Brodie Grundy had the most tackles today with 9. To put that into perspective the next-most were fellow newcomers Jordon & Roberts, with 3.

Pleasing signs of intent from three fresh faces.

He was arguably our best today, but he had about five abysmal hack kicks out of the centre, all of which were lucky to be marked by our forwards.

Swans fans would hang Luke Parker up on a washing line by his ears and swing him around until he flew off into a different postcode if he did even one of them.
Yeah that's how I felt too. He had a great game but his kicking action really limits him on being able to kick those low flat deliveries & quick effective kicks in traffic. Because of that, when he's in congestion he'll try to find space to hack the ball forward or take on an opponent too many instead of giving a quick handpass. We all love his burst from stoppage and line breaking ability, but it's his inside midfield craft and polish I'd love to see improve in his game this year. Still had a great day out, improved his disposal as the game grew.

McDonald kicking 4 goals against GWS's defence is pretty damn impressive. They have one of the best defensive units in the game, especially with Sam Taylor there.

Four goals? Against GWS' defence? That is soooooo 2023 Hayden McLean in the wet

There's a point where a "better" player is no longer better because he's playing in the wrong position. Balance is the key.

Depends on the player and team balance. Some have multiple strings to their bow and can play anywhere (Goodesy was a virtuoso of the entire orchestra string section) and others are pure specialists unable to play other positions (JPK was an example, where he was tried at HB but all the then alternatives were better).

Parker can definitely play a quality forward game. As some have suggested, he should and will play a fair bit of time forward. Thought he was pretty good yesterday and imo showed toughness and organisation Our forward line needs. Was delighted that Spike noted his efforts and hinted at the likely increased time forward for a Parker.

Where the Dogs have gone wrong is with McRae, Treloar and Smith. They lost Dunkley through playing him out of position/role. I think our list is much better balanced and we are less likely to make that error.

Agree.

McRae is a pure accumulating mid. He was as effective;as a half forward last year as Grundy was when playing as a KPF. At least Smith can play wing. (tho I don’t rate him as an inside or outside mid and I don’t get the fuss about him.)

It looks like a large number of players will be run through the mids. This should help mix and match against various Oppo. Blokes like McInerney and Parker are genuinely adaptable.

Different point entirely but I was delighted with how Grundy won clearances at a few stoppages. When he was an AA player at the Pies this was what he was renowned for.

I’m on the Brodie train (especially with the Pie subsidy). Nice to see a mobile ruck getting involved after the tap.

Excuse me he doesn't use the BOM , i do , he uses charts from Norway or somewhere over there , thanks Bomford
au contraire.
I use the BOM. They are fantastic. Their AXS-C is the most accurate chart for Australia . Period.
The BOM uses the same charts (and others) ECMWF as is used by YR.No (Norway).

Moving on.
Its been a wet and cloudy summer for Sydney.
Would not be shocked if that continues for SCG home games till easter.

Happy to continue to challenge

correct, that's why I don't get the issues in playing players out of their better positions.

Mills couldn't fit in our midfield, but we were better off having him play in defence than in the VFL
Papley is a better forward than a midfielder but we need him in the centre square at times as our midfield unit has been poor

If Horse would rather play Roberts and Campbell in defence then it's because the other defenders aren't good enough to kick them out, meanwhile the other midfielders are too good

My take is what is a current players output vs what is the ceiling of some of the newer players?

It seems as though the coaches are leaning into playing Roberts down back. They seem to see something there.
"Elite kicking" they say.
Maybe they see his output as having a higher potential, given a good run at things, than existing players. Like Lloyd.

Lloyd is very composed and a great decision maker. Matty’s reaction time needs to sharpen up massively before having a run at Lloyd. Don’t know how you coach / develop better reaction time but unlock that and Matty might make it.

They are missing people. Maybe murdered as there was a lot of blood at one scene. On the national news. Every outlet.

Do not watch much television, other than a bit of sport.

Id read about the missing copper who was fond of tasering people.

Didn't seem that Taylor or Buckley was on Logan for much of the game though

Logan kicked all four on Leek Aleer, who looks pretty exciting as an offensive/intercepting defender but has a looong way to go in terms of his defensive skills.

Good to see Logan kicking well and active already in the year but I suspect he’ll be playing on much stiffer competition almost every other week this year. Would take yesterday with a grain of salt.
