ROB's marking has completely deserted him this year. Not sure what's gone wrong. Is the best feature of his game when he's up and going.

His actual ruckwork has been good.

His kicking has always been a weakness but has deteriorated to possibly the worst of any footballer who has ever played the game this year. Amazing that it could get worse from such an unbelievably low base.

And his efforts in link up handball play continue to be disastrous, as always. Why so many of our handball chains go through him is a mystery.

That still photo someone posted of his kicking action... my God. Doc - what have you been doing the last 6 years?

He shouldn't been losing his spot to Strachan but has played badly enough that he is. Needs an absolute rocket. Blight would have gone to town on him
To start like that means you won’t win. Particularly with a reprehensible effort from ROB in ruck.

Whats confusing? ROB had 5 hitouts to advantage by qtr time against Hawks. Strachan got 1 I think it was all game vs Tigers. Our mids need it served up to them on a silver platter
Lol. Tell me you didn't watch the hawks game without telling me

During our 0-4 start to the season, ROB took 4 marks total.

How on earth we tolerated that as a club is beyond belief.

Do we have any standards internally whatsoever? Any expectations on our senior players at all?

That abysmal standard was accepted and we infact picked him for almost two months after that.

The whole team was that bad though. And we didn't drop anyone

Anyone else feel like rushing Murray and Rankine back in is a mistake?

Sydney will belt us, why risk either of those 2 when the buy is next week?

Self-preservation at management level?

If we get belted this board will melt regardless of how young our team is, 17th or 18th youngest.

So will the media.

Nicks is desperate for a better team and doesn't want to get belted.

Why would bringing in 2 best 18 players be a mistake?

I'm sure it's not nice for Smith to see he's not wanted by supporters anymore, but the hatred expressed by supporters is not directed at him. It's squarely at the coaches and the selection panel.

He's been one of our better players for over a decade and has bled for the club. I have nothing but respect for him as a player and a person. But, he's been overtaken at this stage of his career and the writing has been on the wall for a long time.

As much as I wanted Brodie dropped, no one deserves to be outright abused on social media
It’s not actually Brodie’s fault, is it. Of course he’s going to want to play as much as can at the level. Anyone who thinks afl players will happily step aside for the betterment of the club is delusional. This is their career. Their dream. Their livelihood. People don’t step away from their jobs because the corporation they work for might be better off without them . They stay until tapped on the shoulder.

So, it’s the club’s fault for stubbornly selecting a cooked player.

Smith, if you’re reading, the anger is aimed at the club I would say. Thanks for what you’ve given the AFC. You were an absolute gun.

The hatred can get pretty centered on the actual player at times though, probably more so on official club social account posts than places like here. That stuff isn’t on.

Posted similar on X. Love the bloke, but the club should've made a statement before now and dropped him. I don't endorse personal abuse, however. I often think Smithers should've been played on the wing which seems a more natural role for him, as he's never been a great defender. I think I saw Jimmy Bartel saying we need to blood youth, and play them in the positions they were drafted for...likewise for the older players methinks!

It doesn't help when the coach publicly blames the players. Just leaves them open for abuse.

If players want to be remembered with respect and reverence they need to be brutally honest with themselves about their own performances, and not stick around too long.

At our club this never happens. They stick around, cost the team, put us in the position of paying for awful loss after awful loss, and wait for the calls for their removal to be overwhelming (and that usually takes a season to actually have impact).

Still the most obvious, pissweak bare minimum changes you can imagine.
Murray’s had, what, 2 weeks of footy? I see no reason why he shouldn’t have another week in the SANFL.

40 disposals 33 kicks 7 handballs, 16 marks, 5 contested, 16 r50's, 4 i50's, 8 tackles, countless spoils what is another week in the SANFL going to achieve exactly?
