I've watched both the JLT & intra club match live & we played a different style on Saturday, Intra club game we went through the corridor or middle each time we went forward were on Saturday we played more wings h/f when entering into our forward, my opinion is we will go through the corridor/center more but not expose in JLT so we can keep that part of the game up our sleeve.

Both games we didn't seem to * around with the ball too much, it pretty much left the area as soon as it arrived and gave no time for any defensive structures to set up.

I think you guys will miss Waite, he was still playing very good footy and made sides nervous which left Brown plenty of space. You really need a second marking forward to come on. I like the players you got in the off season. You needed outside run and got three good outside runners.

100%. When Waite played, we generally were a different animal and won a lot more than we lost.

Larkey won the Frosty Miller for the leading goal kicker in the VFL last year and kicked a couple on the weekend, he's still only a kid however.

Wood is extremely hot and cold and Ziebell should of kicked about 10 more than he did last year because of poor conversion.

Quality small forwards are our major issue imo.

All the goals , points and highlights of the game .
Great stuff BT....many thanks for posting the clip....awesome !!!!!!!

The problem always with the AFL site is that they don't show all the goals in their highlights package......very frustrating !!!!!!

2 goals and 2 direct goals from turnovers caused by his tackles...

How much impact are we expecting?
Because his impact was behind the others vying for the same position. I mean how many small forwards/half forwards can we fit in the same side. Now before people start saying well Gresham and billing will spend more time in the midfield, they won't be full time mids. Sure they'll pinch hit but their primary role will be in the forward line like it always has been. Like it was on the weekend where all three spent the majority of their time forward.

So going from the JLT:
Billings 2 goals 1 behind 20 disposals
Kent 2 goals 14 disposals
Gresham we all know the quality there so he's an absolute lock regardless of form.

That's your three spots. Remainder will go to the tall and medium talls. So Membrey Bruce McCartin with Marshall in the mix. Maybe someone who can play multiple roles like acres.

But let's say we will have room for one more. You're now fighting it out between Lonie Long Parker. I don't think it's clear cut. Personally I'd take long in a heart beat. But if not fit it's down to a 50/50 for a spot that probably isn't there!

He can have Sinclair's spot... Fixed.

Even if Stuv and Hanners are unavailable it's going to be incredibly tight for spots. Incredibly tight.

Especially between Newnes, Acres, Sincs, Long, Lonie, Kent, Clark, Dunstan and Parker.

Young should be in that group too, he had a great pressure game in the intra.

See that I could understand if there's a rejig upfield that supports and extra coming in
Having said that Sinclair is in the Gresham bucket. He has runs on the board. I think we need his ball use and tank on the wing.

For mine backline aside:

R Longer/Pierce Ross Steven/Dunstan
C Sinclair Steele Phillips
HF Billings Bruce Kent
F Gresham McCartin Membrey

Too inconsistent for me.

Hard to mount an argument against that view. Incredibly important he had a good game against the dogs
I think it will come down how much the game plan is restructured.

We don't have a real insight into the degree of change and are going off last year.

This week should reveal more.

I truly hope that everyone starts with equal opportunity and is selected on merit.

Agreed but he is being asked to play in un-natural positions. His best performances were when he played as a centre and he used his evasion and skills thru the midfield. I believe he lost his spot there because of his lack of effort going the other way. Which again was Richo being too concerned with what the kids can't do than what they can. For me he a natural centreman and unless Richo plays him there, he might as well go back to Sandringham and ply his trade thru the middle there.

If I was his manager I would be seriously scoping other clubs in need of a genuine centreman at seasons end. Because I don't think he will reach his potential under Richo.

I think you are comparing apples to oranges. None of the guys who's stats you showed are pressure forwards.

I expect Billings to play predominantly as a wing man that pushes forward on occasions. I also expect Kent to spend a fair bit of time up the ground as he was told he would when he was recruited. I don't see him as just a specialist small forward that's for sure. I noticed you have Phillips in your side. I don't think he has a lot of hurt factor and I'd much prefer to see Billings/Gresham/Kent running around the wings and also expect to see Long spend a bit of time there.

We have spent a lot of the off season recruiting for more speed for a reason, only adding Kent to the side from last year won't make a huge difference imo.

I hope we don't go that way. Seems too similar to how we looked last year and still lacks pace and forward pressure which was a massive weakness.

C Billings - Steele - Kent
HF Gresham - McCartin - Parker
FF Membrey - Bruce - Lonie

Ruck- Pierce - Ross - Steven

Long on the pine to rotate forward

Sinclair to rotate through the wings

i dont think billings will ever be effective on the wing unfortunately. we tried it in previous seasons and gave up after killing his confidence. kent played forward on the weekend.

Billings played much better last year when we brought him back into the side and played him up the ground? He played mostly on the wing on the weekend and was able to push forward to kick a couple of goals. That's his best role IMO and judging by the weekends game that is what they have planned for him.

No way does Phillips play if the weekend is anything to go by. Newnes going back to the wing will have killed off any chance he had and Billings likely to play there more doesn't help either. Long has also apparently been rotating through there and I still think it's Acres best position until I see otherwise in the middle.

Also against him is his lack of flexibility. At least Sincs can also play forward, but he may not make the final cut either, unless he really pulls his finger out.

So if this weeks game is to be a dress rehearsal for our Rd 1 team, who comes in and who goes out?

For mine i'm thinking Marshall will come in for an injured Pearce. If longy is good to go he has to come in
As does Acres and i would include Coffield also, so who comes out for them?
At a quick glance, the unlucky three would be Phillips, Sinclair and either Paton or Wilkes who both would be very stiff!
But plenty of time for both lads to get their chance throughout the season!

Oh and i also forgot that Richo pretty much declared that Brown would prob miss seeing he is suspended for Rd 1
So prob Austin for him! White and Rice have a bit of work to do!

OK...

If his best spot is in the middle, who cones out and who rotates thru?

Everyone complaining about players in wrong positions but they can't play elsewhere.

And since when is it OK for a player to not have to do what is required by them?

I value your input, but does everything have to come back to being Richos fault?

I'd give him Dunstan's spot, but is he any good as a clearance player?

You would give Molly Meldrum Dunstan's spot!
Now i know Molly has been known to win contested posessions! But would he be be
Sufficiently strong in the contest to satisfy Richo?
Just saying! ;)

Let's look at the TEAM- if you haven't got a good team you don't win (unless the other team is total carp). We want consistent performances for across the field- from most experienced to least experienced. Look at all the top teams- everyone is contributing with few if any passengers. I was encouraged by the JLT game- I saw a bit of passion and hunger..totally missing this time last season.

Let’s pretend all our players are available. Can you explain how acres can possibly be a full time mid. Can you give me your mids and approximately what percentage mid and where else they will play. Mine is Steven ross and Steele playing 60% mid and 20% elsewhere. Steven forward Ross Hb and Steele around the wing. Then gresh 40% mid and 40 forward. Hanners 30% mid and 50% wing. That leaves only 50% for all others playing going through the mid. So acres under my rotations gets about 10 to 15% max because there is Clark and others to go through there. Probably also explains why I’m not playing dunstan
