Good political timing after those idiots on the other side went to Pells funeral. Andrews might be corrupt and a narcisst but he is way smarter and delivers more than the othe side.

When he does eventually go he will leave a hole in Labor. He's a generational talent that's for sure.
He knows the game better than anyone

Tell that to my company's CEO. They've just mandated a return to the office a minimum of three days a week, no exceptions.

My company a major shipping line worldwide have been doing a stuttered WFH since last year since the all clear was given to go back to the office, we were required in the office 3 days a week - Monday & Friday was not negotiable, 1 other day of your choice, e mail came out Friday that this ends on the 28th Feb, and everyone required back in the office 1st of March, this is due to people abusing the system, quite a few people had been caught out not at home when they should have been working. It does not affect me at all, as i have been in the office every day, as i prefer to split the two places, and i dare say a lot of companies would have been seeing the WFH being abused.

take note of what the epidemiologists and infectious disease specialists suggest. here's one - prof crabb

  • vaccines and the need to be fully vaccinated,
  • continuing to test and isolate if positive,
  • a focus on clean air and better ventilation, and
  • the ongoing use of masks

Of all of them, the only one that is a realistic option is to keep pushing the vaccines.

After 3 years into this i have finally racked up a Covid positive, went all through the USA last November with nothing, spent last weekend in Warrnambool, went to a major motorsport event outdoors, and felt ill Monday, did the old RAT and was instant positive, had two days of body aches, runny snotbox ( nose ) and the slightest tickle in throat, followed the 5 day iso program, just did my 5 day RAT and it is negative, for me shows how good the vaccines are, and how effective they are.

My wife ain't that happy though she has tested positive today, at least she can't say i don't give her anything :)

I get that some people have abused it. I work in IT, it's pretty clear if we aren't doing our jobs, which we have been. The rationale given hasn't been that people haven't been productive, rather that senior management "prefer" interactions to be face to face.

They can get ****ed.

I wonder what the schools did with all their ventilators (those that got them anyway).....sell them off and fund the staff Christmas parties?

The HEPA filters?

Probably still have them.

Public buildings and offices have been a key target in Germany and Japan, where upgrading air filtration units in air conditioning alone makes a large difference.

Retrofitting hospitals to meet certain infection control standards and rearranging wards, shared treatment seating arrangements etc. is another big fix, but it's probably difficult given how badly demand for care is outstripping capacity.

The federal government stepping in with the private sector and overseeing a raft of upgrades and renovations in the aged care sector would definitely help, because businesses absolutely cannot be trusted to manage the funds themselves.

Poor old cookers, to them Dan is like a turd they can’t flush.

It seems the combined resources of murdochracy failed
The media and rightwing money was so successful in astroturfing and creating the Tea Party, they've clearly believed the formula can be replicated elsewhere ad infinitum.

Turns out that even with a massive bankroll, and a very loud, psychotic minority, there are still intangibles that need to be in place for a soecific cultural and political moment to be realised.

For example the Tea Party had the post GFC fallout, racist counter-reaction to Obama and his failure to also deliver any measure of "hope" or "change" and complete unwillingness to broaden the Democratic base, as a perfect storm of coincidencing factors.

Sadly for the rest of us in the present dealing with the Cooker iteration of that formula sans similar circumstances, the radicalising and organising of an extreme and delusional contingent (convinced of its popular support), is just going to manifest in violence and harm to the greater public as the cookers collide with the consequences of not being as in step with the Australian public as their media backers or social media platform would have it seem.

It disappointed me that in all the covid enquires, the contribution of casualised workforce wasn’t really highlighted

Casual workforce is mainly in jobs where there’s lots of public interaction too
It's been a focus in the public health domain.

SES, workplace conditions, mobility etc. are always some of the first confounding or modifying factors considered.

The political and media discourse obviously doesn't always reflect reality. Andrews to his credit has spoken on sick leave and casualisation. Clearly not a popular topic though for moneyed owners of media conglomerates.

He’s a million times smarter.
And you can't deny that he actually tries to deliver policies of material import to the public.

You can hate the man, but don't let the blinkers blind you to why he keeps getting reelected.

Otherwise you'll end up like the clueless cranks, jabbering on about "Stockholm syndrome" and you are way smarter than that. Forget politics, the culture wars, the media, Dan's alleged personality, the opposition ineptitude etc. What ultimately matters is peoples material wellbeing.

The Coalition succeeded at the federal level, due yes a little bit to scare campaigns, media backing and cruelty that appealed to the base, but the real reason was upper middle class welfare and giveaways aimed at moneyed boomers, who represented the largest voting bloc in the electorate.

The electorate changed and their support declined.

The fact Andrews is decisive and actually builds public infrastructure or tries to improve social services is ultimately why his appeal has remained strong.

And the Victorian economy resumed a healthy rate of growth, the population is again increasing, and so on after people being told the city or state had been "destroyed", so that adds credibility to his no nonsense persona and messaging.

100%, I always joked when I was younger that Auslan was my first language but I’ve never learnt it and not sure where I could have. Nowadays it is much more easier to find courses, but there are people on the Facebook post that say their kids school is including it in the curriculum now, long overdue.

Does anyone know how much these Free TAFE actually cover? I’ve looked into some courses and under government supported they still have a $ amount to pay which is about half what it was before Free TAFE, so does it actually cover all fees?
It covers all tuition fees, but resource fees (materials you use on campus as part of the course) are still quoted, which is frustrating to people who see 'free' and understandably think they won't have to pay anything.

But, I suppose it gets people interested in tertiary study who wouldn't normally even consider it.

My kids said they're still using them and still leaving the windows open in class too

We can go on about this forever. I just prefer to not choose to read those experts who continuously tweet and drive fear. They have zero ability to show a balanced view.

Plenty of countries seem to be moving on. The UK are completely revamping their vaccination program to focus on over 50s and the immunosuppressed. I believe 16-49 year olds have until Feb 12 for their booster until it’s closed off. Funnily enough my views seem to be closer in line with our health ministers, whom we kept getting told to listen to during the worst stages of the pandemic.

Anywho- that’s where I’ll leave it.
you didn't need 2 add anything 2 the bolded my dishlicker m8;)

If Epidemiologists are no longer qualified to comment, then boy are we in strife.

Thank you for confirming my initial post in that there are conservative experts, and some not so and that people pick and choose who they want to listen to, depending where they sit with covid (me included).
