I love the rule, it makes it really hard to match a top 5 talent + others but shouldn't effect much once a player falls outside the top 15-20.

Depends what it looks like cause there was no substance to that announcement.

AFL house playing fast and loose? I never!

The rule I was referencing was the matching with only two picks. I thought it was in the article but it wasn't so here is the X post about it. You are right that that further changes will probably occur which go too far in the limiting direction

This could be very interesting to watch play out.

And detrimental to the northern acadamies but anyway

Its tough for proper top end talent but it does nothing for bid matching beyond pick 20. Like we matched Cleary at 24 with pick 43 and 47 whereas now with the new rules it will be picks 36 and 38 or something like that. Still easily gettable

Thinking more long term on return and the continue eroding of the pathways and benefit of running them

Yep, this will hurt northern academies more than NGA's. NGA's are passport related box ticking exercises, academies are funding reliant development pathways. If there is no benefit there will be no funding

Teams for Saturday's U17 Futures showcase game:

Seen a bit of Guy Jenkins but not been prolific - maybe 6/7 possies

Think McCartney has one possie - maybe two and not looked near it.

Van Hatten looks really good at either end.

Walker f/s for Carlton stamping credentials as pick 1 so far

Edit: and on cue McCartney takes a mark on lead but doesn't make the distance with the shot from 45

Walker is that far ahead of everyone next year

Putting on a clinic currently.

Not been impressed by the Academy guys in Guy Jenkin and McCartney so far.

Few on the radar in Van Hattum and LeCras but a heap of time to develop for the cohort

It's why I'm not particularly worried about next year's group, even at this early stage.

There is a few flying under the radar like Price and Blackwell-Smith due to the depth of mids.

2027 looks like a great year for us

He’d likely go 1 this year let alone next year
