Johnno was awful yesterday, but I would give him another try, due to lack of choices.

Johnno to the backline, Blakely to the midfield, Hamling forward to Alex Rance, Nyhuis forward. Mundy must be forward.

This only gives 6 defenders, Pearce, Johnno, Duman, Wilson, Ryan and Hill. If we want a plus 1, I don't know. Tucker is an option, but I like him as a high half forward. He is exquisite around goals, if we can get the ball to him.

For the second ruck, as Richmond usually ruck Grigg I think, maybe a bit of Nyhuis as he is only 2 cm shorter, somewhat heavier, and seems to have a strong, hard body.

Poor Johnson.

Bloke’s been an amazing servant but he’s turning 34 and he doesn’t have the tank Pav and McPharlin had to make it to that playing age (in fact Pav played a poor year in his last).

I can understand the intention to keep him another year to provide leadership but the defence is sorted now. Logue, Hughes and couple of others not in the squad would probably be ahead of him at this stage.

Think he’s getting dropped this weekend

Don’t think Johnson has a role down back. Richmond only play the 1 tall, I don’t want Johnson anywhere near a Higgins/Lambert type.

If the only way he gets a game is if Hamling goes forward then just drop the bloke. Bring in an actual KPF.

Out: Son Son, Johnno
In: Hughes, Nyhuis

Hughes defensive fwd on Rance
Nyhuis hopefully a few goals

AP on Riewoldt, Hamling on Martin when fwd or Caddy
Their smalls are a worry though...

Richmond’s smalls will make Johnson look like an absolute clown shoes

I think we lack pace with our mids. Fyfe,Neale,Mundy , Brayshaw are not quick. S Hill has the pace, can play inside or out and has A class disposal. S Hill to midfield. Connor could do the mid role as well but his work and run in defence has been first class. Hughes and Nyhuis in . Johnson and Sonny out. Nyhuis plays well on the small forwards and can pinch hit forward.
It would take some big arse balls by the match committee but Bennell in to play 60% game time in the forward pocket to replace Sonny . Wont happen but one can dream.

The only issue with OUT:MJ is that if he's out then it has to be Alex Pearce filling in with the ruck work. I said it last week and I'll say it again, give Nads a go.

Nads or Cox, would be happy with either. Accidental double entendre is accidental

Bring in Nyhuis.. he has the X factor
Funnily enough, despite his awesome debut, I don’t think Nyhuis has x-factor at all. After seeing him at Peel a couple of dozen times, I see him as a solid lock down back pocket (nick smith type) or a defensive forward (like his job in Tarrant when debuting). X factor comes from Switowski, Giro and Bennell yet they are all about 3-4weeks away from afl.

The only times I have seen Nyhuis play is at Freo late last year. He didn't seem to have a lot of pace? But then, if you are playing a lock down role, you must have some, right?

I like your thinking, but knowing Ross, Kersten will be the one returning.
Hopefully the next Derby we have Darcy available, or Strnadica, Apeness have form.
WC play two rucks, doesn't seem to make them too slow, NN gave them silver service.

We looked slow due to losing the ruck contest, poor Sandi having to deal with two genuine ruckman. Next time we
need to play an aggressive ruck, Darcy or Ape fit the description.
I really don't see why Connor isn't playing midfield with Hughes, Nyhius available.
The other problem is breaking the tag of Yeo, for me either Banfield, or if fit Grey would play the next Derby, we won't
beat them playing bruise free footy.
Definately need more Hills in the midfield rotations.

Out: Sandi (rest) Walters (knee), Johnno

In: Apeness, Hughes, Cox

I feel sure at the beginning of the year, Sandi would have been pencilled in for a rest this game.

If that was still to happen, you would think Meek or Jones would be ahead of Apeness or Strnadica. If only on fitness.

If both Sandi and Johnson were to come out (highly unlikely) then it could be one of Meek/Jones and one of Apeness/Strnadica.

I think we need AFL ready bodies. Not the game to debut someone.

Hughes IMO. Reshuffle a defender forward. Either A.Pearce or Hamling.

We need to win the Saints game at home. If we can hit the bye 5 wins and 6 losses. We could come home with a wet sail. There isn’t a game after the bye which looks unwinnable. Maybe Geelong in Geelong. Though we should of won it last year.

Probably won't happen, and it'd make a lot of people nervous if it did, but Hamling could play on Reiwoldt and Pearce could play on Rance.

We have nothing to lose with that scenario. Hamling should be able to hold Reiwoldt and Pearce, if not required in the backline, may well give us a target in attack and be able to hold Rance accountable at the same time.

Re; Johnson - This year he has been pretty decent if you take R1 and R6 out of the equation, and really he's only had one bad game since R1 everyone was poor. He's obviously a bit slower but his work in other games were still a bit underrated now that I look back at them.

I actually feel bad for him. He's in a pretty bad situation in that he was called up to do a role that is well and truly above his physical capabilities now (So can he be blamed for the expectations the club had on him?) and the back-line is stacked so you can't really drop one of Duman, Hamling or Pearce for him. In my opinion we shouldn't swing any of those guys forward either.

Do we just bring in one of Strads / Ape / Meek / Kersten for Walters and don't push Johnson into the ruck and limit him to his own area on the ground (Forward)?

For small forward lines, do we just put one of them down forward as a more threatening and presenting marking target and put Johnson down back?

I feel like Blakley / Tucker / Langdon Etc 2017/18 situation is going to present itself, where there's a lot of unnecessary mucking around in positions to compensate the older or dud players being able to fit in - and this annoyed the hell out of me.

He's been a great servant but gee - when the Injuries begin to clear up on our list Johnson's games from here are going to be numbered unfortunately.

Interesting Ross never mentions Strnadica and he's not been an emergency either. Suggests they don't think he's ready or don't rate him.
I think Blakely has to go into the midfield, Hughes would be ideal to replace him. Mundy to play mostly forward.
And screw being conservative. If Bennell can play, play him as a forward.
North is one that will come in as soon as he's fit enough to play. You can tell Ross really likes him and I'm curious to see what he brings.
I think MJ has to go but I don't think Ross is flexible enough to make decisions like this yet. He will probably keep playing him all year along with Ballantyne and it wouldn't surprise me to see Spurr come back as soon as he's fit. I think Lyon is making all the right noises but still can't quite believe he's not better off playing experienced players.

To be honest I reckon bring in some 'outcasts' for this match. D.Pearce, Sheridan, Sutcliffe, etc. Our young players could use the rest as well as Sandilands. Play Cox and Hughes as well.

Richmond are in top form at the moment and I don't see anyway we compete in this one. Hate saying that.

In most peoples eyes Spurr is pretty much finished, if Nyhius hasn't replaced him yet, then he will also get the
Strnadica treatment.
What i don't understand is that Spurr is a lock down defender the same as Nyhius, but Ryan can play forward.
Our defense needs both Hughes, Nyhius available to help Wilson, Ryan take the game on.

Don't think Grigg would put us to the sword as a second ruckman if we dropped MJ the way Lycett did against Johnson. Banfield seems the type of player who could contest Grigg.
