player who is almost the exact same type.
