Happy New Year to all Eagles supporters..can't wait to see our beloved boys hit the park in 2016 and go just one step better.

So anyway, didn't really rate the new Star Wars movie...

That coming from someone who's undoubtedly obsessed, not just a fan.
I liked it, and I wouldn't even classify as a fan, just a casual observer.

Possibly making your expectations lower than DS's, resulting in a better overall perception of the film. I tend to have low expectations of most movies so I can enjoy them for what they are.

Edit: Bring on the season already. Big Bash is okay and all but, movies? Subway in the TTHD thread? I think when we start discussing the weather on here we're all gonna need to be kicked off, for our own sake!

I will fite u.

Bit disappointed Kylo Ren never turned out to be Jar Jar Binks :(

Really, i think if you're not a huge fan of the series you'd really enjoy it. But for me, i couldn't help but wince whilst i watched, was pretty painful.

People's expectations are ridiculous. The original Stars Wars had zero expectations and became a cult type movie. Time & nostalgia always make it seem bigger and better tan anything. Then whenever a new one is released it gets panned or isn't up to scratch...... Bizarre. I enjoyed it, how could you not. People need to Netflix and chill, seriously.

I like how they make next to no reference to the prequels. Just the OG trilogy.

Also, if you do watch No. 7, I recommend you look up a break down of the starting imagery, it helps make unexplained things such as
the helmet in the desert
make sense.

And where would one find this?

What were you expecting?

Because as a massive fan, the film was exactly what I wanted, a return to what made the original trilogy great.

I'm more concerned about some absurd acting, gaping plot holes/inconsistencies and constant political correctness being thrown in my face. I could provide examples obviously, but i'm not going to wreck it for anyone who hasn't seen it.

If the target audience was for 6-12yr olds i think you'd have a pretty good film on your hands, but that's none of my business.

*coughs* Original films were kids films *coughs*

Each to their own though.

I'm assuming that by 'constant political correctness' you are referring to the choice of protagonists? How do you feel about Ripley in Alien?

Not really a spoiler because I'm assuming everyone who wants to see it has seen trailers, posters etc.

Not really the only example. The three main protagonists are a female ('apparently' the most powerful being in the universe, hardly anything like Ripley in Alien), a black guy and a mexican. Throw in all the different accents and other nationalities the film crammed in and it's almost like watching a UN summit. Posh British, Scottish, and even the Chinese make an appearance. And i'm sitting here like "What the eff is going on?"

Diversification is all well and good, but not when it's so obviously done to appease the masses.

It had no real impact on the plot, who gives a shit.

It's almost a dead ringer for ANH, yet that movie is praised to ridiculous levels.

Whatever though, TFA will soon overtake Avatar as the highest grossing film & no one will give two ****s about what anyone thinks.

It's all good.

The general 'plot' is similar to ANH, but this one just goes to ridiculous levels of bullshit which i think ANH, or any other film in the franchise for that matter didn't do. I'd love to see the unedited version of TFA to see just how much they've cut out, and whether it would have changed my opinion.
