It’s a frickin football forum, not a research institute. You have the option of not answering if you don’t like the question. Smart ass answers are just as time wasting.
and we get reports all the time about threads being off topic

Haha it’s unbelievable. If it was a question about Matthew Guy, posters would have lined up to answer it.
it did get answered, that doesn't mean it wasn't an off topic question or that you could have at least put some effort in yourself

you're still pissy that people are asking what you did prior to asking the question in here to get an answer

Off topic? there are posts on the previous page about income tax in Japan and California 🤣.

Stop trying to engage in conversation with me, I discussed it with Crankyhawk, who was happy to chat about it. You could have just skipped past my question, anyone could, but instead decided to rant about Google. Grumpy flog.

Here is an interesting development that deserves discussion in this thread given Dan's involvement in making Peter Marshall one of the most potent union officials. The UFU is now lobbying to establish a "fire fighters regulatory board", not unlike the Victorian Institute of Teaching, to require operational fire fighters to be registered. Sounds like a good idea in principle.

However, the 'not-for-profit' company established to manage registrations is owned by UFU president, David Hamilton. Firefighters will be required to pay $180 annually, and this new company will have absolute veto powers on who can and can't be a registered fire fighter.

One can only hope this is challenged in the courts. After all, who is the employer, the UFU or FRV?

Will Dan say anything about this development? Unlikely

Hamilton should have to sell the company for this to fly.

CFA currently seems more worried about the UFU doing their usual CFA members aren't firefighters schtick

Courts siding with Federal Labor

This could mean we see more attempts to use the courts for internal party issues nationally

This case was a win for non-intervention by the court. The applicants wanted to overturn by decision by Federal Labor to take-over the pre-selection for Victorian candidates. They lost both the initial case and the appeal.

So not yet.

This is a solution without a problem - there are no private firefighters who need to be regulated. The government, who hire all the firefighters, already have quality control over firefighters.

Also, don't sleep on this being a stealth strategy to do away with volunteer firefighters: establish this quasi-regulatory agency, embed it in the paid system, then find a way (like through an EBA) to introduce "all firefighters need to be registered with the board" to basically make it impossible for volunteer firefighters to be engaged.

I am really in the dark as to why the UFU would want to marginalise volunteer fire fighters. They are the backbone of fire fighting in rural Victoria. Since the UFU shitfight started, the total number of volunteer fire fighters in Victoria has fallen, to the point that some farmers are buying their own ex CFA fire trucks to ensure fires on their properties can be fought. This, in itself is creating problems because the trucks need to be accredited by the government. Lucky we did not have any big outbreaks this summer.

I saw that statement from the government. Not sure whether I believe it. Regardless, it's now out in the open, and the government can and should say it will not happen, unless of course the agenda is to cede management of FRV in the UFU.
I don't think it should happen and saying they won't let it happen would be good but its unlikely that they will respond to a Murdoch hit piece like you want them to

Because the only place reporting this is News Corp and its being reported in their normal Unions/Labor bad style so its hard to know how much substance there is to the allegations

Sure, I get that in this forum. It would need to have been a Twitter post to have credibility. However, its either factual or its not? Do you think the story is made up? Pretty elaborate story if fictional. I haven't seen or heard David Hamilton deny it.

The article says, "Draft documents presented to FRV's consultative committee, leaked to the Herald Sun, show a not for profit company founded by UFU President David Hamilton would control the board"

Sounds to me like someone from within FRV who doesn't like what is happening has leaked the story.

Yeah I'm talking about the attacking Andrews with it part

Why isn't that warranted? He created the "monster" and in so doing has given Peter Marshall unprecedented power. Remember Jane Garrett resigned because she was opposed the EBA and the UFU's plans to carve up the CFA, and Dan did not support her.

Next thing the UFU will lobby for the SES to come under its umbrella

Attacking Andrews is all they do
It doesn't matter what is actually going on

So like I said I'm waiting for more than a few paragraphs from one journo

CFA new Volunteers were at an all-time high pre-COVID, but COVID meant training stopped (I was enrolled and had begun training which then ceased).

So it's not "since the UFU fight started", because volunteers were up post-UFU, it was because of COVID that volunteers couldn't complete training and there's now a back-log.

But whatever suits your narrative.

As for the accreditation, it might help CFA Volunteers who want to take the step up towards FRV. Should be Govt funded, not privately run. Training for fire-fighting should always be publicly governed and run.
