Could be much better if we finish top 4 and Carlton finish last. Carlton are losing Gibbs and Touhy.

Not to mention both Walker and Jamison have retired, Carlton will be very young next season and still haven't found any KPF to help out Martty Wright their leading goal kicker

Carlton really struggled in the 2nd half of this year and I expect much of the same in 2017

Cant understand why we aren't going to GC with 13 and Lyons for one of their Top 10 picks and one of their 2nd rounders, then we don't need to bloody put any of next years picks on the table

honestly 13 and Lyons for 10 and 26 is a good deal

10 for Gibbs that's it.

An amazing deal for us, but an absolute reaming for Gold Coast.

No-one in their right mind at Gold Coast would be stupid enough to make that trade.

It's Boom or Bust time for me. I'm sick of not making the last weekend!!! I vote YES!!!

Im not trolling...if i was an Adelaide supporter i would vote yes.

I mean, the list has been performing well but appears to be an A grader midfielder short of being a genuine premiership contender...

Premierships are hard to come by and it's all about timing...if the list is peaking and an A grade midfielder like Gibbs just happens to request a trade to you to fill your most obvious hole in the list...that is the stars aligning...you gotta bite the bullet and take a chance.

What's the point of not doing anything this trade period and finishing 5th again? Good season, but not winning a premiership...
Then after next year who knows what will happen, players move, get injured, lose form etc.

As others have said the difference between your 2017 1st and our 2017 2nd isn't likely to be much anyway.

Obviously losing Gibbs will make us even weaker in the short term so i realy don't know why some Adelaide fans are concerned about pick 13 and basically a few picks downgrade.

Therein lies the problem. Do we risk a 'could be' scenario that could also turn really bad if We finish 8th and Carlton finish 10th. We had virtually zero injuries this year.

The 2 firsts scenario is probably ahead on paper but not to the point of the 'stupid' and 'imbecile' comments
I can accept the opinion its too much and not to pull the trigger on Gibbs even though i disagree.

Its the clowns that say 2 firsts for a 28 year old Gibbs! Without acknowledging we get a pick back which should be close to our 2017 first that have been testing my patience.

not after free agency compensation

And we already know who is leaving, how much money they are getting and what the compo picks are?

Are we also going to be one of those people who stupidly include academy picks in claiming it pushes our pick back without realising we actually never had access to those kids to star off with.

There are a lot of free agents next year but how many of thos huge name FA are likely to leave thier teams? Rocky is the only one so far. Talk of Fyfe and and Martin are probably fanciful.

Plus if we happened to be one of those clubs that signs Fyfe or Martin we couldn't give a **** that there is a compo pick pushing our pick back :D

Seriously, even if we slide back 10 spots, it is still better than losing a pick all together next year. I am willing to back in our recruiters to get in a gun with that pick.

Just to add to this...why is everyone quoting him as 28? He's 27 ffs doesn't turn 28 for another 5 months.

And dont give me the bs of 'oh he will be 28 by the time he plays for us next season'...5 months is 5 months. That's basically halfway i could say he's basically 26 by that logic lol.

Then every 29 year old is actually 30 right now? 18 year olds are 19? That's not how age works...

I don't see a problem

After 20 years without a flag and considering the current profile
Of our list it's time to roll the dice a bit

On current ladder position odds the slide on 2017 draft position could translate to about 6 places or even less in the draft

Based on this risk vs reward it's time for the club to back itself in and roll the dice

We don't trade in an A grade mid and you kiss a flag goodbye anyway. I will be stoked if we go all out to win it. Gibbs is step 1.

Sure Gibbs is step 1, whats step 2 and when will step 2 eventuate. If step 2 takes another 2 years I'd argure the Gibbs trade achieves nothing.
We need step 2 now. Maybe well see it come to fruition end of trade week, not sure how or who though.

Using father son points as an indicator, unless we seriously drop off next year and Carlton shoot for the top 8, we'd be giving up MORE for Gibbs by adding a second rounder to Pick 13 than if we swapped our 2017 first for their 2017 second. Doesn't matter though, the melties on this board hear "2 first rounders" and the blood starts boiling. Can't help imbeciles like that.
Wether its two firsts with a second back or a first and second its too much.
Unless you dont know football and think Gibbs is A grade talent with the likes of Dangerfield, Fyfe, Sloane, Gray etc.

You repeat exactly what i said and then say comprehension isnt my strong point... beautiful irony mate

You post is being deceitful in suggesting that Carlton gave up pick 3 another 1st rounder and pick 30 for Judd but we are giving up 2 1 st rounders for Gibbs.

Botton line is tha Carlton gave up equivalent of 2 top 5 picks and pick 30. Two top 5 picks has more value than two first rounders which in this case are two picks in the teens

That is even if what you are claimingirst up is valid to start with. We are giving up a 1st rou d pick and downgrading another first round pick by a few spots. I know that's almost impossible for you to grasp so I am not sure why I even bother.

We have a mathematical genius in our midst I see..

Season 2016 played for Carlton at 27 years old for the entirety of the season
Season 2017 if playing for the Crows he's 28 years old for the entirety of the season.

Are you serious, he'll be 28 when he plays in our strip. I could give a fat rats clacker what his age is now.

Because it wouldnt be rolling the dice lol. Rolling the dice says there is a chance they come up in our favor

So you think pick 13 and pick 15-20 will help you compete for a flag more in the next 3 seasons than a 27 year old Gibbs?

Obviously you rather the 2 picks long term, but you guys wanna be good now and we wanna be good later.

You fellas crack me up.

The bottom line is he is 27 right now. It really is black and white.

People keep referring him to being 28...if he was really 28 right now he would be 29 in his first season with Adelaide...it all counts and misleads others too who actually think he is 28 RIGHT NOW.

Fair enough. I'll back us in either way, we just need to be aware how quickly ladder positions can change. 2016 Bulldogs and Freo for example. Trading out our first in two consecutive years also affects our ability to trade picks in the following two years so that needs to be taken into account. I'm sure the club has certain targets in the 2017 draft which will also impact the decision too.

I'm still holding out hope that neither scenario comes into play and we land him for 13 plus later pick swaps in 3rd or 4th round.

So how much more football will he play while he's 27?

If we were the only trade outstanding then yes get worries, there is a log jam of major trades waiting and we are clearly mixed up in them
What the hell is going on with the Cloke trade that was meant to be done on day one?
