List is from the contract's thread, my thoughts next to individual player

If we want to get into the 2024 draft's top 20 picks we have to trade away a player or two. Given we have traded away our
  • 2023 Future Rd 1 pick in 2022 for JHF trade
  • 2024 Future Rd 1 pick in 2023 with Freo for pick swaps

I assume the AFL wont let us trade away our 2025 first pick if we ask them for permission to allow us given their 2 in 4 years rule.

4 years for Jones and Mead? They have not shown enough to justify that unless they were on close to league minimum which they would obviously reject.

Jones and Mead on four year deals would be exactly the sort of deal we criticise the club for in 2-3 years' time. A few posters on here who obviously don't learn their lessons.

I think we are due for some free agents, and you probs have to be willing to pay up some decent coin that always feels like overs. Perryman and Stengel would be great gets. You’d just blow some cash on these two. Sounds like Hayward will just use us to raise his $$, even though we are probs a decent fit for him.

There is no way we release Ollie to Norf, unless it’s a stupid godfather type offer of picks. North and Clarko will probs get more handouts. Ollie is pretty important though to us and could be the difference come September over the next few years.

You’d want to have either a decent player lined up to recruit with his bounty - yes to any of Bolton, Wanganeen-Milera, Pickett, Phillipou, Lukosius types, or early enough picks to minimize risk in the draft for a player that could play round 1.

The only appealing thing about Perryman is that he is a free agent. He is otherwise a bland, boring player who doesn't move the needle at all.

Ideal replacement for Boak and we will get a good solid 100 games.

He's put his hand up in big games.

We don't have to spend a fortune in his development GWS have done that so he sort of justifies the dumb price we are going to pay.

Perryman is a very good get.

Meads interesting.

I've always thought it's in his best interests to get away from Port. He'd get a better run elsewhere.

I don't think Port will offer him more than a couple of years and he could get better elsewhere. Could easily see someone like the Swans seeing value or filling a need at North.

You think Jackson Mead is gonna get more opportunity at the club that currently has Luke Parker running around in the twos?

I don’t think Luke Parker will be at the Swans next year.

At 31 and 283 games, North should target him. Although, he is a little on injury prone side, but North’s could get a couple of seasons and solid on-field leadership out of him.

I don’t see Luke Parker being there next year.

Also add I don’t think the VFL games are high standard. Mead isn’t doing 75 metre torps but he would take those games apart as well.

Isn't Burgoyne the Boak replacement?

I'd be surprised if K Marshall gets another contract. Hasn't shown much at all.

Boak Retire
McKenzie Retire
Narkle Delist
Evans Delist
Marshall Delist
Dixon Delist or 1 more year

Everyone else should be getting 1 or 2 year contracts at max.

Kyle Marshall was a pick 59 in 2022 draft. He was always going to be a long term project player ie 3-4 years.
Young KPDs need time to develop, its only his 2nd year.
Agree he's output hasn't been great so far but he's coming back from a back injury.
He has the AFL attributes to become a solid defender just needs time to develop into the role and be injury free.
Along with the putting on some weight.

We need list spots. We can't afford to give every speculative prospect 5 years on the list to get fit and show something.

Realistically we probably need to open up 5 primary list spots this year and that means some guys will unfortunately be cut. Marshall is near the top of that list.

Kyle Marshall was one of few who could hold his head up after the North debacle. Looked better as a defender, put body on body and used his pace to break away from defence.

Have to put a couple more years into him to see what he can do. He's 200cm and can run like the wind, you can't just scrap these tall gangly kids straight away.

I suspect McCallum would be much higher up on the players who could get cut list than K. Marshall.
