What's the record for receiving high free kicks in 1 game? We have become masters at drawing the high free. No one seems to have twigged yet aside from opposition players (they got stuck into us all game).

Good:
O'Brien. Has been playing really well recently. I don't like him as a player but have to give him credit.

Dawson one of the better games for the year. Why is he so bad at kicking goals on the run though? Misses almost every single one. Was rare to see him jag one today.

Rachele
Rankine
TT

Ah I couldn't be bothered with any more. Pretty shit game with some horrible turn overs.

I didn't even see him on the screen. Not sure if I just missed him, or he just couldn't get around the ball.
He was there.. playing wing quite a bit. Often though it was the opposite wing to where the game was going.

Curtin was in the same position a lot of the game where it was always happening the other side of the ground, but managed to work his way into it and make more of an impact.

Only by virtue of there only being a handful of good teams this year.
Just need one team to cop a run of injuries, or two good teams to end up on the same side of the finals draw and someone could Bradbury this flag
I don't bet on the Footy so I dunno what the odds are but there are 4 clear faves at this stage and 2 maybe's.
Collingwood, Brisbane (warming nicely into their season), the Suns, Hawks, then
Geelong and the Bulldogs, all of whom play better footy than us.

If I had to choose now, I'd predict a Collingwood Flag. They just find a way to get it done.

There have not been many Bradburys to win an AFL Flag in the last 30 years..
Us, from fifth spot in 1998 (NM had won 11 on the trot and were red-hot faves).
Maybe the Doggies in 2016 ...?

We won't be Flag contenders this year (for proof, look at our skill errors today against the worst side in the Comp),
plus Nicks lacks the tactical nous to win a PF let alone a GF.

Just got back from the game (OK it’s 8.30, via the Bridgewater) and thought id share a few impressions.

Good.

  • one of the best games I’ve ever seen ROB play, no idea what the stats say but the way he directed his taps, the little soccers forward and even his marking was first rate. Well done ROB.
  • our skipper might well be the best player in the comp. Huge call I know, but forward first, then midfield and even back late he was simply a class above. Awesome game.
  • Rachelle is a 10 year younger Toby Greene. He is clean, classy, individually brilliant yet so important to team structure and every possession is to a team mates advantage. Like Toby the question is do you use him forward or get him behind the ball or midfield. (Rankine is in the same boat btw).
  • Josh Worrell is quietly sneaking up on All Australian. So pleased for the lad, but he has every tool in the kitbag to be a real star.
  • Pedlar has the power and explosiveness to not only consolidate a spot but together with ANB, Keays, Rachelle and Rankine make our small forward brigade the best in the comp (our tall forwards already are).
  • if he can add consistancy to his kitbag then Berry has the game to help our midfield get to A grade level. He has added a yard of pace and he seems much cleaner than his previous times in the side.

Bad.

  • Goodness we have an ability to butcher great work and most of it comes from terrible kicking skills from some players, especially a few senior players. I personally don’t care how many touches Laird and Milera get if they can’t get close to hitting a target from 25 metres. They weren’t alone today by any stretch, but at this stage of their careers there is simply no excuses.
  • I love what Taylor does with ball in hand, and I realise that playing half forward is hard to show your wares from, however Rachelle, Pedlar and Keays showed that you can have a significant impact if you are good enough.
  • Soligo is I believe an A grade player, however he is clearly not coping with Rankine and Peatling coming into the engine room and playing explosively and taking a greater share of contested possession, so get him out to the wing or something to get confidence and some productivity back in his game. He’s too good to be a middling contributor.
  • while a lot of our work from our tall defenders was good, there is simply no excuse for an opposition tall marking unopposed close to goal from a slow build up, let alone it happening 5 times. I personally think Borlase is a much better footballer than Butts and don’t really understand that selection, and I also understand that while Keane is a star in the making he still has a lot to learn, but I will be very happy and relieved when Murray is back.
  • I personally don’t see why everyone wants Draper playing in the 1’s. I think he has every chance to be a great 250 game player for us, however he is simply not ready for the level. He needs 20 games of full midfield games at SANFL level to understand his trade. Some players are ready at 18, see Murphy Reid and Harvey Langford, but some take a year or 2 more. Judge them at the end of their careers and I will back Sid in.

Don’t know what to say.

Taylor Walkers dad told us today that Tex was told Tuesday that he wasn’t playing. Seriously, why the subterfuge? We were playing a bottom 2 side at home, I think being honest with your supporter group is OK in this instance.

Saw something Ive never seen before today. Curtin - or the guy on the outside wing, seems to have the job of ensuring that the 6 6 6 thing works. At each bounce, he looks right and left then signals that all is well to someone, probably Dawson.
That was Curtin. There is so much to like about this young gun. :thumbsu:

I think people might be underselling West Coast's 1st half. How often do we see a poorer side match it early with a better side before falling away later in the game as unable to maintain pressure and intensity?
They played the 1st quarter into the breeze really well, like Sturt did against our seconds this weekend. We had a lot of the play, but they made pinpoint passes and their forwards led in front when they were kicking into a sizeable wind. Just basic, smart football.

I think we were trying to avoid the media talk that we were resting Tex because we don't rate West Coast. Someone would claim it was disrespectful.

Your right though. We should just been honest.

We think we are more clever than we are.

I swear some people have subconscious bias about Sam.

His disposal is shit - 80% DE
Doesnt get enough outside, just a tackler - 20 UP
Doesnt hit the scoreboard - 1 goal, 7 Score Involvements
Too much like Crouch - nearly 500 metres gained.

Turn it up Scorpus
Totally agree, he’s not remotely like Crouch. His problem is that he fell off the planet for a year and a half. No idea if it was injury related but he lost the ability to find the footy and couple that with a fairly unexplosive type game, he became a likely bust. However with the new haircut he’s not only finding the pill but showing genuine burst speed and using it way better than I remember. Loving the new incarnation tbh.

He was given that opportunity last year.

Not saying he doesn't deserve another chance if in form, but he's not a kid any more. Soligo and Peatling have similar experience
This is his biggest opportunity to cement his place and I think if he can add some consistency to his game, he will be ok. Unfortunately our club screws up the sub every time and makes it almost impossible for the players to perform.
