Can someone tell me why we went with 4 guys 6 foot 4 or more forward and only 2 in our back 6 last night. I actually love the look of McGovern but his selection totally unbalanced us and I think took Lynch out of the game somewhat. You don't want to make too many changes after one game, especially as there were some great signs, but I think they have to address some glaring errors from last weeks selection.

- Cameron for McGovern.
- Hartigan for Cheney
- Knight for VB

Then probably our traveling emergency (Ironic he got more game time when we still had the vest).

- Lyons for Mackay (Sloane to his wing and Lyons into the midfield).

Atkins and Milera didn't get much of it but what they did looked classy and I would love them both to get 5 games to get a really good feel for the level.
Agree with this. Definitely have to bring in another tall defender and we only need one of Lynch or McGovern up forward. Id keep Cheney though, adds versatility.

Hartigan for McGovern
Knight for McKay
Henderson for VB.

Wouldn't mind seeing how McGovern would go at HB in the SANFL. I think Cameron needs another week in the SANFL too. If he comes in, I think its for Milera.

McGovern didn't unbalance our forward line as he is quick & makes many tackles like cc.

However, I agree we were a tall defender short with Hartigan not playing. Doubt Waite would have kicked as many goals on Hartigan.

I obviously need to watch the replay. Rat I thought was ok, got it 18 times which isn't bad for a kid. 150 game star Mackay got it 5 times less.
Rat was ok. Got plenty of the ball, just not as damaging as using the ball as normal. Looks fitter than last year. Got plenty of contested ball, but I would like him getting more uncontested. Same with the seed. We should be feeding our quality outside ball users.

Be interesting to watch the Port/Saints game today. They've gone in with Geary, Dempster, Roberton, Webster, Fisher and Newnes as their back 6. Fisher and Dempster are 191cm, Roberton is 194cm, but he doesn't really play like a key defender and Geary, Webster and Newnes are between 182cm-188cm. We'd have Talia (196cm), Lever (194cm) and Cheney (187cm) which is slightly taller than what the Saints are going in with with their key backs.

Think you are confusing McGovern with his brother Jeremy. Mitch has played nearly all his footy as a forward & can't see any reason why this would change. May become a swingman later.

With our draw, there's no opportunity to rest players for easy games this year. We have to make sure of them.

I think this is important to understand. We don't have a break that is against the lower teams to make drastic changes. Personally I would persevere with the younger players like Brouch, Milera and McGovern. Its the older players that are not performing that need to be moved aside. This means VB and MacKay need to go back to the SANFL. One of Hartigan/Shaw/Ottens should to replace VB and either Lyons or Knights to replace MacKay. Should Mrouch get suspended I woud call on CEY to replace him.

I wouldn't make any other changes at this stage. I know that we have Cameron and Menzel but I would not bring them in at the expense of Milera....not yet anyway.

At least B. Crouch and Shooter have talent

DMac and VB have been shit for years and I'm gobsmacked that we still have supporters that are prepared to play them in front of young talent

Yep that's why we have won **** all in 20 years

To be fair to NTRabbit , both Mackay and VB delivered exactly what he expected of them. If it was a young kid it wouldn't be good enough but because they provide experience he rejoices in their performances.

Cameron is unlikely IMO. He was a bit fumbly yesterday, although he tried hard. He's never had the biggest tank so probably needs another game in the SANFL.

It's funny how people see things differently. I thought his hands were pretty good. His problem is he hits the contest/ball with such speed that he seems to leave the ball behind. But on at least two occasions I saw, he was able to gain control and set up our attack.

No, I know he's not his brother. I just think we need a tall, hard at it, marking defender more than another forward and I have Lynch well ahead of him. I don't think we have room for both. IMO he might have to change to have a place in our first 22.

Showdown related question but not on selection. I am coming down for this game (my first at Adelaide Oval). Does anyone know if our SANFL team play a curtain raiser before the game?

They're playing in Mannum.

They will get slaughtered because they're a developing side (aka their midfield is crap) and their defence in particular is filled with mediocre players

Looking at the long term temp for the game on Saturday, it is predicted to be 29 degrees:thumbsdown:

That is going to be a tough slog if it doesn't change.

Cameron wasn't prolific but whenever he got near it he was a class above. His intensity and pace caused several turnovers and goals. If we are serious he and Knight have to play.

I think we match up on their forwards reletively well.

Hartigan v Dixon
Talia v Schultz
Lever v Westhoff
Laird v Gray
Brown v Wingard

Gray is the main issue in their forwardline. You see it today against St Kilda at the moment. I would use Rory as I believe he''s got the over head ability and physicality to match up on Robbie
