We underperformed this year plus injuries, list is still in its peak, will it get us a flag?
Let's unpack this....

Carlton 'underperformed' in 2024, despite their last three seasons being:
12 wins
13 wins
13 wins

Nope.

Carlton are performing exactly as the astute judges expect. Mid table.

What’s laughable is how worked up you are getting over my opinion in an opinion thread.

Not worked up at all. It was a pretty standard rebuttal to a pretty standard crap post.

One you’re of course entitled to make all the same.

I don’t agree with everything everyone else says also, and very rarely do I agree with anything you post but just because I think Carlton’s list has peaked and that a few sides will go past them and that most likely pick 3 (4) after Ashcroft may not have an immediate impact is far from laughable.

You don’t agree with what I post? Oh no…what am I going to do? 😭

My post had nothing to do with countering your thoughts on whether Carlton has peaked.

Again, you have no idea whether anyone will or won’t make an immediate impact at AFL level.

Neither do I or anyone else.

Yet only one of us is deluded enough to confidently state one way or the other.

You can be of that opinion. But don’t get upset if someone calls you out for it.

Carlton didn’t really set the world on fire and were embarrassed in an elimination final, I think they’ll go back a bit.

Cool. An opinion you’re entitled to hold. Time will tell if you’re right or wrong, but I’m tipping if you’re wrong you won’t admit it.

So, Carlton being a mid table team, should continue down the same path with players such as Owies and Kennedy ( who genuinely won't improve as players ) or alternatively, tick over the list slightly to change things up a but .
I dunno, some of you posters want your 50 cents each way and will try to prove otherwise what is wrong with Carlton. God forbid they keep a list together that is "middling"

Carlton's best 5 players are more important to them than any other team's best 5 players.

Would you like me to calculate the probability of Carlton's best 5 players missing more than 10 days combined in 2025?
How do you think Collingwood would go without Daicos x2, Moore, Degoey and Mihocek?

Hell I'd back you in for bottom 6 if N.Daicos missed a large chunk of the season alone.

Blues are the same as any other team re star players, just happens our best 5-6 is arguably the best or close to the best of any list so it looks worse.

Geez, that constant back and forth between Collingwood and Blues supporters gets tiring after some time. Stay on the point :)

As for the question asked, IMO way too early to say. Probably not. Their spine is fantastic. Top players are entering prime time except Cripps. Did they underachieve in the last couple of years? Possibly. Progress is not linear. Teams need some initial finals experience first usually. Is Voss right coach? Not sure. Did injuries have impact as much as some fans claim?

Competition is crazy even. Quite a lot of teams are on the up. 15 teams could realistically make finals.

Teams need a lot to go right to succeed. For me most concerning for Blues is how long can Cripps perform as he did in last couple of years. He was fantastic and to be honest most of his career carried Blues. I expect his body is battered.

Can Walsh return to his best is another key question. His back could limit him.

Cerra reoccurring soft issues were very disappointing.

Weitering needs a partner in crime.

Small forwards are just potential.

TDK firing for the whole season could be a key factor.

Do Blues have a good depth?

In summary, I doubt Blues can win it all next season. But what do I know.

lets be realistic here.

carlton was clearly many rungs below the other finalists this year. 60-0 is an embarrassment befitting a team that had no place in the finals series.

there is very little natural improvement left in the list - the young players are battlers like o hollands and motlop with limited upside and the stars are all in their prime or exiting it in the case of saad, docherty and cripps.

if i had to hazard a guess, nearly everyone voting no would support carlton. because the answer is really self-evident to any neutral observer.

st kilda will finish higher than carlton next year. bookmark it.

I’ll go over the bolded parts for you.

Why was my post standard and crap? Because I think Carlton have peaked and will get passed by a few sides ?

As for having ‘no idea’ for whether they will impact straight away, again it’s my opinion that they won’t, in 3-5 seasons, yes they most likely will, but in season 1 highly doubtful, I’ll be more then happy to revisit this in 12 months time and eat my words, I doubt however you will do the same.

And why would you say that I won’t admit being wrong?

It doesn’t seem that I’m the only one of the opinion of the Blues going backwards in this thread either.

So to my OP, IMO Carlton have peaked and will fall behind all of Collingwood, Freo, GC and Adelaide next year.

Cheers

Again, I made it very clear I had no issue with you stating we’d stall or go backwards.

You’re entitled to your opinion and time will tell whether it is right or wrong.

Ah yes, the opinion you backed up with there being no Daicos or Reid in this draft class.

Which of course is hilarious…because it’s not just those two who have come in and made an impact.

How convenient you completely ignore the other players who have done exactly that.

Will it happen again in 2025? Maybe, maybe not. I’m not in any position to make an educated claim one way or the other.

And guess what. Neither are you, no matter how many times you may want to try and convince yourself otherwise.

Not all of us want to ignore reality. But to each their own I guess.

Cheers.

Why did the Camporeale twins fall away so dramatically? Ben was best on in the U17s Futures match last year (source) and both were considered first round prospects, with Ben being considered a likely top 10 pick (source). Now people are saying they're not even in top 30 contention. Was it the pressure of living up to the hype that comes with being a highly rated F/S prospect? The same thing appeared to happen to Adelaide's F/S prospect Tyler Welsh this year so it's not uncommon for this to happen.

I'm guessing that's a part of the reason Carlton pushed to secure pick 3 this year. They would have been thinking at the start of the season that they were probably going to recruit a top 10 midfielder (or two) and likely planned for that accordingly. Then they probably had to pivot when it became obvious that neither Camporeale twin was going to live up to the hype and that leads to trading in pick 3 instead. It's an interesting insight into their list build and probably suggests that they suspect their midfield will need refreshing in 2-3 years from now when Cripps is nearing mid-30s.
Maybe doing a classic Carlton tankjob in lowering their worth in the draft. TBH it's the smart thing to do.

No, it's just the usual conglomerate of posters in the same threads all with the same opinion about the Blues for a number of years.
We agree on 1 thing - if you think Carlton will fall behind Collingwood next year, you must think that Carlton are currently in front. Nice

He's simply playing a numbers game.

Go back each year and list all the players who have had a material impact on their teams' performances in year 1?

Happy to start with 2024, where the list is between 2 and 4 players long:
1. Harley Reid
2. Shaun Mannagh (mature age)
3/4. Watson and Dear, after their finals performances.

Then we have 2023:
1. Sheezel
2. Ashcroft (through to his knee injury)

But let's revisit after 2025...

Take one out of yours and you are in trouble
We've played many stretches without each of the 3 u listed and been fine. Beat Brisbane in Brisbane this year without Weitering, won a dozen games or so in a row in 2023 with McKay missing half of them and spent almost 3 full years without Curnow.

But please, continue the hyperbolic drivel...

If you’re going to turn this into another Collingwood Carlton shite fight go here

Carlton are definitely mid table and will unfortunately fall down the ladder soon - albeit possibly not in 2025.

Many reasons, the mismanagement of their salary cap has to be in question... very reliant on a few players.

2024 showed that with injuries, the Blues have very limited depth.

Excited to see the Blues, Tigers, Demons and Magpies occupying the bottom 6 in 2026 and beyond.

I think a list peaks when majority of your best players/team are in their prime 24-29 which blues are now with 1 player u25 in their bnf top 10.
Blues get the favourable draw the questionable umpiring their captain had the best individual season ever last year their fwds are already Coleman medalist the only hope for blues is they have an injury free season and every player be at their best which I haven’t heard of.

Carlton have 'been fine' when those players have missed?

We're talking about whether Carlton can contend for a premiership here, and the bottom line is that Carlton haven't contended with or without those players playing.

And 9 wins in a row is now 'about a dozen'?
