Billie Smedts you absolute moron. We've just gone through one of our worst months on the roads in years and he does this;

Well, no-one can ever accuse most footballers of being Rhodes' Scholars, Mike Fitzpatrick probably being the only exception;)

The 684 'likes' is even more of a concern.

But that's what makes it so stupid, if you or I did it we'd have a few people look it and think "idiot", as he has 10,000 followers that see what he's doing, and if only one of those followers copies him it could be deadly.

Dick head is an understatement here.

To be fair to Smedts it says in the article the car was stationary at the time he took this phone.

Still not the best look

Now that'd be a nice little project for third year image processing students - determine if the car in this photo is / is not moving. (Hint: start by computing the spacial frequencies of the car body, the wheel and the image background)

If Smedts is lying then he'll get busted.

I can tell by some of the pixels and seeing a lot of shops in my time.

Does anyone remember the massive outrage at a couple of Olympians posting pics of themselves holding guns on twitter?
Watch the news tonight.

I wonder if the same outrage....outrages?

Is that an open beer tinny next to him in the console?
What's he got in his hand?
It looks like a baseball bat

And screams 'road rage' to me.
The whole image portrays rage

Modern day jousting perhaps? :P

Ahh the faux moral panic.

If this was Dane Swan in a Stationary car everyone knows we wouldn't have the same level of outrage.
How quick we are to condemn players from other clubs on the basis of very little evidence.

For those who read Spuddus Biggus (Chip LeGrand) article the other day.

If you had any doubt he's just an Essendon mouthpiece look at this twitter exchange, what a dirt bag.

@Melbchief AOD9604 illegal to use in sport. Then & now. Muddying the waters on this serves no purpose & some might argue irresponsible

Chip Le Grand@Melbchief27 Dec
@ProfDocHealth No Probs Doc. Now if you could just refer me to a successful anti-doping case based on the use of AOD9604.....

So much for the road toll concern, with 242 dead for the year, the lowest since 1924. Or do we need to apply even more pressure on motorists with more police road presence and lower speed limits to lower the toll even further? What about a zero alcohol level for everyone to knock a few more fatalities off the total?o_O

I remember in the late 80's / early 90's the Victorian road toll was around 4 times that.

The state government found that they were spending around $1,000,000 to investigate and process every road fatality ... so they tried investing that money in advertising ("drink drive bloody idiot", "lucky phil", "speed kills", etc, etc), and on breath testers, booze buses, speed cameras, etc ... and from memory the government ended up saving money.

So part of the argument was about economic rationalisation - it ended up being one of those economic rationalisation activities that had strong ethical and community benefits.

I am one who expressed a concern about the Smedts incident. It is not faux outrage, just disappointment that yet again mucking around in cars is seen as a bit of fun or a joke. I couldn't care less what footballers do in their down time, as long as they don't injure themselves or others, or let the team/club down through some idiocy or poor judgement. There is a lot of pressure on these young kids, and its not easy for them. But the road toll, and safety on the roads is a very serious matter, and should not be joked about. That is my problem with the Smedts image.

FWIW, it looks like the Hamilton Hwy, which is the route I always take between Geelong and Hamilton. Unlike the Princes Hwy, there is hardly any traffic, and it is tempting to hoons!
