Grigg>Collins

I don't think I've seen too many butcher the footy like Grigg does in the 35 years I've been following footy....he'll get his hands on the thing, but shut your eyes when he goes to drop it onto his boot. Good luck guys!

Don't know who is better cause I haven't seen Collins play too often... however on pure character alone... it seems like we have traded the worst character money hungry easy game chasing player, for a grand bloke who gives it his all and is fully motivated

Andy may be a good bloke but geez, if you look at him in the flesh, you'll see that he hasn't been that motivated to get into the gym. Hence why he's probably out the door.
Do you have a gym at Carlton?

tigers fan will never love grigg as much as we did with collins. in about a year i reckon we'll look back at this trade a say "yeah we messed that one up" thanks craig cameron..

You'd have to say that Hardwick was part of the decision. Either way, it'll be credit or criticism to both of them. Not just Craig Cameron.

I love Andy more than most and think he will be an exceptional player in 2 years time but if I was faced with the qwandry of getting both Grigg and Houli for Andy then I would have to put my football brain on and hit that button. It just hurts because Andy is such a strong character at the club and is dearly loved by us supporters and the playing group.

One thing is for sure and that is this club is serious about what they are building and gone are the days of having Tivendales and Hydes clogging up our list for 3 quarters of a decade.

Sometimes tuff decisions need to be made. It sucks though !

questions re Grigg/collins trade

ok, as far as i know grigg requested to be traded because he wasn't getting enough games.

why did he request richmond?

from what i have read on bigfooty somewhere, someone said he will be getting more money here, has he come for better money?

did collins get asked or did collins put his hand up?

See, this is hardly the point. The point is that we had all the power in the trade and we fold like a deck of cards.

They're probably equal in terms of who is better than who. We get that.

What power both Carlton and Essendon knew that for us to get both we had to do a deal with one of them. We did the deal and can now tell Essendon to take a late draft pick for a trade or Houli goes to the PSD.

No one has said Collins is better that Grigg the problem is we didnt need to give COllins up for him.

We refused to give up 29 for Grigg. That was off limits as was spoken about on trade week radio.

Obviously we didn't rate Collin that highly.

I think on the table he was a third rounder ranking by our staff.

Re: questions re Grigg/collins trade

From what I've read, Collins comes from a Carlton family. His uncle played in their 1979 premiership team.

Also heard that Carlton brought his name up and Richmond ask Collins if he wanted to go there, completely his decision (RFC_Official stated this).

Grigg apparently wanted to get traded because he was tired of Ratten always pumping games into the same players (Gibbs, Yarren, ect) even when they weren't worth it, and he missed on opportunities.

He also got offered more money and was explained in thorough detail his role in our team. These were all factors in his decision, I doubt it was all about money, I'm sure the kid was excited that our club had a plan for his services.

Hope this helps!

Couldn't of said it any better myself.

Re: questions re Grigg/collins trade

thats a good answer CNB, im warming to grigg, its still a shock though that collins, whom i thought was a big part of our future, was quick to go.

Re: questions re Grigg/collins trade

We certainly have room for another midfielder in our side. Grigg will probably indeed get regular games with us. Lets hope he performs when given the chance to do so. Why Collins is gone isn't really important.

Re: questions re Grigg/collins trade

Its quite easy for the RFC official to state that it was completley Collins decision, but seriousley, how much expectation and pressure/perceived or real, would there have been on the lad to yield and relent to our clubs wishes, despite what and where he most wanted to be....

Re: questions re Grigg/collins trade

Here's my question to this thread. How have we lost so bad when we have just traded a pick #73 player for a pick #19 in the same draft?? Carlton were in full rebuild mode when they picked Grigg, so they must have seen something in him!

Re: questions re Grigg/collins trade

the thing about grigg though is that he seemed to come straight out saying he wants to play for richmond, before richmond had spoken to him, thats why i would like to know WHY he chose richmond. CNB?

i think alot of people would say that collins has applied himself more to being a professional footballer, tries harder and has actually shown more on field, despite playing less games. i cant say thats my personal opinion as i havn't seen or taken my attention to grigg, ever.

Re: questions re Grigg/collins trade

Grigg apparently wanted to get traded because he was tired of Ratten always pumping games into the same players (Gibbs, Yarren, ect) even when they weren't worth it, and he missed on opportunities.

I'm sorry but this made me laugh hard. Gibbs, a guy who finished amongst the leaders for the Brownlow medal only a year ago isn't worth games? Sure. Just like Richard Tambling is a better prospect than Buddy Franklin.

Grigg wanted out because he wasn't getting regular games. You're spot on there. Richmond saw the potential in him, which he has quite a bit of, and chased him hard just as they have Bachar Houli. However, Grigg was very lazy at times and didn't work to earn the games that he felt that he warranted.

He did, when he got his opportunities, play a few blinders. In the Essendon game he was one of the best players on the ground.

The trade will ultimately be a win by Richmond (Grigg is better than Collins) but from our trading position even with Grigg being better than Collins it's a big win for us.

I'm glad and thankful that Richmond played fair and just in the trade process. It bodes well for your team in the future. Next time we may be in the position that you were in in regards to potentially getting a player for free from Richmond in the PSD or the NAB Draft. Your fairness and ethical trading will not be forgotten.

Good luck with Grigga - I do think he'll turn it on for you. The skills are there. Hardwick would be an ideal coach for him and the Richmond team environment will be good for him. One of my biggest gripes with Carlton is that all too often it appears that they play as a bunch of highly talented individuals. My greatest appreciation of your club is that it is the exact opposite- I do feel that Hardwick got more than the sum of the parts out of your team this year. I think Collins will be good for us in that regard while I think Richmond will be good for Grigg.

Grigg has shown a fair bit. He's been criticized unjustly at times. However, the mental mindset is that it should be given to him rather than earned. The polar opposite of what we've seen and heard about in Collins. However, Grigg has more potential than Collins. If he can learn to apply himself you have an underrated potential gun in your hands - my opinion.

If Grigg reaches his peak he's a walk-up best 22 player for your team for a fair while. I don't think the same can be said for Collins who I believe will ultimately be one of those outstanding depth players - which is perfectly acceptable as each club needs a handful of them in case of injury, loss of form or whatever. My question - where does Collins find playing time with the three amigos?

Good luck.

Re: questions re Grigg/collins trade

Unfortunately it is the "AFL industry" as Stalin et al keep referring to the great game being. This is the modern reality where the jumper means very little. I was so disappointed upon hearing this news, however RFC are the only club to have a full time opposition analyst and this is obviously a carefully considered decision.

As heartbroken as we all are, we are now in no doubt that the club will make tough decisions regarding our list in order to win our next flag.

I was actually wondering whether Richmond asked Collins if he did want to go to Carlton, and if he said no then maybe Collins would still be with us.

It's done deal now, so we can't back. Anyway let's see what Grigg offers us.

Re: questions re Grigg/collins trade

There is a real Carlton connection as not only was Andrew recruited from Bendigo, the home of many Carlton greats, he is also the nephew of Peter Francis, who played in Carlton’s 1979 premiership team."

just copied this off the AFL website may explain why Collins was happy to move to Carlton.

Re: questions re Grigg/collins trade

Im glad we came to an agreement in the end, will miss collins but i am putting my trust in dimma and co.

If we ended up bending carlton over a barrel it just would have come back to bite us later

surprised it went for a straight swap with no picks involved considering the respective contract situations but all is well that ends well

Welcome to Tigerland Grigg

Re: questions re Grigg/collins trade

Iam extremely disappointed to see grigg leave Carlton & the FCC have a very good player on their hands. I as a Carlton supporter do agree that grigg wasn't given all the chances he should of been given this year andthere were times this year where he should of been played instead of some other players.
Not sure if it's all fattens fault or if it was a mc decision but what's done is done and we must live with the outcome.
I personall would of preferred a pick instead of Collins because I can't see where he would fit our team and see him more as a depth player on our list. Good luck to Shaun and hope he finds what he's looking for.

Just a quick question for the tiger supporter though would you guys have preferred to lose a player like Morton, Jackson,Edwards,Connors than Collins if the answer is no ...... You have a bargain
