How many BBL seasons have been played?

Eventually, I might work out which team is what. Maybe.

All the feels for this. I mean, Perth Scorchers - yeah, fair enough, it can be bloody hot in WA. Brisbane Heat - yeah, ditto Queensland and it is better than the equally valid Brisbane Humidity. Hobart Hurricanes - yeah, those Forties do Roar. But the Melbourne, Adelaide and Sydney team names? Generic as hell and essentially interchangeable.

My daughter will be torn when she continues her doctoral studies at Uni of Melbourne as she loves a latte and definitely considers herself artsy. Mind you, she hates cricket so 😉

A path I’ve trod, but a country boy who loves cricket.
My best advice is to be curious about all things, and a person for all seasons.

I hear people complaining BBL games go for too long. Here's an idea. Get the two captains together at the bat flip. Ask the captain who wins the flip, "Do you want to win the game, or lose it?" Game over.

Results this year when the team wins the flip and bowls first: Won 21 / Lost 10
Results this year when the team wins the flip and bats first: Won 0 / Lost 1

Is that for real?

Yep. Well, I'm a person anyway.

Last night's game started at 7.15 and ended at nearly 10.45. I guess the rain had something to do with it, but had it gone the full 40 overs, and take out 10 minutes for the change over, that's 200 minutes for 40 overs = 5 mins per over. An ODI allows 210 mins to bowl 50 overs, and a slow day of Test cricket has 80 overs in 360 minutes.

So the quickest, most dynamic, blink-and-you'll-miss-it format is actually the tardiest. There are too many moments where you just want them to get on with it. Last night I took the dog out to the street so it could do its business before bed time, I was down there for about 5 minutes and in that time 4 balls were bowled. Get on with it!!!

But also, back to my original point, the toss has far too much influence in the outcome. Only once has a team decided to bat - they lost. The rest of the time you give yourself better than a 2/3 chance of winning just by winning the toss and bowling.

Great idea. And they could actually do the toss as they work on preparation of the fixture so that the whole season is over within a few hours.

Maybe they could use two coins and some sort of wooden paddle, and punters could bet on it?

The 100 is for those people who are so ADHD that BBL feels too long for them. (not including you in this)

Fair enough as well. Hopefully the 2027 centenary test at the MCG will be a red ball game

Please - the ECB are happy to transform the sport on their terms if they see a commercial benefit (i.e. the Hundred) and have attempted to 'save the Test format' via its shit entertainment/bazball strategy (getting exactly what it deserved); so that means Cricket Australia should forgo additional revenue (via day/night Test), because the ECB don't like the overseas conditions? That's not how International cricket operates.

The ECB clearly recognises the sport and format are both being challenged, so all Test playing nations need to find a way to be commercial. It's in Australia's best interests to play day/night Test matches regardless of a W/L. It's embarrassingly hypocrtical for the ECB to demand CA to not play a pink ball Test in an Australian summer just because they're shit at it

I'm not referring to the amount of balls bowled in the game, I'm talking about length of time to complete the game. Three and a half hours to play 40 overs is too slow and ending around 10.45 is too late.

Be fair. If they can mine a bit more West Indian talent and get them all firing before the next Oz series they might soften their stance.

Maybe tonight is the night Fraser McDud will play that blinder of an innings he keeps promising and generate an unlikely win.
Welp, the loss certainly won't be his fault this time I guess.

There are no other countries that are interested or want to play the pink ball test that is obvious, infact most Australians dont want to play it. Its only the commercial TV stations that are pushing for it just like them wanting to play a night grand final in the AFL. Some things are best left alone. The sooner its done away with the better it will be for test cricket in my opinion. As for the 100 that can be done away with as well for all I care but no one really cares about the 100. Test cricket has a long history and should not be messed with just to please the TV networks .
