With Fletch and Jake being I believe our first two tall defenders named, who would you rate as our third best tall option at their best:

I believe Pears at his best is a better option than Hooker - thats my opinion, interested to hear what other people think.

I think Pears is a better "3rd Defender", though I think Hooker will be picked more often, as he offers something that Carlisle and Fletcher do not, that being that Hooker is more adept taking the "monster" key forwards, IMHO.

Pears, Hooker is in that Lonergan, Reimers and Houli mould of "If you went to another club, it wouldn't be a huge issue to the fabric of our club" whereas I think Pears could rediscover former glory, and reach his potential if given some continuity from the soft tissue gods.

Don't think it effects us a lot which one we pick. I think Pears has more fans, and I probably tend to agree, the return of his run out of the backline and ball use would be most welcome.

Having said that, Hooker playing on the 2nd forward will see him do a terrific defensive job. Sure, you don't want him with the ball in hand, but you're allowed to have one of them in your team, and now without Hardingham it's fine. I'd rather it in Baguely's hands than the other 2.

In summary, different players but I don't think it matters a lot which one we play. Could well depend on match ups.

I'd like to see this, this weekend:

Van Unen, Pears, Fletcher
Hibberd, Carlisle, Dempsey

*If Hurley HAS to be played forward ZZzz

Hurley back and Gumby fwd

Pears in his previous great form was a gun in the back line, the issue is he has never recaptured that form after his injuries etc

Hooker for mine and I imagine Jimmy Hird will agree.

I'm content and happy with the job that Hooker is currently fulfilling. More importantly, I just wanted to come in here to say how much I like the OP's username.

Fairly simple - Hooker will usually be matched upon the second best tall forward - He should be able to do the job - If not Pears will replace him.

You have to keep playing Hooker until Pears consistently does enough to take the spot off him.

Exactly this, Hooker has a spot he has earned in my book, It's on Pears to take it, and on Hooker to lose it.
Which Obviously is great for the side as a whole.

The premise of the thread is flawed.

Fletcher is not tall defender number 2. It is the reason Hooker is being selected over Pears.

I agree with this, If Fletch wasn't around they'd both be playing,

Though if Fletch wasn't there id want Pears to take his place, and find someone else to take Hookers place... So maybe that means if I did have to choose 1 it would be pears.

Hooker and Carlisle are the two options that take the big brute forwards, Pears is not therefore the two shouldn't be compared. it isn't a one or the other Scenario IMO

I'd eventually like to see Pears in, Hooker out, Hurley back, and Daniher in. Gumby's invited too, but he's gotta make it there.
