R: O'Brien ~ Berry ~ Keays
HF: Rankine ~ Walker ~ McAdam
FF: Rachele ~ Fogarty ~ Thilthorpe

Not a lot of confidence on Hinge, Milera, Schoenberg, Smith, Seedsman.

A forward line of Rankine, Rachele, Walker, Fog, TT and McAdam has the potential to be better than our best ever forward line of Walker, JJ, Betts, Cameron, Lynch and McGovern.

Does Walker fade or carry his form for a few more years? 2024 could be explosive.

B Parnell - Butts - Doedee
HB Worrell - Murray - Hamill
C Dawson - Laird - Soligo
HF Rachele - Walker - Rankine

Imo, Walker just needs to be managed. Should play about 70% of games.

We have Gollant & Himmelberg who can cover depending on how we want to match up.

Some of these would want a big preseason.

Horne in 2023, flag in 2024

Two Rs up forward is pretty exciting; I’m hoping Pedlar, Cook, Parnell & Taylor all have massive pre-seasons.

Lots of unknowns around Sloane/Brown//Hamill/Seedsman returning (unlikely for Seed I reckon), can Milera actually become a decent player (off HB would be nice), any surprise trade requests.

My stab:

Rachele Fogarty Rankine
McAdam Walker Sloane
Dawson Laird Jones
- O’Brien Berry Soligo
Hinge Murray Smith
Worrell Butts Doedee

/T’thorpe Sh’berg Taylor Milera
Sub: Pedlar/Cook

[With Smith & Brown slowing up, Hamill in doubt, Milera uncertain, Jones moving to a wing, and Parnell’s size a potential handbrake on making it - I actually think Davis isn’t a bad option off half back. I’ll go wash my mouth out now.]

Parnell - I like him, but can’t see him being best 22 if we are serious about moving up next year. He’s small, and his kicking overrated.
Hamill - think he will struggle to be best 22 personally with unreliability of body (concussion)
Pedlar - would need a huge preseason to be best 22. Will believe it when I see it.
Taylor - could be best 22. But would need to jump a few in the que.
Cook - 2022 was not a success for him. Needs to take his fitness seriously. Up to him. If he doesn’t come back looking noticeably trimmer he’s not in.

just wish we don’t try and over coach Rachelle and Rankine natural flair and X factor .

B. Doedee Butts. Jones
Hb smith. Worrell. Hinge
C. Dawson. Berry. Milera
Hf. Tex. Murray. Rachelle
F. Mcadam. Fog. Rankine

R Thilthorpe. Soglio. Laird

Int cook , Schoenberg, Pedlar , keays

Sub: Newchurch

Probably need to recruit another key defender, ruck and an elite mid

I don't get what Parnell has done to deserve to be picked straight up. For a guy whose strength is meant to be his kicking skills, he had a LOT of awful turnovers by foot.
Looking at his body of work I think he is a walk up start.

Has some shockers, but to be expected for an 11 game player you'd think.

Parnell Butts Hinge
Jones Murray Worrell
Dawson Laird Milera
Keays Walker Rachele
Rankine Fogarty McAdam

Thilthorpe Berry Soligo

Int Schoenberg Taylor Pedlar Doedee

This is not what we will see - most of Smith, McHenry, Murphy, O’Brien, Sloane will probably be in the Rd 1 side. But we are still rebuilding which means getting games into recent draftees. A rebuild doesn’t work if all those young players you just drafted cant get a game in front of slightly older, more experienced, but mediocre players.

Not at all convinced that Doedee has a spot anymore, with Worrell and Hinge looking OK.

Have listed TT as ruck because I reckon it’s where he is best at the moment. Murray can chop out.

B: Hamill Butts Worrell
HB: Dawson Murray Doedee
C: Seedsman Berry Hinge
HF: Rankine Fogarty McAdam
F: Thilthorpe Walker Rachele
R: Strachan Laird Soligo

INT: Schoenberg McPherson Milera 2022 draft pick

This is mostly what I think the club will pick bar a couple of my selections.

Assumptions:
Seedsman comes back okay.

Sloane isn't ready by round 1

Milera is pushed back to HB or wing during pre season

My picks:
Strachan isn't a world beater, but I'm officially off ROB and the Port game sealed it. Too slow and clumsy when he gets the ball, and this is too often.

We usually start a draft pick from the prior draft. This year it was Rachele and Soligo. The year before it was Berry etc. Obviously can't predict who that will be.

Notes:
As long as Hamill isn't concussed in the pre season, he's a lock imo. The club rates him and so do I. Speed and strong defensively.

McPherson similar. The club likes him. He's a good defender who provides drive. Just hope he gets fit.

I'm backing Doedee to get fit and find form again. He's a gun when on and still has a lot of improvement left in him.

am i the only one here that thinks Newchurch wont make it? that he will be delisted in a fortnight

B: Doedee - Butts - Worrell
HB: Smith - Murray - Hamill
C: Dawson - Berry - Seedsman
HF: Rankine - Walker - McAdam
F: Thilthorpe - Fogarty - Rachele
R: O’Brien - Schoenberg - Laird
I: Soligo - Keays - Hinge - Cook - Milera (sub)

E: Himmelberg - Taylor - Parnell

Seeds is a best case scenario but unfortunately I doubt he’s right to go, in which case swap him with Milera who I think will be much better second season back from injury, and give Taylor an early go as the sub.

I can't see us delisting Newchurch this year, seeing he's a cat b rookie (so it doesn't help the list crunch) and we can retain for one more year.

End of next year though? It's more likely we delist then retain at this point.

B: Parnell - Butts - Doedee
HB: Smith - Murray - Milera
C: Rankine - Hately - Dawson
HF: Sloane - Walker - Soligo
F: Rachele - Thrillthorpe - Fogarty
R: ROB - Laird - Berry

I/C: McAdam - Worrell - McHenry - Schoenberg

*Rankine and Rachele both spending time in the forward line and further up the field.
*Berry to take another big step forward as a mid bull. Hately to be given a crack on ball, utilising his size
*Murray keeps his spot in the absence of a KPD recruit
*Backing ROB to bounce back after a shaky 2022 and start 2023 strong. A smart bloke who works hard.

Hoping to see Pedlar, Taylor, and Michalanney all given a run throughout the season.

Pretty good but I'd have taylor before hately.
