meant to add that apparently Hine was all over Brennan from WA. had the kid lined up and were committed but when the WCE found out they decided to re-engage the kid and then ultimately f/s him.

WCE trust Hine more than there guys;)

Fact: Trying to predict what Hine does is futile

but it is great fun speculating. I was pretty happy with some of his selections albeit I think he isnt as well connected as Burga was which is understandable. Also got to remember there are so many players who could go in that last 40 picks ...its just so even.

True No One can be 100% sure on DH.

Those it is Daffy's 1st Year in the Job where Burga had about a Decade

This is one I think we should "take a punt on", more then anything for depths sake.

I could see him really challenging to be in our midfield rotation by the end of the year, as he may even improve when he gets to AFL level, just as Barlow did last season. (Wasn't anything between Barlow and Sewell in 09 VFL).

Sewell is the type of "experienced" player I want us to go for, not a dud that has been delisted by another AFL team, but a player who may be given a chance.

The other thing I like about Sewell is if we lose a big time midfielder to GWS or free agency he could be a really important pickup.

I don't really see a reason why he won't go ok. Has the work rate, application and footy smarts to make it at the next level. I think he will be available at 77.

If we don't take him GWS will likely take him and probably become a very, very good player. Hibbard and Curnow also fit into that bracket where they might slide through to the rookie draft but could prove to be great value selections late who can play pretty immediately.

Phillips as a rookie might be another.

Not so sure on Gilbee but that is just my general aversion to Tasmanians

Was also odd he had Ugle in at #28 but then mentioned small players dont get drafted high and couldnt find a spot for Milera.

Yeah Gilbee is more of a rookie. Not super keen either.

Ugle I feel is more of a rookie also. Have heard on WA news that Ugle would go to WCE at 29. Will be interesting if it happens. Would have to be very keen to add him there. At 171cm I really don't see it either. Milera is more talented even if he doesn't have the same speed. But with that said I wouldn't take him either in the national draft.

The draft order i've settled on is: (not what I think the club will do and don't think we will take any of these to be honest. but it's what I'd do based on who I expect to be available at each of our selections)

45: Daniel Farmer (Versatile utility. Like the look of him on a forward flank. Good value selection who should be available)
46: Sam Crocker (Utility who could play anywhere, but I feel he would look really good on a forward flank. Real offensive weapon who can hurt teams with his left foot)
60: Matthew Rankine (Optimal crumbing forward option and real talent. Has potential to be a forward who can rotate into the midfield and have an impact)
77: Thomas Gordon (KPP who can play either end. I expect would be played down back. Is expected to be available late, so I'd take him. Very talented and creative tall so there is potential)
78: Myles Sewell (Solid inside mid. Insurance more than anything. But if a midfielder goes down during the season I expect he will be good for 20+ disposals and won't get beaten. Not an athlete and not super strong, but a very good footballer. I think he might be available here)

Rookie:
1. Ben Brown (Wouldn't be opposed to using 77/78 or even 45 really, but since Paul Daffey is adamant that he won't get draft I'd take him here)
2. Nathan Phillips (Will be available as a rookie, that I have no doubt. Mid/forward)
3. Kyle Hartigan (KPD and as a rookie certainly one worth looking at. Had a good season at VFL level)
4. Charlie Riewoldt (Talented but will take time. Physically not developed yet and not a great athlete, but with time could develop into a really nice medium forward)

Other considerations who I also think represent value: Andrew Phillips (I think he might be available in the rookie draft and I'd very willingly take him with our 1st rookie selection. I think he'll back it),
Michael Hutchinson (Running half back flanker from QLD. Strong overhead and with time could be a really nice player off a back flank. Overaged project player, but there is allot to like and see allot of development left),
Luke Shreeve (Forward who can push into the midfield. Another QLDer but I expect him to be available. Very talented kid who just seems to have it).

A final player to look out for. Patrick Karnezis. If available at 45 would represent a bargain. Unclear whether he will be available, but signs are he might slide further than he deserves to, just unclear whether he will be available at our selection. Tall, but creative forward. Looks really good as a high half forward flanker who could also push into space inside 50.

Side note: Will update my yearly Knightsight for those who have followed it after both the national draft and rookie draft. Some of these players are likely to be included, if sliders happen then I might just jump aboard if there is one I really like and have high on my list.

I am pretty sure he has gone to the GC.

I am pretty sure he has gone to the GC.

Not as far as I know. From Tasmania like Jack so not a QLD or NT Zone selection. Wasn't prelisted.

Just the fact that he is an undeveloped prospect who hasn't put it all together yet is why he is expected to be available as a rookie.

Half a dozen very close uni mates play for the Blues and they all agree that Dan Nicholson would be a very good pickup. Apparently has a great work ethic and is hard at it - would be thrilled to see him at the pies.

I've seen so many "mock drafts", and while some of them may get it right, the fact is, more then most will be wrong, especially when it comes to Collingwood's later picks.

We are drafting for the future, not for "right now", and in a few years time we will need defensive backup, both tall and medium, and also "speed", in any position we can get it.

We aren't a "quick" list compared to most, and we need pace.

I trust in Derek Hine, I actually hope he pulls a few "smokies" out of the pack, because some of these "smokies" in the past were the very same players who played in the magnificent Grand Final win.

My "prediction" is that no one will get Collingwood's picks 100% right, in any mock draft.

Sort of Correct Matty. Daffy got the all wrong but Snoop had us taking Farmer and Hine did

Both Snoop and I really wanted Farmer and we were both pretty pleased to get him.

Unless you know the inside sources it's just too difficult to calculate who will be going at each selection. So as an outsider the thing i've learned is to just look at the players you personally think from seeing these kids will be the best fits for each team rather than random articles linking particular players to particular clubs.
