Geelong with King: 0-3
Geelong without King: 3-0 (All very impressive)

Untill his body is up and running at atleast 90% and he catches up with the way the game is played (i.e tapping the ball to advantage not straight down) leave his sorry broken down a$$ in the VFL.

I have all respect for Kingy, his a great guy and once a great ruckman but his is costing by on merrit and how he used to play, and he still can reach near his peak again if he puts in the hard work but untill then keep Otto and Blake in the ruck, for some reason it has made our team that much more dangerous and impressive..

Opinions?

I have to agree mate, I love the guy, but on performance both Blake and otto are ahead of him. I really hope he can start to dominate the ressie, but until that he he should stay in the twos.

King didn't play in round 1 when we lost against the Bulldogs but he wouldn't have helped anyway, in fact we probably would have lost by more.

I still have hope that King can be an asset to the side but that is looking extremely unlikely at this stage of his career. I get the feeling that the only way King will come back in is because of injury to Blake and/or Ottens.

We sort of said this in the Rooke thread also, we need to keep our semi-injured guys out of the lineup. We need to go with guys who are 100% or thereabouts, not guys like King and Rooke who are only 60%.

Rooke is a great player, but if he isn't up to it and hasn't any fitness we cannot just throw him in the lineup. Same goes for King, I just hope that Bomber and the selection panel have learned their lesson on King and realise he just isn't ready, both physically and mentally.

Once he gets over the mental issue of being injured, he may be ok again.

i would leave him out for the whole year IMO. if blake can keep playing the way he is i dont think u need him. saw some highlights of blakes tap work from sunday and it was brilliant.

I'd definitely have Blake ahead of King atm, but we'll still need King to play in some circumstances. Ottens doesn't have the most relaible body, and if he's out, King is a better option than playing West or Playfair, or being forced to put Mooney in the ruck. Also, when Hawkins is eventually rested, Ottens will need to spend more time up forward. This might mean King has to share ruck duties with Blake unless we're prepared to go with only two talls in our forward line, or rest Blake up forward when Ottens is in ruck.

On form, and to me was obvious even in 2005 when Otto first came to the Catters, that he was a better ruckman than King. Otten's hitouts to advantage this season are very good, ie last week against the Tiges it was something like 8 of his 17. King by the same token has had 28 hitouts in two games, with just a measly three to advantage.

Having a good ruckman helps the first cardinal rule of footy. Gives us the chance to get it first, and therefore prevents the opposition from getting the clearances. Against a side like the Eagles, this is essential. So at the moment it has to be a no-brainer, Otto and Blake in the ruck.

Personally i think the sheer act of kicking 35 goals also could be the catalyst for maybe a 1989 or 1992 style awakening, something that tells the players and coaching staff that Geelong has the ability to play an attacking brand of footy.

Just think, if they kick 16 or so against Adelaide, or the Eagles etc, they will be hard pressed to kick that themselves. It might be time to try out this brand of footy, as Geelong is better at that, than they are playing a close-checking Adelaide/Sydney style. Clubs should try to play the game plan that suits their personnel best.

King's VFL game was actually a pleasant change from the King of the past few years (god forbid, he actually covered ground decently, pushed up forward, went for and held onto contested marks, and showed the trademark tidy skills - of course, all at VFL level...).

If (and that in itself is a pretty big if) he continues down that path, then I won't have too many qualms with his inclusion based on the merit of form. Until then though, the brownie points he seemingly has racked up by being a former skipper, a former B&F'er, a former All-Australian etc. shouldn't be brought up again and utilised. Ever.
