Autopsy NMFC vs WBD

We have bottom four skills and the balance of the side looks wrong, but have plenty of ticker. We're up for the fight and approach the game the right way. Despite our short comings we think we can take it up to anyone. There's not much polish, but a good amount of grunt. Hopefully some wins come before this gets knocked out of us. Once we win one, I think we'll win a few. Shattered by this loss tonight, but respecting the ride so far

A load of 2013 about where we are now. Early close loses.

My ignore list has tripled tonight, which is a shame. I'm likely to miss a few good posts here and there as a result but I'm SO sick of the mindless vitriol.

Hello. Hello. Am I on ignore. Hello.

Garner had a really promising game. While he wasn't that effective and probably would have had an overall negative impact if it wasn't for his goal, I thought he put himself in really good positions and showed a glimpse of ball-winning ability that had previously alluded him. Had a crack at about four or five bombs into the forward 50 and was impressively able to get his hands on them, if those ever start sticking then we've got ourselves a real ****ing player.

It looks like Turner, Garner and Simpkin will rightly be picked every single week if fit, so it's great that one of them has the capability to move up the ground and get 20+ touches. Would love Turner to get his first 20+ touch game soon, but you can't really fault his performances so far. Just keeps kicking goals and gives you confidence whenever he has the ball in hand.

Hrovat keeps improving. Was really worried about him at first, but he has gotten better every week. While he still needs to tidy up his disposal, you can see something that's worth persisting with. The fact that he has gotten better every week makes it easier to give him the benefit of the doubt and assume that his errors come from inexperience and unfamiliarity, rather than an inherent lack of footballing ability.

Simpkin has a lot to work on, but at the very least the prospect of seeing him improve every week is enough for me to get excited about every game of our aggressive reset™. If some absolute goober didn't have his microscope out, he would've kicked goal of the year and caused the foundations of Etihad to crumble.

Ben Cunnington is a monster now. His 23 handballs tonight were the most he has ever had in a game. Lock him in for the Syd.

Don't forget on this Good Friday that we have our own saviour being resurrected on Easter Sunday. Can't wait to see Mason Wood tear up Domain Stadium next week.

We're not that far off really... Kelly in makes a massive difference and makes a lot of space for everyone else. Ahern we don't really know what to expect but if he delivers on his early promise that shakes things a lot. Waite will be gone soon though and he is miles ahead as our most dangerous tall forward. Need Wood to keep on the park and we need to play Daw either way. No team will win a premiership with Goldy / Preuss combo resting forward IMO. (I type that in the full knowledge that now we'll somehow go on an unbeaten run for the rest of the year and Goldy / Preuss will kick 9 between them...) I'll cope with getting it so horribly wrong.

As much as I like Brown, he doesn't strike me as a power forward type you can rely on to win a flag, he will be the Longmire type of accumulator who goes out on a lead and will kick enough goals if you can stick it out in front of him enough times. His weakness is his pack marking and when the heat turns up and there is no space to lead whatcha gunna do? That is where Waite is unpredictable, he can leap and take a grab and doesn't require a lot of room.

While I think Ben will be important going forward, we would want to hope McKay doesn't take 5+ years to make it to AFL standard. If we are going to chase Kelly and free agents then we should be moving heaven and earth to get McKay up to speed in the short-term but it is a balancing act between too much early exposure and not enough.

I don't mind the Preuss/Goldy thing tbh, I think they are on the ground too much but that is probably due to not havign Waite or Wood out there. I see Preuss and Goldy as being #1 ruckmen, I don't think we can realistically play them both in the one team when we intend to contend, but at the moment it is fine, it gets Preuss much needed experience and it takes pressure off of Goldstein to carry too much of a load and means we don't have to put Brown in the ruck. Daw's inability to stay on the park is the biggest problem with looking at an alternative setup.

I do think that we need to have a main ruck and a utility ruck on the pine rather than rely on key forwards to ruck. That being said, we need to be more efficient in terms of what we get out of our midfield unit. Cunnington was awesome and had 33 disposals, but only played 71% ToG. Ziebell played 78%. Swallow 73%. Hrovat 73%. Simpkin 74%. We probably are carrying 1 or 2 extra runners than we should realistically need and it means we don't have our core mids on the park as much. How much influence did we lose having Cunnington there for 71% instead of 87% like Bonts? Game went for 122 minutes, that 16% difference is almost 20 minutes difference. That has a massive impact on the game. We need to be a lot better at getting the most out of what we have.

Our 8th position last year is still biting us on the arseh*le with this draw.

Winning 9 in a row sucks.

We actually have the easiest draw in the AFL, only four more games against teams that made finals last year.

EDIT: Two of those are against Hawthorn and Sydney, which are looking a lot more winnable.

Piss off you boring, tired, ****posting pessimists. It was a sensational game between the reigning premiers and a team not expected to win 10 games. We took it up to them and showed that we are capable of truly awesome footy. Yeah our skill level was shocking, but seeing Ziebell and Higgins flying through massive packs at the footy, I don't think I've seen us play with more heart than we did this afternoon. If certain posters plan on only taking the negatives out of every single game we play through this reset and posting incessantly about the same old ***, I for one will simply stop contributing and reading this board. Get a ****ing grip.
Yea I agree, reading the posts I wasn't sure I'd watched the same game ? I don't get the criticism of McMillan and Zeibel they were in the bests.
**** thomo two goals directly from his mistakes .
Goldy put in a good effort, hrovat accumulated, cunners was brilliant, Turner did good and Sympkin makes me proud.
Tarrant was consistent and dependable. Higgins and Brown did their jobs well and earnt they pay packets.
Garner got involved and people forget how many games he did not play last year.
Gibson was unnoticeable so means he had a good game.
Marley was dependable .
Aside from the last quarter accumulation of possessions swallow surely would have been dropped. Again was the weak link in our transition chain and what should have been a coast to coast goal, botched it , turnover goal to the doggies.
Unsurprisingly swallow had 11 tackles which means he's a lock.

You have to admire the pressure and intent irrespective of the skills .

Let's not mention Thomas, a game we should forget

Felt like he was getting his breath back when they came at us in the 3rd. Saving him for the last quarter push.
Was BOG by far.
He really is our barometer.
Thats what I thought to, but Mr NDS seemed to think Dahlhouse was BOG. Good gawd.

The team gave their all today. Fabulous.

Monster game from Cunnington; this is the standard we need every week. A much better game from Goldstein as well. Even Thompson did some good things.

But our skills, even when under no pressure, are appalling. We're hopefully not be a bottom four team, but are skills are those of a bottom four team. I struggle to understand how our skills have failed to improve over the last seven or so years, when the players are full-time professionals,

Can anyone tell me what percentage of centre bounces had Swallow, Cunnington and Ziebell within the square?

And as well as Preuss played, I still feel that Daw is a better option for team balance. He needs to perform for Werribee to keep the pressure on the match committee.

Intense.

Angry OF had to make an appearance.

Yeah we lost, lots of positives blah blah blah.

We'll retain the fixture.

Sure there's a load of people call for outs and what not, belittling the effort.

There's something in our team, I can't put my finger on it but whatever it is we have it. We're not there yet.

We're gonna kick the shit outta some sides this year.
There is something in our team, his name is Jy Simpkin.

the only thing I like about watching the squealers is knowing that Murphy doesn't have a medal.

And that overrated stringer. He flys for screamers everytime.... has he ever actually got near it. Such a poser

Its been a resemble 4 weeks despite not getting any points. Experienced sides are cashing in on a tired team in late in games.

That'll get better in time.

The problem is is that we are currently playing an experience side. The players who played on the weekend shouldn't be getting tired against a more youthful dogs outfit.

Up until half time it sounded like I had rocked up to the local library was dead quite! Second half atmosphere was electric !

I must say, as much as I dislike Stringer as a player, he did go to every kid in their guard of honour to give them a hi 5. Narrowly avoided being taken out by the cheersquad lowering the banner because of it.

15 deep doesn't touch the ball play on. Horse shit

Thought that we were good. Sure, our skill mistakes were really annoying and probably cost us in the end. As Matthews says, the team that makes the least mistakes wins, but mistakes will always be made. It would be nice to have a 15.5 game for once, when everyone kicks the tricky goals that are 50/50. Garner, Higgins, BBB all missed gettable shots, and yet we nearly snatched it back at the end.

Thomas had a game to forget in his 200th. Best for me was Cunnington, Mullet (for his run and kicking), BBB, Thompson and Taz in defence, Goldy in ruck, and thought Hrovat and Williams were pretty solid too.

We had one great passage of play in the third quarter, handballs done the field until Swallow handballed his into the back of the running player. We should win next week if we can play with the same effort again, and execute a little better.

Hello. Hello. Am I on ignore. Hello.

Not at all Gaso. You can sleep soundly tonight in that knowledge. It's those posters endlessly potting the coach and selected players who I've finally had enough of.

You are very much removed from the dog house, no pun intended.
