Autopsy Richmond's backline ranked #16 in the AFL

Grimes is a good defender but that's it, very much like Gaspar only kicks better, but he is not big enough to be a number 1 or 2 defender so he is number 3 and needs to be more attacking IMO.

pretty interesting looking back at this. We'd be top 3 for sure

If Port hadn't kicked that last goal, we would be number 1. Behind Port by 2 points.

I think it's safe to say that if Rance went down, our backline, while still obviously weakened due to the calibre of player that Rance is, would actually still manage to hold up. David Astbury has become a very good footballer, and Dylan Grimes is also a very consistent 3rd tall that can also play small.

Astbury specifically has become the player that we thought he could become this season, and the best thing for him is, he's doing it in a good team for once. He's stood up and played good footy in poor Richmond sides before, but his improvement has been off the charts, and the team is slowly becoming a contender because of it (among other things).

Not so sure about our forward line holding up if Jack went down, however that's for another thread! :p basically we need either Griffiths/Elton to "do an Astbury" and become a consistent footballer.

One of the best, if not the best, backline in the AFL. Suspect that from here on we will become number 1 clearly.

Just got to get he forward line scoring. That is the problem area.

We still need to draft another key back. The only reason we're not talking about our lack of depth there is because we have 3 gun talls instead of 1. Garthwaite probably not tall enough on his own. If we managed to retain the two first rounders and get a forward through free agency (or used one on a forward), the other pick should be used on a defender.
