Dunno how Scullion is catching up on all of this...today...today....there have been 3 inquiries into what has been happening in the NT...how can you not be all over this as Minister.

And the NT Minister for Corrections has been sacked....thats good...but still is the Attorney General up there....ffs.

True Detective Season 1.

One excellent episode of Season 2 doesn't count.

Sopranos was the Godfather of all of these.

The 80's actually sowed the seeds...Hill St Blues...St Elsewhere..Miami Vice...LA Law...Moonlighting...all shattered the mould of what tv should be.
I would nominate Miami Vice to be added to that list of groundbreaking '80s shows

And his minister...

Wow, what a shithead.

I guess if it doesn't involve finishing off the boongs so we can mine the joint without paying them (or the rest of us for that matter) any reasonable royalties then its not in his job description.

Outside of last night has anything come to light about his offences out of jail?

Has he ever been out of jail?

And if he is released...he needs intensive assistance.

Apparently he's a bit of a prick. (Voller that is.) He was locked up for an aggravated assault. Him and two other guys beat a guy unconscious then nicked his wallet in Alice Springs. Probably had a meth/ice habit.

There was a link to a case where his co accused was sentenced in the comment of one of GR's twitter links. Apparantly locked up since 11. I knew a guy like that. Locked up since 12 in Melbourne at Turana. He made no 3 on that show Australia's most wanted.

You wouldn't want to get on his wrong side I spose but he was ok. Could fight like a machine, for a skinny guy 5 foot 8. Was very smart but didn't have a great education.

If he hadn't grown up in a "criminal" family and been targeted by cops from a young age he would have turned out alright. Sometimes I think cops and some people in juvenile justice do what they do to ensure there will be more work in a decade. got to keep the criminal types angry and violently resistent of authority.

I've probably said this before but has anyone ever seen "Ghosts ... of The Civil Dead"?

Yep.

Two words.

Forehead.

Escalator.

There in lies the issue.

Product of the violence or not?

And his minister...

What he said was bad, but very selective reporting by the media making it sound far worse than what I believe he actually meant.

He didn't say he didn't care.

For those who take the minute or two to listen to the full quote he says that he doesn't know why he wasn't made aware of the footage, the footage had never been made known to him and the footage hadn't been available to him to "pique his interest sufficiently", then going on to thank the media for putting the vision out there so that changes could be made.

Was an extremely poor choice of words which did not get across the point that was attempting to be made.

Without knowing I'd say yeah. Also locking kids up is violence in its way. Their loss of freedom is ultimately backed by the state's use of violence.

Alice is a weird, violent town too. I've got a good mate who grew up in Alice and when he gets together with his old pals its all fight club on the deck after a few beers. That's fine when you're a kid but not in your 40s.

Violence in rural communities, especially indigenous communities and poor white communities is epidemic. There's violence on the street, at home, from the cops who are probably out of their depth anyway.

In parts of Australia cops are referred to as "the bullyman".

Scullion is a lying piece of shit and this is only the latest of his **** ups.

The month before he lied about remote community members on welfare being unable to buy food because the cut off rate for people in those communities was higher than the rest of the country. Specifically more people in remote indigenous communities have been cut off the dole for missing work for the dole programs or interviews (many of which don't function anyway) than the rest of the country.

According to some reports since January when these rules were tightened, food sales, especially of fresh food like meat and veg and important food like baby formula and baby foods had dropped by 20% and there was a direct correlation between when the rates of sales in certain NT food stores dropped and when the more punative punishment regime started. The government were warned the CDP wouldn't work years ago when it started it.
