Performances that would have been unforgettable with a different result

Buckley's 2002 GF
actually, I reckon Bucks still gets his just due as a player given the Norm Smith in that one. The real answer from that game is Ant Rocca - an immense performance that if we win gets held up as one of the all time great CHF performances in a GF

Pavlich in the 2006 Prelim v the Swans. Was immense all day and hit the post late from a tough shot from memory, which people remember as a 'choke'

Yep there's numerous Pav games for mine. The Swans prelim, the Adelaide 8 goal game mentioned, last year's GF, many others, where he's been immense but the team hasn't got the job done, and somehow he gets remembered as choking when he was one of main reasons we were even in it.

Hopefully he gets another chance, but if not, you'd hope enough people look at his finals record and have watched e.g. the elimination final against the Cats in 2012 to remember him properly.

Lenny's goal from outside 50

Haha I brought that moment up when I spoke to him after the game last week.

The guy is a legend. He went across the road to the pub and took photos and chatted to fans. It's always good when u think someone is a good bloke and they turn out to be just that.

If Dempsey wasn't called to play on in Essendon's almost miraculous comeback Vs Sydney.

something, something in the 2007 GF... who am I kidding, I got nothing :(
How about ....

If Collingwood had managed to get one more goal against Geelong in the PF, Port would have been 2007 premiers!

Darren Jarman vs Melbourne circa 1999. He kicked 9 of Adelaide's 13 goals, many from incredibly tight angles, in a three goal loss.

Tony Lockett vs Melbourne in 1987 kicked 12 of St.Kilda's 14 goals in a convincing loss. Had they won the game, that would've been talked about to this day imo.

'96 Grand Final, Paul Kelly's pass that Plugger drops. He holds that mark, kicks the goal we go in 3 goals up at halftime and with all the momentum.
He drops a sitter, the ball goes down the other end and McKernan kicks a goal to get the Kanga's within 2-goals at the half and the rest as they say is history.

THAT was the day the Premiership drought was meant to end and Lockett and Kelly get their Premiership medallions.

I've still not re-watched that game to this day. :(

That stings, i'll never forget it. And if the kick hit Lockett on the chest and we goaled it would have been a 28 point lead at the time. As fate had it, when he dropped it, literally 3 or 4 possessions and 20 seconds later North Freeborn kicks a goal and like you say the rest is history. :(

What if Barry Hall just clipped him instead of knocking him the shit out. Staker would have stumbled and likely got up only to get something far worse.
He was just lucky i guess :drunk:

Pav against Adelaide in 2005 at Football Park, he kicked 8 including 7 in the second half but we fell a kick short after being behind by 37 at 3/4 time. Probably slightly more memorable for me given I was at the game and was only the 2nd time I had flown to see an away game.
I remember that game clearly. Pav was a one man force of nature back in those days. We were deplorable as usual but everytime he went near it in the second half he either kicked a goal or set up a scoring opportunity.

97 GF is remembered for Jarman's 6 goals and McLeod's 31 touches + Norm Smith (fair enough) but no one seems to remember Robert Harvey dominated that day as well with 36 touches.

Mark West in the 97 Prelim final. Amazing game but missed an open goal that probably would have finished off the crows.

Brereton in 1985. Eight goals in a game they lost by thirteen goals.

Kernahan in 1993. Seven goals in a side beaten by seven goals.

They're two that definitely belong here.

something, something in the 2007 GF... who am I kidding, I got nothing :(

Tredrea was working his arse off in the 2nd quarter to try and get something going after Geelong smashed down the floodgates with brute force, had we come out after half time and at least been competitive he would've been the architect of that

If StKilda had held on in 2010 Goddards speccy would arguably seen as the most important mark in a GF of all time alongside Leo Barry

Goddard 2010 owns this thread. Would've been remembered as one of the most influential Grand Final quarters ever.

+1

Unlucky not to win the Norm Smith imo.
