I don't agree with this. Neeld never thought that Byrnes and Rodan would play in a Melbourne premiership, or perhaps even finals. They were brought in to provide experience and maturity so not all of the burden goes on young kids like Viney and Toumpas, or even slightly older ones like Trengove. Not all lists can be about future premiership players, there are stepping stones. His thinking was right. The execution in terms of whom we got though, is looking questionable. Our biggest recruit was Dawes though who is yet to play, let's not forget that. Rodan, Brynes and Gilles were all steak knives.

I see your point and in a large way that is correct thinking on his part (ie shouldering the load, provide example for the kids) but with what they have dished out so far, he has to take a large portion of the blame. And why drop Rodan after a game? Baffling. Also, if I dont think Dawes will change things a lot, the problems lie further up the ground

Look at the Melbourne players, they're the useless ones. I would be embarrassed as a Melbourne player.

Crows looked like that in NC's last year, the next they were 5 points (and some cheating bastard umpires) away from a GF. personally i think at melbourne the problem is with the players/recruiting/development but if the senior coach cant motivate/scare them into putting up a competitive effort then he may be the problem. There are no excuses for that kind of loss, if i were coaching i would absolutely flog them on the track until they got the message that lack of effort wouldnt be tolerated. And get them to watch we are marshall or something...

Oh so the players havent run out Daniher, Bailey and possibly now Neeld? They made a decision to go with Neeld knowing he isnt a experienced coach and need to back him in.

Why should they continue to back their decision if all evidence indicates it was the wrong decision? To preserve their ego's? Neeld seems like a nice enough bloke but he doesn't have the tools or the experience to dig Melbourne out of this hole anytime soon.

so sack a bloke after 20 odd games coaching? so u bring in a experienced coach and nothing changes which will be the case. Coaches can only take so much blame, time to put the players in the gun. Neeld needs to make a statement and drop guys like Sylvia and not play them again for the rest of the year and get games into guys who want to wear the guernsey with pride

Theyve stuffed themself player wise by delisting anyone even close to 27 and up in terms of age. They should look very hard at second tier levels next year and grab some strong bodied guys that are at the top of their respective competitions in terms of talent. Their kids are getting punished week in week out. Trengrove/grimes captaincy is a joke.

Get rid of their current older players that wont and dont lead by example with effort.

You're never going to improve with players that give piss weak efforts and aren't skilled. It's even worse when it seems to be accepted. These players need a kick up the arse and they need to have their playing future questioned.

Have to feel for Dees fans. No fans deserve to see imbeciles ruin their club when they're paying money each year to watch them.

Tell all the players that any non-top 8 style player will be sacked at years end.
Follow through with it and get rid of all the players that dont make the effort. Also sack ALL the coaches and any game day staff.
Use the preseason and rookie draft to stock up.

If this keeps going any longer, you might see the AFL step in and make one of the above two an offer they can't refuse.
