Was listening to MMM after the Hawks/Dons game and they were talking about if you had these 2 as out of contract players at the end of the season which one would you go after.

Now I am not putting Buddy on the same level as Judd but what I am asking is if your club was after one young under 24 year old that will give them 8-10 years of match winning footy which one would you prefer they went after.

Judd: Great midfielder, quality leader, ball winner, match winner consistently good occasionally great.

Buddy: Tall athletic KP/HFF who can play up the ground, takes marks, wins ground level ball, game breaker, but not as consistently good as Judd.

Until Buddy Franklin performs like that against a team who didn't finish in the bottom four the previous season, I'm saying Judd.

Buddy is impressive, but there's every possibility that he's a flat-track bully at the moment.

If he kicks 9 against West Coast, Adelaide or Sydney, then I'll be impressed.

Buddy. We need KPP more than midfielders and Judd at $1 mil + would be too much of an investment into one player.

Judd is still the standout player no doubting that, just for Hawthorn at the moment, we need Buddy more.

Round 5 board

Judd, at the moment, but Franklin in a few years time will be dominating.
It's funny, because Hawks couldv'e had Franklin and Judd, 2 of the best in the game!

That's absurd.
Is it?

Look at his goal stats, team-by-team.

In terms of goals per game has performed best against (leaving out Adelaide, as it's only one game to go on) Richmond, Essendon and Carlton, and worst against West Coast, Sydney and Fremantle.

Now, I'm not saying he isn't a gun prospect, but we're talking about comparing him to Chris Judd here

Fair enough, but i'll quote your comment,

To the current period, Buddy has done that, with impressive performances against the Bulldogs last week.

Again, fair enough - but i'll say this much for Buddy. He's been forced to endure a couple of years in a team that frankly 'wasn't much chop'. It's the age old question when someone asks, "Would Judd be as good if he played for the wooden spooners". As a forward, it's a matter of delivery into the forward line and occasionally making something out of nothing.

As a 20 year old KPP, he's shown enough at this stage to suggest he'll be a very, very good player in the long-run and not a 'flat-track bully' as you put it (albeit off-handedly).

Now, I'm not saying he isn't a gun prospect, but we're talking about comparing him to Chris Judd here

Yep, it's an absurd comparison which shouldn't be asked anyway in the first palce.

I'm sure both teams would love to have the opposite respective player for their club, but the fact of the matter is that both players have become favourites for the fans and with the brown and gold tinted glasses firmly on i'll say i'd prefer Buddy.

WTF Judd is always outstanding, always brilliant, and occasionally moments of being god.

Not just "good"!!

Correct.

Franklin is going to be a gun, but we have to remember he has played about 9 good games.

I think we need to close this thread, but reopen it when Buddy has won a Brownlow, MVP, Norm Smith and a Premiership medal.

At the moment, probaly Judd as Buddy still as a bit to "prove" being young. Having said that he's kicked 6 goals 6 times in 40 games. It's possible I could easily change in 2 years if Buddy kept that going. I'd take a highly mobile, tall, athletic player that kicks goals anytime over a midfielder, even a superstar such as Judd. They're so much more valuable.

Buddy. If he can keep the form up and improve in the next few years, he has the potential to be a great of the game. Not only that, it's easier to find players that have Judd's characteristics. The fact that Lance is nearly two metres tall makes him extra freaky. I doubt that the game has seen anyone like him.

Judd >>>Buddy >>>>>> Hawkins >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Richmonds list .

Idiot. I was only answering the question. Without a doubt Lance Franklin is a great player but no where near Judd. Hawkins will also be a lot better.
