I'm warming to the idea of Talia, Lever and Shaw (+ Cheney as a medium defender). Shaw's form in the SANFL has been good the past two weeks, if he continues to play well he deserves a spot.

I still don't think Shaw is great one on one, but if his form in the twos is good, he's worth a shot at AFL level again

Meanwhile Hartigan wasn't exactly awesome yesterday in the twos.

I think those three as your key backs offer you a lot of flexibility and athleticism.

I'm not anti-Hartigan and he had a great last fifteen games last year - but Shaw offers something really interesting at his height and mobility, now he seems to have full fitness.

Kicked a couple on Talia .....are you suggesting Hartigan would do a better job than Talia ?

Suggest the better strategy is to cut the supply ......but North were able to deliver non-pressured kicks to their forwards
How many goals per game did Hartigan have kicked on him last year....

Why did Talia play his best football last year with Hartigan in the side...

There is no need to give the opposition a competitive advantage when we don't have to!

I think there's a very real possibility of VB being dropped after that performance.

Mackay did nothing to deserve a demotion, it's just haters hating in here. Mackay wasn't in our bottom 6 worst performers last night and there's no way he should be dropped on that performance.

13 touches from a 150 game winger? Not a good night out for a guy with elite skills. But fair enough, he was possibly our 6th worst, which is basically his norm and exactly what we expect from him. The other 5 in that group were either debutants or had a shocker compared to their norm.

But Mackay gave us everything we could ask of him, so he deserves a bit of a thank you and I think posters should get off his back.

Considering Hartigan and Shaw are both out of the team, whoever plays better in the twos could be first in line to return. That said, Hartigan was preferred over the preseason period

I think there were 2 errors at selection. One was going a KPD short and the other was going one short in clearance mids. Either McGovern or Mackay should have made way for Lyons or CEY. Was a bad debut as the big banana at the selection table for Pyke. Outsmarted ourselves.

Maybe - we should have beaten a top four side yesterday. We had a ridiculous amount of chances to ice that game. The squad wasn't far wrong - personally, I agree with what you're saying about McGovern as I think we were too tall at one end and too short at the other. Clearance mids - we couldn't get M Crouch involved at enough contests (attended half his usual Centre bounces, according to CD) so adding another may not have helped much.

Can't we upgrade a nominated rookie before the season and still have Jaensch's LTI in the pocket to upgrade ROB if needed?
Depends on how many on your list IIRC ?

What about how prematch you were harping on about him being clearly best 22, he's not even on the bench!

You mean how i was harping on about him being best 22 because he was selected best 22 again by a 6th consecutive coach.

He wasn't named on the bench to start. I thought that bench players were an indicator of last players selected (like they were under previous regimes). I was wrong about that as Mackay obviously started on the Bench.

The funny thing though, is that even him starting on the bench - still means he is BEST 22.

Then he starts on the bench and gets limited game time.

And still performed better than 1/3 of our team despite less game time.

You also haven't responded to my posts on how you believe he will struggle to be best 22 this year. Thoughts?

Because its impossible to try and discuss things with you. You have an agenda and are more caught up with point scoring than actually discussing things.

I like Mackay as a player. I think he is still best 22 at Adelaide because we have an average list. This is something I have said for years. I don't think he is a great player (I do ham it up for a bit of fun), but he deserves to be in our middle of the road AFL lineup.

I believe that the club has identified him as a player who leveled out with regards to his performance and potential. They have recruited players that can hopefully take the next step and push him out of the side (Seed, Rat, Knight etc).

IF these players step up - then he will rightfully be out of the side and I will not shed a single tear, because it means we are a better side.

Given the likes of knight, CC, Menzel and Hampton were not available for senior selection, I couldn't care which two of VB, Mackay, CEY and Lyons play. Once those first 4 guys are ready to roll, none of the last 4 should be playing.

So Talia only plays well with Hartigan ....LMAO :p

Mackay's game last night was AFL standard. VB's was not.

I'm not suggesting that VB should be selected next week - just suggesting that Lyons and CEY are not the answer. I would like to see VB replaced by Knight.

Weren't you always a like for like fan? VB plays at half back,mKnight does not or are you suggesting structural change?

On Mackay, was he tagging? 13 touches from an experienced player is not AFL quality and certainly not improved on 2015. It's his norm, it's what gets his fans frothing at the mouth.

Worth noting Mackay played the least game time (67%) of the entire side. That's almost a full qtr and a half on the bench.

Mrouch about that too, which is a bit concerning. Need him to not just step up in the talent stakes, but also in game time. Can't leave it to Thommo's old legs all year.

Pretty sad when a performance like this is being heralded as a better game from an individual who is selected on his disposal and ball winning ability.

We've become so clouded by his shitness over the years that a bog standard performance is considered as 'one of his better efforts'.

Numbers like that from Milera give me great hope. Numbers like that from a bloke with 150 under the belt make me question how the hell he's made it this far.

No. Jaensch's LTI is the only vacancy we currently have available to us.

In order to have a nominated rookie, we would have had to go with 38 or 39 players on our senior list. We have 40. All clubs (including Adelaide) get a free nominated rookie option from R12 onwards.

Yeah, nah. Seen enough of Shaw to know that he's a liability. If Shaw is the answer, then you're asking the wrong question.

Perfect. Those protecting Mackay argue because those stats weren't the worst on the day there should be others in the firing line first. The fact is others don't consistently put in these efforts. Very very average.

I expect that he will.

He deserved to be picked round 1 (just)
He deserves to be dropped now. No reason to think selectors won't think the same way.

Jusr started taking an interest in selection this year I see. Check his b&f voting from the coaches. This is them rating performance, not us. He doesn't rate, still gets selected. I'm hopeful, but not expectant.

No, we're saying that most of the hatred being directed towards him is irrational. His form so far this year has been perfectly acceptable - in the MMC games and R1 of the H&A season. In none of those games has he been remotely close to our worst player, yet because he's a 150 game player anything less than 85 disposals is deemed to be unacceptable.

Mackay's performance last night was about average. It wasn't one of his better games, nor was it one of his worst.

I disagree, it was one of his better games!

Saw him play in the MMC. To say he was awful would be a massive understatement.
Shaw had half a game in total in the NAB cup.

I have seen him play 2 full SANFL games and he has been outstanding really. Excellent disposal as well which always was his weakness. Definitely wouldn't object to his inclusion. Has pace, size and agility over Cheney.
