I'm fine with Van berlo out, but bringing Hartigan in is pretty clearly a panic move. Bolstering the defence when it was our demonstrably weak midfield that caused the loss isn't really a step forward.

We'll be seeing two bottom 10 sides playing off for little more than pride Saturday afternoon.
Yeah it's clearly a panic move to play 3 key defenders against 3 key forwards, who would have thought that would ever happen.

Unless we recruit midfielders to play tomorrow that's not going to change this year but Knight will come in soon.

And the real positive is Brad gets another game to play with his brother, you must be thrilled.

To everyone I argued with;

I was wrong - you all were right!

I apologise :)
just one thing, what happens if we get belted this week? Just hold your fire on the apology, this second mode hasn't been tested yet. If we look heaps better this week, then yes, you (and me) will have to admit our errors :D

Our midfield is clearly one of the lesser.

The test will be how many goals their key forwards kick

It's not going to change this season no, but I'd rather we spend the year with the right defenders playing the preferred setup and learning it going forward, leaving the midfield to stand on their own, and find out definitively who can, and who can't, instead of rushing to find stopgaps that minimise the impact of the weak midfield on results, knowing full well that the title cannot be won that way.

If we're going to have another losing season, let's at least make sure it's an actual learning experience, and with good draft picks at the end, rather than a press conference "learning experience".

It goes to show that Pyke won't accept mediocrity and thank god for that. It took him one game to pull the trigger on an ex captain and a player from the leadership group.

Pyke plays golf off scratch doesn't he? Yeah... He won't be accepting mediocrity that's for sure.
Assistant coaches are probably on notice too, looking at you Clarke.

Lol, panic move to fix a structural deficiency?!

The midfield is more a performance issue that some of our players need to lift their game. I'd they don't, we have players like knight, cc, etc who will replace them when fully fit.

But 3 key defenders on 3 key forwards is the right set up, it always has been.

And I hope the idea of Eddie's experiment playing on the ball and high forward are a thing of the past...naming him in the forward pocket is permanent I hope, play him close to Tex and Jerka who can knock off the campaigners that try to rough him up...not too mention it's where he can do the most damage!!
