In the SANFL
Ricky Henderson (25 possessions, 11 marks) oozed class across half-back in his first game of the year returning from a pre-season back injury.

Would be a good replacement for VB.

And while Milera looks class there is not enough output from him.... I think Beech

Barely six months after playing in West Adelaide’s premiership triumph last September, Beech played a starring role in Adelaide’s crushing 74-point Round One win over the Bloods at City Mazda Stadium.

The 25-year-old amassed 25 possessions and 10 marks against his former club in an outstanding debut performance in Crows colours. Beech began the match on a wing and pushed forward regularly, slotting three goals and notching five inside 50ms.

I thought Mackay had a serviceable game and should go again.

He's a rookie and would need to be upgraded before he can play

We're a bit limited with our defence.

We don't have many players who can defend in the air, defend on the ground plus provide some attacking rebound. All our players are either/or defenders.

Doedee can ................ when he's ready for AFL

Henderson certainly isn't a rookie but he might have been on the long term injury list. Surely he would be available or could be made to be available.

Opps....I think you were talking about Beech. Not sure where he stands.

So long as milera picks up their weaker forward like neade & not guns like wingard & Gray. We have Brown & Laird for them... Yet we didn't use them to lock down Harvey!

 I don't really know what our team defence style embraces, however, I am convinced that if it is not complimented with a lock-down role targeting a certain type of opposition matchwinner (such as Harvey, and this week Wingard & Gray), then we will get smashed in the showdown.
IMO Corralling/playing in the spaces does not work with Wingard, Harvey and in fact plays right into their hands.
Will be extremely disappointed if we allow him to run loose and cut us up.

I'm going to set my standards low for Thursday night in case the selection committee have another bad night. Not going to assume VB will be dropped.

VB wont be dropped. In the selection committee's eyes he has had "just one bad game" for the year.:rolleyes:

This is how we roll.

I wouldn't be surprised if we go in unchanged.

Most posters on here come Thursday night...........

Outs: Milera

Ins: Knight

Mackay had an ok game so he stays.

VB stays because whatever he brings to the side must be incredibly important to offset everything bad he does, and if what he brings is that important, then surely we can't win without it.

We were too young, but can't drop new kids after one game. Dropping experience is not smart when we are too young already.

Suggest changes driven by matchups not form. If Henderson onto Westoff for example, no idea who he would replace though.

Even though if that experience is shit?

What actually is experience?

To me it's being able to do the right thing at the right time whilst under pressure.

Having experienced players do this gives confidence to those around them. They provide stability, calm other players. Have a steadying influence when the game is tense.

Experience is NOT just games played.

Van Berlo should definitely be dropped. Regardless of his experience, he's probably the least composed footballer we have right now.

Does anyone know why James Kelly or Steve Johnson even Matthew Stokes were tapped on the shoulder even though they probably had another year left?
Because this is what ruthless clubs do, you need to keep blooding new talent if you want goals for the future.
Lake could also have gone on for another year.

I don't know how our club refuses to do this, is it because VB is only 29? We don't have a goal in mind, that's the only thing it comes down to, the succession planning at the club doesn't seem to exist. Somebody needs to do something about it, it could get nasty if VB continues on in the 1s, we could go 0-8. You can't carry players anymore.

It was in response to a question that already conceded our midfield were getting beaten. Is this you Neil , no Plan B?

happy for plan B, but perhaps it might involve a change to our midfield set up or personnel rather than expecting our flankers to ignore their role and cover for others. Obviously at times flankers will be deployed to stoppages, but expecting them to cover their opponents and make up for our mids doesn't seem feasible to me.

Am still shocked that Hartigan didn't play... I didn't understand it Thursday evening when he wasn't named and sure as hell couldn't understand it watching the game on Saturday night...

Anyhow, surely he comes in this week. Would also love to see Knight and Menzel come in for those who shall not be named... I can't even bring myself to anymore. It's both boring and frustrating venting about how they are not quite up to standard...

Am still pretty bullish about this year. I though North were good and we were pretty average, so to run them so close away from home is relatively pleasing I suppose. We can win the next two to get our season up and running... Easy.

I'm not sure Hartigan will return. It would be admitting that they got the structure wrong and I doubt they'll shelve it after one game. VB and Mackay both likely to remain as well. There summer would have been too good to be dropped after just one poor game.

Hartigan will come in, this is a bookmark for me likely for McGovern. The Power forwards will just monster us otherwise. Especially if Westhoff plays forward.

Cheney being rag-dolled one on one is going to happen if he is isolated one on one.

This is my concern. Which means we need to lose to see the back of these guys. We win and the lineup remains unchanged (except for the young guys who might get a rest).
