Cameron Conlon, Sam Gray, Fraser Fort, Brent Renouf. We then also have Kane Mitchell, Danny Flynn and potentially rugby boy ( Venter?) Is that too many rookies?

Have to take one away, because we already have Mitchell as a category A rookie. Out of the guys you have there, I would say we should take Conlon, Fort, and Renouf (only because we committed to it). Flynn and Venter are category B rookies, so we can have them in addition to the category A guys.

Darcy Cameron the 203cm 102kg WA ruck as one rookie, one of Dale, Templeton, Reynolds, Battersby, Drummond take your pick as the other. Mitchell and Renouf make up the final spots.

This years Colquhoun. Short, slow, vanilla, questions over his contested ball winning ability.

Wut. Contested ball is his bread and butter. Similar dimensions to Colquhoun but a different player IMO - better in the contest, better overhead. Played a role for SA this year in the backline but can play anywhere on the park. Similar to Impey, I guess - so I don't see us picking him.

Really like Drummond has speed and endurance, good kick, is tough at the ball, can tackle, good evasive skills, shows he can learn the press tactic as he pushes right up to defensive midfield, can read the play well and is really good at being that last man in defense and clearing it out to a target (like Jonas), gets enough of the ball based off his stats in the TAC cup.

Small but not quick. Pigeon holed as a back pocket. Every year there are guys like him unfortunately. He is a good footballer.

I can't believe people still want Hourigan. Matt Martin all over again.
Paul Evans

Not sure if Rioli can make it in an AFL environment. From what I've seen he uses that weight as an advantage by pushing guys 10cm taller than him off the ball to gain possession of the ball. If the AFL recruiters tell him to lose weight he could lose that trait.

I think if he replaces 10kg of flab with 10kg of muscle, he'll find it even easier to outbody people.

Did Mitch Thorp get picked up in the national draft??

Is jed redden still available ?

Sure is! I don't see him on our list with Renouff a certainty and Conlon still available! A year in the SANFL won't hurt him though, Sean Lemmens benefitted from an extra year as a dime a dozen midfielder. Will follow closely!

Byron Picket begs to differ. I once heard Kevin Sheedy talk at a private function, he spoke about the influence of Stewy Dew in 2008, his words were "Every side is better with a fat guy in their forward Six, they kick goals and impact play with out possessions!"

As long as he is aware and quick enough to pick up his player on the turnover ...we can't have anyone who gives the opposition a player to use to get out of our forward line and the number of times a player needs to be rotated could become a factor....thinking if we are picking Willie up it will be because we think we can turn him into a lean mean running machine.

Shame we didn't delist another two. There are some interesting players in that list.

Are there any project rucks available?

I'd hope we are secure in the depth of our squad now that we could get a project ruckman with some physical talent (or two) on the rookie list.

So Impey's best mate is the undrafted Drummond, who we were linked to pre-draft.

Knightmare's write up in his phantom draft

  1. #45 Port Adelaide (via Brisbane) – Nathan Drummond (VIC – Mid/Def)
    Height: 181cm, Weight: 82kg, DOB: 19/01/1995
    Recruited from: Murray Bushrangers
    Style:
Player comparison: Ben Sinclair (stronger bodied)
    Range: 30-rookie
Profile: Drummond has a hard edge to him and some nice pace with the ability to play midfield or down back. He’s a nice athletic mix with his pace, endurance and leaping ability. He’ll go in hard and put his head over the footy. He’s a strong mark for his size and has the ability to win some 1v1 contests as well as some nice ability in the air with his leap. The one improvement I’ve enjoyed in his game, we all knew he had that offensive pace last year but he’s really improved his tackling game and pressuring effort. He need to start winning more of the footy more often but if he can get his hands on it more and learn to play more within his limitations, particularly by foot where he can try to do too much he has the opportunity to really develop into something.

Makes you wonder if we'd have taken him at 52 if Bryne-Jones wasn't available. They sound like very similar types.

Knightmare's write up on Conlon

  1. #67 Collingwood - Cameron Conlon (VIC – KPF/Ruck)
    Height: 197cm, Weight: 90kg, DOB:
    Recruited from: Northern Knights
    Style: Patrick Ryder (forward version)
    Player comparison: Nathan Vardy
    Range: 30 - undrafted
Profile: Real talent who has shown some immense promise up forward. As a key forward Conlon has the ability to really develop into something at the next level. He’s an athletic forward who can pinch hit in the ruck as required but he’s a guy you want in the forward half. He’s a good marking threat in the air with his leap and strong hands. He’s also got incredible agility at his size and has rare ability at ground level for his size while also showing some ability on the lead with his pace particularly standing out. He also converts from his set shot opportunities. He just hasn’t shown that he finds all that much of the ball to this point all that consistently and it’s only those first two games of 2012 where he really showed promise so it’s just hard to gauge where he’s at as he hasn’t played this year. Where he will feature in this draft as there is no recent form to measure him against makes his eventual draft placing one of the more intriguing in this draft.

Drummond
Dwayne Wilson
Cameron Conlon
Renouf

You forgot Mitchell has re-signed and is staying on the rookie list, so you can only have 3 of those 4.

it's a pity the mix of players that we have picked might not let us pick up the real quality.

picking up Harvey i think would make us shy from Conlon who i like. our small group probably leads us away from Battersby and Wilson(picked Amon ahead of him so i am happy to back the group and pass on him now) and Renouf wipes out Cameron. Ideally i would pick up Templeton, Cameron and Battersby. however given that one is set to Renouf and we only have 2 picks, i just am not sure how i feel about having 2 rucks on the rookie list. Drummond is too similar to a few we have already drafted.

at the moment i would probably go one of,

1. Templeton, Battersby
2. Gray, Fort. if Cameron is here, he will be hard to pass on.
3. Renouf

saying that.... being the rookie draft, i expect wtf picks at every go.
