Text book tackle? Suspension!
Didn't take size differential into consideration? Suspension!
Something something duty of care? Suspension.

But launch yourself at full speed, tuck arm in and smash into opponents head possibly ending their career? All good. Carry on.

Disagree with that entirely... it's been over-analysed. At the end of the day, Maynard launched forward into the air at a player running in the opposite direction and got him high with severe impact. Doesn't matter if Maynard's bump action was to protect himself, putting himself in that position in the first place showed zero duty of care to Brayshaw and was always likely to get him forcefully high.

Will be barracking even harder against Collingwood now.

Ding ding ding!

It's like Maynard is completely absolved of the decision making that led to leaping in the air at his opponent in a reckless manner.

That's just wrong plain and simple. Any reasonable viewing of the footage can see he clearly jumped to smother and had eyes for the ball.

At the end of the day Maynard launched forward into the air and smothered the ball, and then landed on a player running in the opposite direction and got him high with sever impact

Feel sorry for Brayshaw but right decision was made and I can't fault the logic the tribunal chairman gave.

I take the term to mean playing the ball, rather than the man.

Just for arguments sake - what about shepherding?

I just don't like that it seems to have become a giant umbrella phrase of defence for questionable acts.

The right decision
After analysing the biomechanics, i think Brayshaw could have prevented injury against human cannonball Maynard and come out on top.

Jack Martin only getting one week seems crazy. Was a full on clip across the jaw

Pretty clear indication they're going to be more lenient in finals.

No way those aren't 2-3 weeks in the H&A rounds.

Will be interesting to see if Port wins and one of their players has a similar incident this weekend.

I've got no doubt he was going for the ball. Doesn't change that he launched at a player heading in the opposite direction to get it. It was not an intentional act, but a careless one. By going for the ball in the manner he did he put a fellow player at high risk of serious injury... you don't get to attack the ball at any cost.

Have to agree to disagree here, I don't think it's reasonable to say he launched himself at Brayshaw, when he left the ground he has no way of knowing that Brayshaw will change direction.

Worst thing about the Maynard decision is that it emboldens the hordes of Collingwood flogs on social media who are adamant in the belief that their club is bigger than the league itself. Galling some of those knobs.

lmao at the purps.

Outgoing Fremantle president Dale Alcock says Dockers can be ‘formidable’ club

Outgoing Fremantle president Dale Alcock says the Dockers have all the pieces to be a “formidable” club but acknowledged they had a ways to go.
Speaking for the final time at the club’s Best and Fairest award night, the Doig Medal, Alcock urged the players to aspire to be “feared”.
“I want to talk to you about building a formidable club,” he said.
“We’re not there yet, but everything is in place.
“We have great senior coaches in Justin Longmuir and Lisa Webb.

“We’ve got it all, and we’ve got it all here now to be truly formidable, meaning inspiring fear and respect through being impressively large, powerful, intense and capable.”
He stated player buy-in would be vital, and they should aspire to be like Geelong and the Swans.
“It’s a view our players have to understand and be how we see ourselves. We need to aspire to be formidable in order to achieve it and be seen by others as being formidable,” Alcock said.
“When we play Geelong and Sydney in any AFL season or Adelaide and Melbourne in AFLW, we never take them for granted because they are formidable opponents.
“My message is simple in stepping down; let’s inspire fear and respect, be impressively powerful, intense and capable.”

There's a video of Eddie toasting the decision in a crowded room declaring justice has been done.

All over an incident where a player was knocked unconscious for 2 minutes and has career threatening concussion issues.

Definitely a situation worth celebrating over.

Hope it will be GWS that they are playing.

Game in Melbourne so there won’t even be enormous boos when Maynard gets the ball probably cheers.

Flyin knew what Maynard was about in 2018.
