O'Shea is incredibly popular at Alberton ....
It's a default response about our players as as the axe looms. Butcher was incredibly popular. Hitchcock was incredibly popular. Primus was incredibly popular. And so it goes. Yet Tredrea was not seen as one of the boys. I'm beginning to think popularity at Alberton is not a good thing.

Don Bradman wasn't a popular member of his team either, but I hear he could play a bit.....

Dean Wallis the patron saint.

Barely league standard but served as a beloved enforcer on and off the field, so eked out 127 games and 2 flags over 15 years, only playing more than 20 games in a single season once.

Those early days are trick for young players. I looked at those early days both on that great full points footy site and other records over many years and just accepted them. But back when footy historian Bernard Whimpress wrote his article about Adelaide Oval GF's in 2012 that I cut and pasted from, I decided to actually go back and look at which were GF losses and which were 2nd places, I added them all up.

Yeah pre Fos and Jack we lost a shit load of GF's, even allowing for Fos non playing coach losses

Fos playing coach 6-1
Motley playing.... 1-0
Fos non playing... 3-6
Jack................. 10-1
Russel............... 0-1
Stephen Williams..3-1
Choco..................1-1

Thats ................24-11 and prior to Fos it was 10-19 + those 5 seconds and 3 firsts

Speaking of early days are you counting Challenge finals as well as "grand" finals?

Fun game and at the very least one of the more entertaining ones. Lacked the close ending that will have it locked in as one of the best. But it will be a few years before those of us who watched it live and were behind the Doggies will forget the enjoyment it brought.

Deep down I know that we'll hold that record forever, but outside of the GF being a tight thriller I still hold quiet hope for a 20-goal Armageddon.

Yeah, that perfect storm will never happen again. Not least with a senior assistant and head coach actively conspiring to insure the score is run up against their own team.

Said he's put between $2,000,000 and $3,000,000 of his own cash into the club since returning in December 2014.

Footscray will never not be a welfare club in multiple capacities. And they're never really made to feel guilt for that.

We were sucked dry by the parasitic SANFL - and continue to be - and we're perennially seen as a club of bludging rogues. Yeah.
Yeah, since we joined the AFL really only North of the struggling Vic clubs (Hawks at the start of our AFL time, North, Melbourne, Bulldogs) have copped any pressure. Melbourne it's been 'but VFL HISTORY man!!!'. Bulldogs just seemed to have slipped under the radar of any pressure to seek other markets etc. as Hawks (Tassie got their return to financial stability going), Melbourne (at least trying with games in NT). Bulldogs a couple of half-arsed efforts earlier to sell games in ACT/NSW that went nowhere and then let off when they went nowhere.

Another reason why I'm not gushing for their flag. Getting as much financial support as us over the years, without the justifications and pulling shittier crowds then and now, despite more weeks then not having another Vic side to prop up the crowd figures. Get stuffed glorifying them now.

**** the Bulldogs, how does a club like that win as many as us since we entered the AFL.

They scored more points than their opponents 4 weeks in a row id say.

But seriously I dont get why this is such a big deal for some people. It says more about us than them.

Combined with modern attitudes, for example Malthouse putting full back Nathan Brown to full forward during their Pies demolition of the Saints, turning what was a 10 goal game at the time to a... 10 goal game.
