D’ambrosio was effectively undervalued/ unwanted. Chol also, and Gunston was a donation to lions from us initially.
If you go down that route, of our FA/trade-ins during Scott' 15 years only Dangerfield and Cameron were desperately wanted and appropriately valued by their clubs. Hence needing to part with a few first round picks for them (still unders) despite their free agent status.

Ablett and Tim Kelly were desperately wanted and appropriately valued by Geelong. So the ledger is pretty even and the rest is all doing what every other club does: seeing more value in players than their host clubs do. And yes, that includes Bailey Smith.

You keep saying trade. There was no trade. Geelong gave up no player or draft pick.
You might find the rules get changed about this type of thing, there is a lot of discussion.
You can't have a team making the prelim nearly every year and getting these gift deals.
Hey that's not true, we gave up a future Rd 3 pick

More players from the Rookie draft and Cat B (8) than trade (5) and DELISTED free agents (2) combined... :eekv1:

Current Geelong should be battlers in the GFL with this kind of build.

They'd struggle to beat current day North Shore with a list like that.

Wait, no Father-Sons, no academy picks, no non-delisted FA's, only one top 10 pick and he isn't even in the starting 22? Damn thats crazy

Do you really think Jack Bowes would agree to play for free for 2 years? There were plenty of clubs willing to pay out his contract to get the draft pick.

Geelong were the only one running to add 2 years on solid money. He was owed something like $1.8m over 2 and Geelong's paying him $2.6m over 4.

Geelong fans 101.

"Danger, Cameron, Smith, Ablett Jnr all needed to come home, those clubs owed
it to them to help them., its outrageous if they dont."

One player wants to go home to be with his wife and kids, "Lol **** him, Geelong owe him nothing."
Which geelong fans said they needed to come home? We wanted them to. No one said they had to.

Cameron trade was definately not unders. 3 first rounders for a 28 year old coming off an injury plagued season. Felt like overs. We have been very lucky that he has been completely injury free since his first season with us and actually rose a level rather then fall a level as they often do at that age

You'll notice I grouped Dangerfield and Cameron together - 4 first round picks parted with collectively for 2 guns. We got 2x 2nd round picks going the other way in the Cameron trade as well. He was still a superstar forward and Dangerfield was a superstar midfielder - any club would do those deals if they had the opportunity.

People grouping Smith in with those two players is the amusing bit. Smith was red flags galore and had a poor 2023 before his ACL.

What happened yesterday? I was told by the media that Geelong were shoe ins, but they were anything but shoe ins.
