Its line ball.....given both are fully fit I wouldnt mind losing the toss. Perhaps Frawley has his nose in front but there isnt much in it. Brown probably has more creative ability and certainly a much more likely forward option.

You just lost me there, all credability is gone.

Frawley is an AA player and Brown had a couple of good games. To say Frawley perhaps has his nose in front is laughable.

Hurley just shades Reid now, purely because I think Hurley is a match-winner. Reid is an outstanding defender, but I'd rather a gun CHF, than a gun CHB...

Watts is third now (clearly IMO), and I think will possibly overtake Reid as his career progresses, but who knows. Started to show some real signs this year, expect a big year this year...

Henderson is good as a defender, but the jury is definitely still out on him in that possie. Didn't really cut it as a forward, so it's either as a defender, or bust, for Hendo. Expect he would finish in 4th on this list by retirement age too...

I know drafting is easy in hindsight but how did The Saints miss these 2 guys?

They both have obvious and strong family ties to St Kilda. Yet they went for Dave Armytige at 9 and let both these slip to 12 and 13.

If i remember correctly Riewoldt was perhaps not considered a top 10er at the time but surely they should have pounced on Frawley.

Honestly, at the time the general consensus was that both players went far too high based on their names. Daniher and Wallace were both starting to lose "it" as coaches, and many suspected they were signing Jack and James based on name. St Kilda probably thought at least one would be available in round 2 or even 3 in the draft.

In hindsight, well yeah, they both turned out pretty good.

Hindsight is so much easier..

Selwood went @7, and I dare say all 6 teams that picked before that would be happy to swap whoever they took for him now (although publically, some of them, and their fans, might dispute this).

Thorpe @6 played in the same junior team as Jack Reiwoldt, so the Hawks presumably saw heaps of both of them.

Recruiters take their picks from what they've seen at the time, they can't see the future, so they work out the odds, lay their bets and pray. The better recruitment departments are right more often, but none of them are right all the time.

Frawley is clearly the better player, Browny's had a very shakey carrer so far. He burst onto the scene in 2008, before loosing form, but just as he was starting to regain the 2008 form in the 2010 finals his 2011 season was derailed by his knee injury. I would also say Brown isn't that creative as a backmen, that's why I think he complements Reid so well. Brown takes the huge gorilla forwards and is a more "traditional" fullback and is probably the better body on body player. Reid is much better at reading the play and as he showed this year gives great drive with rebounding marks and his long left foot.

Thanks for confirming that Brown did in fact perform poorly after his 2008 season. If Timmy opens his other eye he will see it also.

I agree with MB actually. He is being underrated by many in this thread. I put Hendo fourth myself, but it's not his placing among the other players that sees him being underrated for mine, it's the comments posters have been making about him.

An example of the point that perhaps you will better connect with - I wouldn't be ranking Dawes alongside either of those players, but does that mean he doesn't cut it as a forward?

Sadly it doesn't work like that, Henderson simply isn't in the class of a Ben Reid or Hurley.

I was talking about public perception, and its my fault for not clarifying that.

No Melbourne fans had real faith in Daniher at that point. Well, maybe a few but it wasn't widespread. How did YOU feel about Frawls at the time?

Truth is he had a good season in 2008, struggled for form and consistency after that, started to come good in 2010, then did his knee.

As the Collingwood poster says, he isn't close to Frawley.

Now instead of personal insults can you provide some sort of evidence to dispute the above?
