F***en ridiculous by the AFL!! Might as well just let them choose all their players first and then the rest of the teams can have the scraps.
And they would still stuff that up....

It might be time to rejig the state systems and implement relegation.

Otherwise, teams have zero incentive to get their house in order....

Unless of course the AFL are simply doing this to invest in the attendance, ratings and membership bonanza that a successful North will bring the competition.

It's not about the ability to draft from all states, for the northern clubs. It's about having players that are homegrown (like footy states have) and not susceptible to go home factors, poaching. It also increases the players from footy states that are available to the other clubs, because if northern clubs are developing and selecting locals, the other clubs have more Vic, SA, WA talent to draft. Not all academy players go to the home clubs either, some go to other AFL clubs, others may not make it, but are beneficial to state, local leagues, so it increases the overall pool and improves the talent pool, where it wouldn't if the academies didn't exist.

It's astonishing that this still needs to be explained.

This post is a complete load of shiite.

A Sydney fan trying this on is hilarious

There was nothing stopping WC, or any of the other clubs sooking it up who have been crap in recent years, from going to the AFL with a similar request for help.

If you don't ask, you don't get.

Other than dignity and work ethic.

youve won 12 games in 4 years.

pipe down

Much rather the assistance be end of first round which they have done a mid 20’s pick this year plus a couple in and around 20 is fine. Doesn’t impact clubs much and if North have a brain they’d trade half of them

And therein lies the problem, because if they had a collective administrative brain in the first place they wouldn't be in this position now.

So whats changed ?

Essendon have only had the Leroy Jetta pick i believe.

Carlton (Heavily), Hawthorn, Western Bulldogs, St.kilda, Gold Coast (Enormously), GWS, Richmond, West Coast, Melbourne, Collingwood off the top of my head have all benefited from priority picks as well.

When its North its a problem though isnt it.
Says who? This isn't the discussion we're having.

You're sooking about the clubs who have benefited more. I'm telling you there's also plenty who have benefited less.

Nope, it’s end of first round - meaning it’ll be tied to the pick after the premier.
Yes, subject to review.

It doesn't state what that review is but if they're allowed to trade them, then that's the only possible outcome.

Yeah, heard similar screaming before, never accompanied by logic or reasoning though. Why not just admit that plenty of fans don't care about a competitive competition. At least it'd be refreshingly honest.

This is an absolute disgrace on so many levels. Seething. Once again the VFL cares nothing for the integrity of the game.

North did this to themselves. Whats the lesson? If you stuff it up, stuff it right up and the AFL will come and bail you out. Stuff it up just a bit and midtable clubs can happily languish there.

The 2024 picks are even more disturbing - they are effectively encouraging North to be awful for next year too. Do too well and you might lose 2x 1st rounders. It's competition-sanctioned tanking.

Their time will come.
Essendon hasn't won a final in 20 years and have had 1 priority pick. Our extended shitness hasn't generated anything other than ridicule so I highly doubt our time with priority picks will come.

Who would want them if the Roos jump up the ladder and the AFL decides to get rid of them ?

Are they untouchable if traded? The news doesnt seem to say.
There is zero chance the AFL would take them if they're traded away.

The blueprint has been set and you've already made a start on it. Hire Bard Scotts.... ;)

They would absolutely be untouchable once traded. That would be a new level of ****ed up if the AFL could still review them.

You'd want to see it in writing before trading for them.

Though you assume this is a sneaky way to have GCS get their points to match bids this year and next year by swapping 4 for the this year and one of next year picks. Or even pushing for all 3 of the picks.

The logic and reasoning have been posted so many times before, you lot just refuse to admit it lol, here we go again.

The AFL know and understand if any of the Northern clubs spend years on the bottom of the ladder then their 'fans' will drop off in droves, so the AFL needs to artificially prop them up and keep them successful. It's crucial for the media income that the AFL receives.

Use your club as evidence. Sydney is capable of attracting the best talent and doesn't lose players any more players to the go home factor than any other club in the competition. Therefore, your pathetic excuse just isn't valid.

Everyone knows it, everyone accepts it, no idea why you have to try and convince yourself of this bullshit story about losing players to the 'go home' factor. get your hand off it,

Reminder. Brisbane received only 1 end of first round priority pick in 2016. This was how they tracked

2018 5W / 17L 89.07% 15th
2017 5W / 17L 74.31% 18th
2016 3W / 19L 61.63% 17th
2015 4W / 18L 67.52% 17th
2014 7W / 15L 69.26% 15th

WOW! I'd love to see 5 wins in a season!
