Wasn't Gibson on Tex in our 2012 prelim?

While Schoenmakers struggled with our #1 key forward Kurt Tippett, yes.

And Otten was on Roughead, since Talia broke his arm against Sydney, and Shaw pulled a hamstring against Fremantle.

Yeah, this was my point last week and still my worry.

I guess Seedsman can push back, and Lever/Cheney/Brown need to be proactive with attacking moves.
If we play 6 defenders which I hope we do, it will be:

Brown Talia Lever
Smith Hartigan Laird

I imagine Cheney will be used to give the bigger boys a chop out and we won't have all 4 on the field too often.

Wut. Why do you place things in your comments that aren't anything to do with the original statement?

You asked me to.

Wut. You take a lot out of that that isn't designed for what I was saying but more for something you want to get across. Ask me some more questions and let's manufacture something else for you to manipulate.

So Gibson played as a key position defender.

We might rotate our tall defenders, so they can jump into them and keep it physical all afternoon. Plus Cheney going third up a lot.

What part of every post have you not been reading? Hawthorn have used him to play on KPFs quite often due to lack of alternatives, but that has never made him a KPD. He's a third tall who was better at playing above his height than anyone else Hawthorn had, that's all. As soon as they had two actual KPDs to use, he was always straight into his actual position.

We've used Andy Otten as a short handed KPF before, but lining up there never actually made him one.

Gibson always played on mobile key forwards, becoming famous for the jobs be used to do on Buddy when playing for North.

It's just not true to say he doesn't play a key post; he's an elite interceptor but has the althleticism to stay close 1 on 1 and compete on the ground. An excellent player, all round, who does a lot more than 3rd man up

Of course we are. Better structure and we've gotten rid of the most out of form bloke that has ever gotten consistent games.
So first round one out of two. It's a start. Rather the road short than long.

Praise the lord Hartigan is back!

Awful selection last week and I'm still pissed that we handicapped ourselves for no reason. Very promising however the Pyke wasn't too proud to put his hand up and make it right. That combined with the obvious call on VB - which still no doubt wasn't easy and the faith in the 2 debutants makes me warm and fuzzy about the track we are on.

Those emails to Pyke and Noble obviously paid off :D

It's what I was thinking. Late in the 4th Port were able to get their forwards 1-1 a bit. If they happens again, hopefully we can have someone like Cheney around who can tip the odds in our favour.

Maybe Cheney to get the job all day on Wingard? Seems a good match up in the air. Hartigan to Shultz, Talia to Dixon, Lever to the hoff when he plays deep, Brown on a Neade/Gray type when forward, Laird/Seed/Smith to rebound.

Would have been nice if we could have replaced VB with someone that can kick.
VB and Hartigan aren't going to play the same spot though. Hartigan will look for the easiest option, and will hit it most times. He has gotten better and he usually works within him limitations in that regard. Cheney is another that's solid and usually works within his skill limitations when kicking too. They won't be super lethal, but if they can get it into the hands of guys who are like Smith and Seedsman back there, that will be good.

Really feel like this is judgement day for the selectors. I know it's only round 2 but oh boy I reckon this is a big indicator of where there thinking is at.

I liked the boldness of picking guys like McGovern and Milera, we'll see if they can keep the faith.

Well thank **** for that. Sanity prevails, a rare occurrence amongst our selection panel.

Very, very happy with these changes.

We generated enough run and carry as it was with VB contributing two tenths of **** all to our gameplan. So why not replace with someone who will help fix a department we were heavily exposed in last week.

Can live with Mackay in for another week as others build on their fitness. This is a great sign from the club. I wonder how much say Pyke had on this shock selection? Because this is so unlike anything out selection panel has done before, to react to a glaring deficiency so quickly, normally it takes us about 3 months to open our eyes.

Richmond is going to be interesting next week. A big possibility they are still missing Lids, Maric and Edwards, with Knight, Cameron and Menzel primed to come in!
