How do you fix Melbourne?

You have supporters admitting you tanked.

I strongly believe the afl didn't find you guilty of tanking as a result of their abortion of an investigation because if they did, then they'd be admonishing a monster they created. They grew the forbidden fruit, you ate it. Which is why they still punished you, but for a lesser charge.

That doesn't change anything regarding GWS and the downright ludicrous deflective assertion that they tanked.

I believe we tanked.

But there's no proof - so you best not mention it.

Have you ever actually seen anybody like this? I'm going to go out on a limb and say no. There are plenty of myths about Melbourne supporters, but just because people find it funny to keep repeating them doesn't make them true.

Yes I have actually, the MCC Members is full of them !!

I really just want to know why some posts are deleted but a blanket bay 13 style "team x (GWS in this case) tanked" with no reasoning or thought behind it is not allowed to be questioned. Is it because there aren't many supporters of that club on here?

Ok to explain myself. but the BF-style definition of tanking, GWS tanked. They rested most of their good players knowing full well they would likely lose and end up with some seriously huge benefit.

I don't think its tanking as far as teh AFL rules go (which is deliberately throwing games), but its "tanking" as far as BF goes.

I don't disagree with them doing it either, I'd hope the Demons would do the same in that situation. I used that example because it isn't as if GWS set out the entire year to finish last, or deliberately lost, they just KNEW they would (in all likelihood) with the team they selected. And if the AFL Demons investigation proved anything, its that you can't "tank" from the selection table.

How is that ludicrous? Did you see the team they put on the park for that game?

It isn't tanking by the AFL rules, and nor was what Melbourne did. But its' "tanking" as far as BF is concerned.

But why does this thread need to dragged into the tanking saga? That's done. Gone. Finished.

What Striker threw out there with this thread is more about how Melbourne can go forward and what we need to do to drag ourselves back up the ladder. Tanking has nothing to do with it now. There is no need to even go there.

There is no need to even go there.

I was only responding to the aspersion that GWS tanked. You know, it's a discussion forum and I was discussing how I thought it was a stupid opinion designed to make people look elsewhere.

I'm interested to see the 'bad to ditch players' post on one hand, yet see 'picked the wrong players' on the other. Just from my point, I bloody well hope someone makes an RFA mega-punt on Colin Sylvia - mostly to get his shitty inconsistency out of the club. Further, if they do I believe it would be rewarded with a 1st-round pick.

Based on that...would we be able to trade even 2 first rounders for a big midfield punt? I'm thinking someone 25 or so who could slot straight in...something like a Pendlebury perhaps. 2 1sts is nothing to sneeze at in such a situation, particularly if they're at 4 and 5...

Think the best way to fix us is to trade away this years pick for someone experienced and classy with a good few years left. List just isn't up to scratch and hasn't been for years.

We have to think that through first though. No good throwing picks away, or someone like Sylvia, if there isn't something else on the market of at least equal value that has some interest in joining the club. I'm keen to use our picks as trade bait again as we have enough young players on our list, but I don't just want to trade them away for the hell of it.

Don't use the old "this is a discussion forum" nonsense. It's crap. Of course you can post whatever the hell you like. I was just making the point that, in this instance, any discussion of tanking is irrelevant. I'm just hoping every Melbourne thread in the near future doesn't need to descend into discussions about that as it's done.

Sylvia's more a what-happens case for me. If someone throws Goddard level money at him, he can walk to be honest - I'd much rather spend that cash on a top-end midfielder who won't be earning as much at another club.

Blatant self bump.

pfft I bumped it yesterday and got a red card for my troubles.

All I'll say now is the Melbourne supporters claiming Neeld>McCartney because McCartney has a beard look very stupid.

Fair comment, but is there an ability in the club to deliver?

So many high draft picks on the list, when did the last one come thru ... the problems are deep ! Words are cheap !

Just watching the presser, Neeld has a terrible twitch, that's very scary stuff.

"We didn't see that coming!"- Mark Neeld 31/03/2013. Didn't see what Mark? That round 1 actually started and the NAB cup finished 2 weeks ago. What a ridiculous thing to say, especially coming from a head coach of an AFL side.

Just watched the AFL 360 footage from the end of the Neeld/Grimes press conference.

I don't think Neeld is built to be a senior coach. Over-emotional. The way he cold shouldered Grimes and left him sitting at the desk, for a club with young captains like they have, Jack looked shattered and there was just nothing but venom from Neeld.

Obviously outside looking in, but looked really bad to me. You can be as knowledgable about the game as you like, but if you can't man manage you're nothing as a coach.

You're all missing the real problem. What HASN'T changed since 186?

How many of the assistant coaches are still there?

Navy and red guernsey?

Jack Watts still getting a game?

Club culture still accepts mediocrity?

Throw us a bone here.

Do you think Cameron Schwab leaving will make a 12 goal difference?
