All the new Minnesota results seem to be going Coleman's way. :( He leads 43-41 with 63% in.

Oregon close too. Merkley 48-47 with 40% in.

Chambliss well ahead of Martin in Georgia. But he needs to clear 50% to avoid a run-off. He currently leads 52-44 with 95% in. I suspect he's home. That means the GOP has 41 Senate seats. Minimum.

Democratic Governor of Washington Christine Gregoire has been re-elected.

Oregon and Minnesota Senate races still close. But I think MN is slipping away.

I note Obama's margin in Minnesota is "only" 53-46. So perhaps there are still some more Dem-leaning precincts to come in?

I'll cling to that.

Nothing reported for Alaska yet.

A special Shout Out (Wink) to Karl Rove: "Stick the hubris of the permanent Republican Majority up your lilly white fat arse"

Minnesota has tightened again. Coleman holds a narrow lead with 84% in.

Oregon is even closer. Merkley holds a very slender lead with 42% in.

In Alaska, Stevens is leading 49-46 with 37% in. But surely he couldn't win?

Stevens will win. It reminds me of the way the old BLS loved Normie Gallagher even after they found out that he had a holiday house build by materials given to him by the bosses - they used to say "who gives a s**t he's still one of us!"

CNN doesn't have any county-by-county breakdown for Alaska!

Begich is mayor of Anchorage. What I want to know is whether the Anchorage vote is part of the current returns.

Coleman (Incumbent) 1,048,956 42%

Merkley 415,170 47%
Smith (Incumbent) 411,738 47%

Tight as.

Thanks... very close.

Looks like the 3rd party candidate is picking up some GOP votes..

Did a quick perusal of county by county breakdown for Minnesota.

There are some Coleman leaning counties still to fully report and some Franken leaning counties still to fully report.

But the largest is Hennepin County - the city of Minnesota - which is only 87% reporting where Franken leads by 51-36 (About 85,000 votes). So assuming the rest of the results come in in the same proportion, that's certainly a well Franken can continue to tap.

I'd rate him the prohibitive favourite. But I don't say that with a lot of confidence.

Is MN a state where there's a Senate runoff if neither candidate reaches 50%? I heard that scenario for different states on CNN over the day and wasn't sure if it was applicable for all states or just some.

Could make things harder for Franken if he had to face a run-off.

No. You're thinking of Georgia. Which I'd actually forgotten about...

Chambliss is now down to 50% (to Martin's 46%) with 98% in.

Very interesting indeed.

Franken ahead by a ridiculously small margin with 96% reporting:

Franken: 1,151,156 - 42%
Coleman: 1,150,091 - 42%
Barkley: 416,339 - 15%
