No, passengers don’t do nothing, they do nowhere near enough. A couple of good moments over 4 quarters of football doesn’t move someone out of passenger category. I’m not blaming Curtin, he did the best he could with the conditioning he had. He just shouldn’t have been selected.

I agree completely that he shouldn't have been selected, as my posting will have indicated.

However, he wasn't a "passenger". I would agree that he was up until about halfway through the third, but from then on, he advanced himself to a "normal" Curtin game for the rest of it, including some critical plays helping the win.

This was significantly better than I had expected, and it now looks like a much more reasonable selection than originally.

Nope was lucky to get 3 days off when my grandfather passed away.

i really hope you realise the not too subtle differences with a sudden and shocking unexpected suicide of a brother with a wife and new baby and a (likely) old age grand parent where passing away is to be reasonably expected.

just totally chalk and cheese and not sure why anyone is trying to compare the situations.

They’re comparable because employment law is fixed. Ordinary workplaces are required to provide 2 days paid bereavement leave. Anything else comes from other leave accruals. That’s the real world that almost all of us work in.

Of course I agree with this. As I posted earlier, comparing ordinary business to pro sport is folly. But a poster brought up their own experience, so that’s the progression of the discussion. I agree with bullying in certain environments like the armed forces. I don’t think anyone should apply normal workplace expectations/laws to environments that aren’t normal.

The grief won’t go away for a long time, if ever, but now the funeral is over, I imagine they will now deal with this as a family is a private way.

I think he will be back at the club tomorrow and will play vs Richmond.

That void is real. Prior to the funeral there’s focus, plus there’s lots of support from family/friends etc. then the funeral happens and everyone comes together and then nothing, mostly we all go back to our lives. thanks for sharing mate. and hard not to think with dawson such a great guy and natural leader, that he wont feel especially responsible for helping his sister in law thru a very hard period over coming months. if we are being honest, we may not see the best of him playing this year as he has competing priorities in life. the fact he was so amazing vs lions is testament to the man but no guarantee he can continue at this level. and i am confident the footy world and supporter base would understand this
