Not so bad, but would have been better with Lyons in it. Can pretty much guarantee an injury to one of Sloane or the Crouches now as well.

Lever Talia Doedee
Smith Hartigan Hampton
Cameron Laird Sloane
Lynch Walker Beech
Betts Jenkins Menzel
Jacobs MCrouch BCrouch
McGovern Knight Atkins Milera

My version of a shake up.
Laird - Gets the ball easy and is hardnut. With the amount of small defenders we have its time to try him in midfield. Replaces Thompson.
Cameron - time for more midfield time. Also could possibly play down back on Rioli types has pace tackles hard. Also struggles in front of goal at times so defence might be more his calling. Replaces Brown/Mackay
Beech - if he can bring his game and style to AFL level would add a whole new dimension to the forward line. Replaces Douglas. Kicks bags also.
Doedee - replaces Cheney. Youth takes priority.
Hampton - fills Lairds role.
Menzel - fills Camerons old role
Knight/Milera - replaces Lyons/Mackay

The challenge is for these players to get to the level required. If the Midfield can apply more pressure which Laird and Cameron can help with our defense will be much better not that it was bad. The Crouch brothers need to go up a level and Laird assist on the inside which will help Sloane play more outside then 2016. With Cameron I think we need to keep him away from goal his set shots are no good. Either he applys pressure in back half or we turn him into our version of Aaron Hall. Cameron will be a star just not in front of goal.

A-farken men!

Now wait for the naysayers on here to shoot you down. Just remind them that Roo, Goody and Edwards all started on the HBF for us. Should we have left them there too?

Nothing to lose in trying Laird in the guts. Plenty of HBF guys on outer Hampton Seedsman Wigg Brown. There is no shortage there but midfielders there is. Laird would be better than CEY in Thompsons spot.

That midfield doesn't fill me with a lot of confidence on paper. Hopefully CEY can develop his game as he has the body to compete with the behemoth mids of other teams. Knight must play Douglas' role. Having Hampton and Atkins run the wings gives us some real class there, and although Atkins may not have as much "run and carry" as Mackay, he can find time and is very creative with his ball use.

On paper its a good team, but I would feel a lot more confident with Lyons in the middle for some quality depth at this stage

Laird and Smith must get involved in our midfield rotations as do Milera and Knight

Wigg to make our backline more attacking and another guy that can role through midfield

Our forward line is a weakness as well as a strength as not many spots to role through midfielders so must use our backline to roll through mids instead

There are 10 guys (*) in that side who can spend time in midfield including the wings

Mackay is a dead cert for R1. He is clearly one of the most professional and hard training guys at the club - our coaches love rewarding that despite there being 30 guys on the list ahead of him purely on footy talent.

in 2017, Thompson and Mackay need to be behind glass with a "Break glass in case of everyone else literally can't walk" sign. They should not be getting games otherwise.

FFS you know what will happen. Thommo and 400kay will play damn good NAB Cup games and being selection certainties for R1.

At the AFC training alone is good enough to cement a place in the 22, just ask VB. It took multiple games of him choking for the selection panel to say thanks but no thanks.
