PSD/Rookie Draft

If only we played Norf 22 times a year.

I'd be looking at Grimley over Gorringe and Daws (who's out of the picture with Norf re-rookieing him).

Kreuzer is our #1 ruck with Wood as his back-up/understudy.

Casboult is our #2 ruck/forward and Grimley would make a perfect understudy for him. Gorringe is questionable even at NEAFL level, and has been cursed with big man injuries.

Phillips is a speculative 'in case of emergency break glass and start crying' player who's going to spend a year at the Bullants.

Phillips will be more like the 2nd ruck, and depending on how the coach wants to line-up without the sub, could well be a permanent fixture alongside MK.
Wood will be a solid reserve again as per previous seasons and a good rotation if any of the rucks need a spell.

If we wanted a player like that, we would have just kept Warnock. Phillips, in the few highlights he has, shows a lot more than Warnock did.

Grimley would be specialist FF, if anything.

(We don't need a mature ruck with Woodie there)

And i'm sure Kreuzer will be pushing forward, so if we were to have him and Grimley in the forward line at the same time, that would be a seriously tall forward line

I've seen him at Preston and the NBs and St Kilda and he just isn't the answer to any of our issues. He's been tried over several years and although he may pop up with a handful of goals every now and then he just lacks consistency and class.
I say we give him another 7 years just to make sure!

Any interest in Sam Menegola? 23, 188cm mid who had a real solid year in the WAFL. Was at Hawthorn previous to Freo then delisted. BB may have some idea.

What ever happened to big red head that was at the NB? Conlon? Touted as a Top 10 before doing his knee a couple of years back and didn't get selected. That was a rookie project big if ever I saw one.

I played three senior games for Whittlesea in 1975. Doc Reid was a teammate.:straining:
So thats where he went after he left Preston... I got his autograph when he was still working at Panch

I see MK as the No.1 each week with Phillips & Wood alternating, depending on who we play and whether we go for the mobile Ruckman/FWD or a Tap Ruckman.
Also as insurance against injury to MK.

I don't expect to see Wood much again. He did an admirable job as first ruck when Warnock dropped off and Kreuzer was still in recovery.

But aside from a couple of games, Kreuzer and Wood didn't really click together. Wood just doesn't damage the opposition by getting enough footy around the ground when he's not on the ball.

Injuries will be the catalyst for who plays out of the rucks and that's where Wood's contract comes into play. Reserve ruck, and does an admirable job when called on.

I wouldn't be overly against Adcock. Probably has a good 2-3 years easy left in him. Chuck him at half back for leadership every now and then but play him mainly at half forward. Seems a good bloke off the field too.

HB: Dick - Plowman - Adcock

zac obrien is a real ball winner and worth a look. id consider gorringe as well. may be a late developer but has talent.
Was surprised ZoB didn't get more of a run - definitely a product of his relationship with Leppa. He seemed to play okay when he got a run at the top level, but he may be too much of a VFL player to truly be given a chance.

Would much rather an Adcock type for leadership and maturity - will have enough ball-winning mids with Curnow, Gibbs, Murph, Cripps and Graham running around. No use picking a guy up in PSD to play 2s exclusively - rookie list, maybe.

Ahh the memories....thanks Dramoth, just perked me up by jolting my childhood memories. My dad played for Mernda in the late 60's to early 70's and as a little tacker, I was a permanent fixture at their games, training and at the Mernda pub for my big glass of sarsaparilla afterwards. Also had a hernia operation in Panch when I was about 8 years old.....I am now 53. :(

Great memories.

I was born at PANCH, sadly now it is some student accommodation place. The Preaton and Northcote Community Hospital! :thumbsu:
