What I'm truly impressed by is that you would have watched the incident and the replay in real time more than once, you know how long 4 seconds is, and your brain never went "Hang on...what's wrong with this picture?" :p

Yeah I was thinking they were referring to the time starting from his run towards Brayshaw until the moment of impact.

With regards to timing. I find it funny that in a sport like basketball where people are contesting 3 pointers multiple times per game, and running at people full tilt with milliseconds reaction time that there arent more concussions on court becasue of it. And believe me shooters be crafty and are trying to get hit or "moving into lanes" as it were yet no concussions to multiple of these examples every game.
Excellent example.
Because the player is focusing in blocking the ball and not to take the man out.

I swear to god whenever the stopwatch was brought out my teachers or coaches would look at the 100 'fast numbers' and go, 'you ran 20 milliseconds faster slower'.

Oh 'it's in the name' is it? Shut up nerds.

100% what I was thinking too mate, there's only space for 2 digits for the milliseconds on my watch, then the seconds tick over - which means once they reach the 3rd digit of 100 that's the second divided into 100. Despite EVERY other unit of measurement using milli to refer to a 1000 increment I still didn't get it.

Just another reason to be angry at Michael Christian.

Not really. The defender in BB is probably taking 2 steps and is nowhere near full tilt. Maynard had a lot more momentum than a defender closing a 2-4m gap between the key and the 3pt line. Maynard was coming from a 20m run up or thereabouts and Brayshaw was moving at close to full speed out of the middle, not propping and jumping to take a shot.
It was definitely an unusual circumstance but I cant see any comparison between the 2 situations.

I think in the end the decision may be right despite the terrible consequence. Looking at it in full speed, I dont see how Maynard could have time for any thought process once the ball had cleared his hands, it was all on instinct. Duty of care would require the player to either a) make a decision before launching an action (EG electing to place a bump, make a smother etc.) or b) make a decision during the action to minimse harm.
I think a) was justified in attempting a smother, something not inherently dangerous like a bump and b) it was instinct and no time available to assess the danger and make a conscious decision on his body placement.

Yeah I'm more thinking of the examples where they have to close out corner from weak side ie have built up speed. They get a good run up and are flying on that close out but always manage to go beside the player. And the examples of where they are clumsy and do make contact they are always usually hugging the shooter knowing they ****ed up. Not tucked into a ball and cleaning him up.

Yeah, even so, they are going at a more or less stationary bloke rather than one moving at speed towards them. I think there is a substantial reaction time difference. In any case, the incident was very unusual and not one I think we are likely to see very often. I don't think this case will promote a rash of 'copycats" with players trying to disguise a bump as a smother like some are suggesting will happen.

Time is base 6, not base 10.

How are Port going to get all these people in. That's like 3 or four now requesting a trade there.
Absolutely no way they have the capital to do them all.

Sweet asked for a move to Port.
Brandon Zerk- Thatcher also wants to go there.
I'm sure there was a third but names not coming to me.

Creativity with future picks.

Could also see someone like Duursma cashed in on to create draft picks as he hasn't really kicked on since his rookie year.

With Sweet, Brandon two-dads and Esava all wanting to go to Port, how do they pay for them all?
They don't have a R1 this year, North have that;
they don't have their R2 or R3 this year, we have those.
They do have Collingwoods R2 and Freos R3, but can they on-trade those?

Given that they didn't have a 1st rounder in 2022 and don't have one for 2023, can they future trade their 2024 R1?
Regardless, their trade capital on picks is pretty light on.

What would it take to get Duursma off their hands? I’d be keen at the right price. Has had some interrupted seasons so may come cheap.
