+ Alex Withderen. Managed to step in for Hurn in Glass' old #23
+ Oscar Allen. Just get better
+ Jack Darling. A good night with 5 goals
+ Dom Sheed. 3 goals late in the 3rd quarter

- our last quarters
- Slow start

Positives:
+ Witherden's debut. Get the ball in hands as often as possible I say. Precision use of the footy.
+ Responded after last week and a very poor first quarter. In many ways, it was more satisfying to watch them respond to a Magpie challenge, rather than just steamrolling them from the get go (ala Port R3, Melb PF etc.)
+ 2nd and 3rd quarter showed our best is as good as anyone's.
+ Brander's continued development. Was very good again and his confidence is growing. A couple of brilliant passes by foot that came off which he wouldn't have even attempted two weeks ago.
+ Oscar and Jack up front are just so hard to stop. Not tonight, but JK would usually make that an incredibly imposing trio to stop.
+ Comfortable win despite NicNat getting beaten.
+ On that note, Midfield wasn't clean for the majority of the night, but Redden, Sheed, Gaff and Kelly got in and got dirty, rather than just waiting for big Nic to palm it into their laps.
+ That will be a huge confidence boost for Duggan. He's definitely a better defender right now but I hope we don't give up completely on his attempted move into the midfield. He was four games into a very difficult transition. It's not going to happen straight away. If he can make it happen, we'll be a much better team for it.
+ Backline as always so comfortable with ball in hand. But must be said, Colingwood were abysmal in how little pressure they put on us with the ball. We took 88 marks in the second and third quarter's alone. Other teams won't let us do that with the ease the Pie's did.

Neutral:
= Barass and McGovern were a bit up and down tonight. As always they are great intercepting. Got caught out defensively a few times. Sometimes it pays right off. Sometimes not. Tonight, it was kinda in the middle somewhere.

Negatives:
- As ever, we continue to float in and out of games. First quarter was really poor, and we were probably lucky to only be 2.5 goals down at QT.
- Zero impact from our small forwards. Definitely an area of concern for us, especially with Petch and Ryan injured. Langdon and Cripps were non entities. Langdon is going to have to improve a lot to offer us anything. Cripps should be a better player than his is showing us in 2021.
- Can't keep going in this tall. There's just no real role for either Vardy or Waterman. Can probably shoe-horn the latter into a role if we really wanna play him and keep his development going, but not both.
- More injuries: JK ankle didn't look great. Rotham and Cole. Hope their both OK.
- Surely TK won't get suspended? Cunnington fine at worst you'd have to think. His has two issues - he left the ground, and De Goey ended up out of the match.
- De Goey and Howe injuries. Don't like to see players get injured, and it does leave a little cloud over our second and third quarters.

Positives
Redden, Gaff, Kelly all having great games
Witherden with a huge debut
Mcgovern dominating down back
Our tackling and general pressure was up causing turnovers
Darling and Allen with the 5 goals each.
3 goals from Dom sheed
Much better chemistry between Nic Nat and the Mids
Waterman found some form as a forward

Negatives
Letting collingwood back in with a sniff of victory
Injuries-Cole and Rotham
Thought Rotham was a little off with his disposal and defending

Perhaps a negative, and I suppose it wasn’t the fault of the mids tonight because we converted and marked so well, but we really need to find some extra avenues to goal. Was nice to see Kelly and Sheed hit the scoreboard tonight, but with Petch and Ryan down we really do need some scoring output from Langdon/Jones (when he comes back)/Cripps, plus our midfield. Especially next week in Geelong when it likely won’t be weather for talls.

The cupboard is very bare in that small forward area at the minute. It isn’t all about goals in that role, granted- but they still need to put themselves in the right spots.

I'm hearing you JW.
Hopefully Cameron is doing all the right things to be available.

He’s been captain fumbles his entire career. Now that he’s not kicking many goals and we’ve lost our good crumbers, it’s just exacerbating it.

he does a lot right but when we lack ground ball winners, you can’t afford your small forwards to be your worst offenders
He always starts the season fumbly and usually gets a lot better as the season goes on...same when he comes back from injury etc. hopefully will do the same again as we do need him in form.

+dugg
+Witherden
+Reddo
+Allen
+Darling

-we were a bit fortunate. Couple of injuries, pies not putting score board pressure on us in the 3rd made the game look more comfortable then it was. Last two weeks concerns me.
-there are periods where we have holes everywhere. Like we just stopped.

Quote me properly next time please. That was a quality melt IMO.

+
- Witherden huge on debut for us
- Redden gun
- Oscar future best KPF in the game
- Darling gun
- Duggan already our best player
- Brander playing some inspired footy since he came in

- We are very hard, nigh impossible, to beat at home

-
- Vardy trash
- Cripps trash
- Bit of a fade out
- Kennedy looks sore
- Geelong in Geelong next week

Was nice to see Kelly and Sheed hit the scoreboard tonight
Coming into the game our midfield had contributed 3 goals in 4 games. Compared with 82 from 25 in 2018. First steps to rectifying those missing goals tonight.

In 2018 we had Yeo (14), Gaff (12), Redden (10), Lycett (10), Hutchings (9), Sheed (8), Masten (7), Shuey (6) and NicNat (6) combined for 82 goals.

It was such a big reason we won the flag that year. It complemented our forward line really well. Even in the GF, we kicked 4/11 from the midfield.

When you’ve got Allen/Darling/Kennedy all who can lead up at you I’m not surprised we hit them up. We as a side are just so much more dangerous when you’ve got legitimate goal kicking options in the midfield. Gaff in particular had such a focus on it prior to his suspension and just hasn’t got back to it.

The mids obviously got a huge rocket

Kelly, Sheed, Redden and Gaff all played out of their skins.Theyre capable but that needs to be the standard every week....plus throw in Duggan and Brander, and then maybe O'Neill and Trew and we can build some decent depth in there while the big two are out.
Duggan went back and flourished.

+ 4 points
Good performances from the younger brigade.

- Struggling to put away a team who lost two of their best players early on.
- Fade Outs
- If you aren't full of rainbow unicorn farts positivity about mediocre performances you should keep your opinions to yourself instead of being allowed to vent on your own team board.

Gaff's best two seasons came in years he was kicking goals and he got AA in those years

+ Witherden - great to have a cool head and elite disposal down back. No Hurn kick-ins last week killed us.
+ OA - sign him up, lock him away. This kid is our future.
+ Duggan - played so well last year, started really poorly this year. This is what I wanted to see.
+ Waterman - much better when up forward. His work rate, despite being another tall, really stretched their defence.
+ Brander - taking the game on. The loping run is hard to catch.
+ Gaff and Redden - looked tougher this week, got their hands dirty.
+ Kelly and Sheed - more damaging with many of their disposals. Kelly still needs to run back harder.
+ Forwards - 10 goals between Darling and Allen makes it hard to lose

- Bullshit under pressure snap kicks - better off kicking them along the ground.
- Nic Nat/Vardy - got smashed in the ruck tonight. NN had an off night. Vardy was awful.
- Half volley handballs - no wonder we fumble so much.
- The top-up players - XON, Langdon, Cole & Vardy don't seem up to it. Hopefully, they don't cause too much grief while we wait for everyone to return.

You obviously watched a different game - Grundy carved up Nik Nat in the 1st quarter, but thereafter, it was Nik, who was supreme.

Valid criticism about the team - fire away. Some examples:
• I’m pissed off that we didn’t turn a 40 point lead into a big percentage booster given the opposition.
• I hate our selection, we’re way too tall.
• That was a s**t kick/decision/effort from ________
• Vintage “fold the club” melts

Speculation that Adam Simpson is having marriage problems because only an egomaniac lashing out would possibly select a side like this goes beyond that. Not constructive and not welcome. “We are the second worst team in football behind North Melbourne”. Patently untrue and downright embarrassing stuff.

There is a huge difference between a fair enough criticism/a well earned vent, and people whinging like spoiled entitled babies striking out at anything and everything they see.

Strange call but I really reckon Sheed is Shuey like...not in how they play at all....
but in how underated in importance they are to us. By our own fans as much as anyone.

When Dom plays well we win, plain and simple. Shuey's still never been AA but when he plays well we very rarely lose.

Just a drunken observation
He still annoys me with his garbage defensive efforts
