If Wagner was the one planned to be pulled out, perhaps he was keeping someone quiet and part of why they tore us apart in the fourth was that his man was now free to get involved in everything? I wasn't looking for a direct matchup so I don't know if he was on someone specific.

It looked like our team defense fell away at the end of the game.

He has struggled with nervous starts for years. Has admitted it and that he gets help for it. Massive liability in big games.

His kicking is terrible and has been for a long time. Add to that an inability to get through a season without injury.

Cant be captain

Yeah and not allowing uncontested marks in their back half.
Our kicking for goal and giving away free kicks for goal doomed us.
Was Voss too focused on trying to play like a back man on Andrews instead of being creative? Voss giving away frees instead of the other way around.

If I have to hear Gary ****ing Lyon take the reins as lead commentator once more then Fox can get ****ed. He harps on about 1 missed Erasmus kick for about 5 ****ing minutes when there was a plethora of things to talk about and absolutely savages the kid. I feel so sorry for Hudson, Simmo, Pav and Kath for dealing with that dick bag’s special comments the entire night.

This might have been more suited for the vent thread. But it was the worst bit of commentary I’ve heard for some time.

I think it was like the cats game, where we had to open up the game to try and win it. That exposes you if you turn it over you take the risk of a skilful team like cats and lions to slice and dice through like hot knife through butter.

Subbing Wagner looked like a planned move pre game and JL stuck with it.

Which seemed at odds against what was happening in the game considering all the other options of no impact or negative impact players and Wagner was going ok. I assume it was about managing minutes but it didn’t look like the right call.

Said the last month had the makings of our record being better than it should be and a reality check could be coming...

Sigh, just utterly deflating, bad kicking is bad football and its a different game kicking straight that first half. Critical mass of not just poor but completely horrible performances at once.

Jackson and Bolton, worst games for the club (by some way Id say), Banfied terrible and Freddy about as soft as I've ever seen him. Look, its not his fault and it's unfair to single him out but continually picking Banfield when we desperately need more attacking out of the backline is infuriatingly stupid.

It wasn't pre planned move. JL said in the presser as such

Did he give a reason why Wagner? If ever there was a night Jackson's role wasn't working and we needed to bin a tall this seemed it. Amiss started on the bench Q4 with Jackson in the square.

No he basically dribbled shit and said it was hard to make a decision

No. He didn't say the reason. Only that there were few options

Wags didn't seem to have much impact last night and I don't think he was fully fit. If he was tagging McCluggage, Mccluggage was getting off the hook

I think vanilla is a bit of a reach.
vanilla is made from the flower of an orchid, it’s awesome. Nothing to do with last night’s performance!

I saw a team that was nervous, which couldn’t buy a goal, and got the rough end of the pineapple from the officials, and which probably tried too hard in response, trying to make every kick perfect rather than go fast which was what was required.

Spot on. That’s what I saw too.

Something changed with NOD. He was holding width earlier in season, getting the ball etc. Now he seemingly is never open, not wide and sucked in to the contest too much.
I'm not sure if it's a coaching directive or he's lost the plot. His stats have halved from what they were since Round 19.

I agree with what JL said in relation to how we played coming from behind in comparison to other games

In other games, we've been able to keep our heads with good decision making and execution. Kicked the goals when required. Then on top of that you have a far superior oppo who can punish you on turnover when you open up the game

That Treacy mark in the goal and play on captured this. The lions punished by quickly sling shot this up the middle.

It was noticeable they don’t take an eternity to take every kick in. They also don’t wait 10 seconds after each mark. That’s all on the coaches.

So much this. Was thinking at the time just put him on.

Ok wouldn't have made a difference in the end but just such an obvious coaching move.
He should have come on at half time in place of NOD who was absolutely terrible. If he broke down so be it but at least he would have given us a chance to not get cut up out of centre bounce straight after half time when we were still in it.

Ryan has said publicly that he doesnt like kick ins and it shows every week so dont you think after how many years of it we might have trained up a couple of other players to do the kick in.

Their game plan was what Sydney did to us, and what they did to Sydney in the GF. We had no answers for it.

Except we doubled down with some of the worst skills and decision making I've seen in years.

That one hurts a lot

We had so much to play for, I really don't trust our clubs underbelly, it's just cursed.
I don’t agree with the first part, I think Brisbane and their game plan were the least influential on the Result. I’d have it this ratio:

  • Freo players shitting the bed: 70%
  • Umpiring: 15%
  • Coaching: 10%
  • Brisbane’s tactics and performance: 5%

Put simply, we kick at least four goals in the first quarter under normal circumstances, the crowd get into and I reckon we pull away in the second quarter and then Brisbane are chasing.

And it wasn’t just the kicking at goal, the fumbles, turnovers, missed handballs were West Coast 2025 like.
