Agreed with the analysis, there were a lot of other things going for us but I think it's relatively safe to say that our best defence combo is Grima, Thompson, Firrito and McMahon. I'm trying to see if there was another combo (other than Petrie/Tarrant/Hansen) that worked well up forward.

So we played both Goldstein and McIntosh 5 times - for wins vs Geelong & GWS and losses to Essendon, Sydney and the Dogs.

McIntosh was played rounds 5 & 6 by himself (6 had Pedo)

Goldstein was played rounds 8 onwards by himself - 3 poor rounds then our great run of form. Those 3 poor rounds had Pedo & Warren, Edwards & Black and Edwards & Black as the others to Petrie.

Round 7-we played Petrie, Edwards, McIntosh, Goldstein, Thompson, L.Delaney, C.Delaney and Firrito...
Round 8-we played Petrie, Warren, Pedersen, Goldstein, Thompson, L.Delaney, C.Delaney, Grima and Firrito
Round 10-we played Petrie, Edwards, Black, Goldstein, Thompson, L.Delaney, C.Delaney, Grima and Firrito

Fair to say when we had a smaller marking target in the team (like Edwards, Warren or Black), combined with our big backline, we struggled. I think Petrie, Tarrant and Hansen work so well because 1 or 2 can make space for the other by running up the ground and being a link from defence to forward.

Our best key position team from 2012 statistics:
B: McMahon, Grima
HB: Firrito, Thompson

HF: ......., Hansen
F: Tarrant, Petrie
Ruck: Goldstein

Place in a few (currently) flankers (Thomas, Harper, Adams, Atley etc) and combination of inside/outside mids (Wells, Swallow, Ziebell, Cunnington etc) and that will be our no.1 team for round 1 2013

Pretty hard for the opposition to expose the smallish backline when they are worried about Clarke or Shaw playing on Hansen from the goal square or Petrie monstering someone.

If Goldy holds up and the midfeld at least breaks even then Scott has a tactical advantage.

I can handle not being as good, and I can handle losing.

What I can't handle:

1. Shit decisions by selectors;
2. Shit decisions from administrators;
3. A failure to learn from previous shit decisions.

Cricket is incredibly simple but too often gets ****ed with by idiots.
