We need to employ a BJJ coach to improve our tacking. Honestly, how many pharking times does Martin get away with that bloody normally high fend off. Just grab his arm and pull it towards you and fall back or push away from him and cannon into his chest. Or just Steven segal it and grab his wrist and push his elbow in the opposite direction. Was driving me mad. Like he was running around wth a bloody bayonet..
Martin is a beast when it comes to fend offs. A few players of ours could learn a lot from this tactic but it takes an arrogant ****** to have the audacity to try this move in the first place... No one on our list really strikes me as the type.

Yeah, clear lack of planning there.

We shouldn't have been attempting to tackle Martin the standard way. We should have prepared for it in much the same way as preparing for a player being right sided or left sided. His strong arm shouldn't be difficult to countenance against for folks who are prepared.

I long ago came to the conclusion that wild rabid abuse of our own players / coaches / administrators by our own supporters is part of Collingwood's DNA. It's existed in an our own supporter base for at least as long as I've been following Collingwood. I don't think I have ever been to a live game and not seen it - and have even seen it in plenty of pub games.

One particular bloke who comes to mind seemed to treat the footy as a release for all that was wrong in his world. He made things mightily unpleasant for everybody around him. Including kids. I toyed with the idea of offering him to pay for proper psychological counselling if he just chilled TF out and enjoyed the footy like the rest of us. The bizarre thing about him was that during the breaks and at the end of the game he was just an everyday Joe. Wouldn't surprise me if he was completely oblivious to his own Jeckyll and Hyde behaviour.

We see aspects of it here on BigFooty too.

I've also been curious to see how the club handle this aspect of our 'culture'. I reckon they really struggle with it and have even put up a bit of a glass wall to protect themselves from it. I don't believe that's the correct response - they could do a better job of handling it.
All types.
The dawn of social media gives voice to the extreme as well.
On BigFooty we get versions of it too.
That's just how it goes

Expecting to see a GRUNDY NEVER AGAIN THREAD! but disappointed as usual.

Don't be sorry, I know that Grundy is a favourite on here.
I don't mind being one of the odd one out.

He does it to every bloody club.

Marsh!

Trav often goes the fend off but usually gets the opposition player in the throat and gives away a free. He kicked a great goal against Hawthorn last year using a fend off. Also, Swan kicked a goal two years ago on Anzac Day bursting through a pack and palming off Baguley (I think?). Marley and possibly De Goey would be two who may be able to employ the fend off.

I can't believe how meek our tackling is in general and not just against Martin. I would say bring in a wrestling/Rugby tackling coach rather than a BJJ guy though. Take downs are much more relevant to our game than the submission game and we don't want anyone teaching our players chicken wing holds or other illegal stuff.
The only reason Martin is so successful with his fend off is because players are totally upright when they try and tackle him, showing him their full chest.
A slight crouch just before you shoot in for the tackle makes it so much harder to fend off and there is every chance he gets you high, giving away a free.

Bjj teaches you take your opponents down from all most angles. Forget the submissions, knowing how and where to attack/defend your opponent when he coming at you is something bjj teaches. Also teaches you to deflect limbs to go in for the takedown. Something people obviously struggle with when it comes to Martin.

I know a rugby coach would be more fitting for us but I wouldn't discount bjj to be used as a tool to compliment current or future tackling techniques. Ive seen a 4 year old boy take down a grown man simply because he's been shown where and how to position Himeslf to put someone on their arse

Pisses me off how hard some labels/stickers are to get off products!
There is a worse on, things wrapped in clear plastic.
Bought a set of headphones for my footy radio, took me five minutes, a Stanley knife and scissors to get them out.

I'm a supporter of both and as others become mature as ruckmen, I'm trusting the tandem will work well.
Would get us a fantastic advantage.
Up to the both of them ofcourse

Ok folks now that the mercurial thread,
Celebrating all thing Freeman, and nothing relevant to Freeman, has become a MEGA thread

I have nothing left to vent, not no more.
