It is difficult to get statistics to support either case. Certainly there were contact isolation issues until the relaxation allowing rat use for essential workers (though who could find the things?) but there were also many directly ill (think we had 70 doctors sick at the same time at one point - well by sick I mean testing positive- some asymptomatic some more unwell though not aware of any hospitalised this time from hospital)
The Guardian reported on 6 January, "While there is no hard data on how many people are off work because they have Covid, are isolating due to being a close contact or are waiting for a test, some companies are reporting that half of their employees are unable to attend."

So why would anyone now be saying outright that close contacts being forced into iso was rubbish?

It’s done now. Asymptomatic people won’t need to isolate for much longer. Which is welcoming news. On top of that, we have the lowest cases in hospital with covid since September 2021. They have also scrapped the PCR payment - people won’t be mucking around with testing anymore who aren’t sick. If you’re sick, do your rapid and stay home when required.

I think you are reading their posts differently to me they are just saying what they experienced in their workplace which was more direct illness or household contacts with need to give care to those unwell

We received 18,000 masks early last week, 3 days before they announced that most people in schools no longer have to wear them!!!

their need isnt disappearing any time soon in aged care, disability, or health

AND they remain mandatory for public transport

Typical Labor narrative. There is no doubt whatsoever that forcing close contacts into isolation had a massive impact on the economy, particularly in logistics, and to pretend now this was bullshit is completely disingenuous. If I'm wrong then produce the statistics
mate you're blaming politicians for a ****ing virus in a pandemic

you want to know what you can point the finger at Dan for re the issues with large amounts of workers being off sick or living with people who were off sick?

opening up for Christmas

All true, but I am talking specifically about a school, where, as of Saturday, about 3/4 of the total people on-site are no longer required to wear them.

I get that there is going to be wastage (2 RATs for every staff member and student per week is a good example) but why would you continue rolling out a program in the knowledge that the goal posts are about to shift?

Prohibiting majority of unvaccinated from working onsite has until now been necessary to protect others. But it seems high vaccination rates leading to removal of major restrictions, as well as reduction in testing/isolation requirements, suggest main risk has passed. If so, why is limitation on majority of unvaccinated still in place?

Our daily No's will drop fast now, given the government will no longer supply the 450 for not being able to work, plenty of rat tests will be available as well, as people won't bother If they can't get paid for taking one.
You're forgetting about the massive spike in cases that will eventuate from people not wearing masks.

For shits and giggles

Both! We're constantly told how valuable masks are to surpressi g the virus, so the spike in a week or so should be notable.
Will it spike because of no masks or will it spike because there are more people moving around because they don't have to wear a mask?

and people r still wearing them in shopping centres & the like. sensibly they know the virus is far from beaten yet.

Because they are leaners and need to get vaccinated. I don’t need to be fair to them they are leaning parasites.

Edit why did you stop crying for your precious religious freedumb bill?

Dan’s offer to simplify the planning system, in return for developers making significant monetary contributions, is ridiculous. They should making those efficiency related changes regardless.

Do you really want to engage me on this?

We can do the freedumb bill in the appropriate thread, that’s fair.
You are of course free to advocate for unvaccinated leaners. Just don’t expect me or many other to give a shit. We leave that up to government decision. If government changes its mind on this it does.

But I hated antivaxxers before covid made it cool. Wakefield must die. Only way he could redeem himself would be if he killed Putin which obviously won’t occur.

double masking ever since nancy baxter suggested non-N95 masks had little effect on omicron ..... will continue to do it for the foreseeable future to ..... to those who think its an over-reaction - bite me

Just a rort to try & muddy the fact that its a tax. A surcharge deposited in Government bank accounts in an era where the community wants government to pay more & someone else (not them) to fund it.
