In defence, the lack of intensity from Farrell and Burton is and always has been a problem. The lack of skills to execute from Jones and to a lesser extent Ratugolea is a problem. The lack of speed from Z Thatcher is a problem.
Agree re Farrell & Burtons lack of urgency has been a problem for years. Farrell will never change, it's in his DNA. I have no expectations re Burton, gave up 2 years ago. Thought Jones tried hard & he's only just come back & is the type of player that requires a few games to find some touch. Skill wise he really hasn't improved which is a poor reflection on our training & player development.

I know he's a hipster doofus but I really like Brodie Grundy and his game. He's so strong.
... and yesterday he was up against a kid who might be an AFL player one day and a guy who will never be an AFL player

Yesterday Grundy had 22 disposals, 8 marks, 34 hit outs and 4 tackles. Between them our two had 10 disposals, 3 marks, 27 hit outs and 3 tackles. On the stats alone Grundy was worth an extra player for Sydney.

This team doesn’t know how to fight through adversity. It was obvious from the first bounce Sydney were going to make it as difficult as they could for us. We still don’t have any successful response to that approach.

When’s the last time we got rocked by a seriously good team early and recovered to win?

The 2014 Freo semi?

I think it was the same last week with the Gawnster.

With Wines out, jHF playing injured, Bergs playing injured, Drew out of form , Grundy dominant, we only had Butters to get contested hard balls.. Liddy and Mead were are fill ins . Thats why Id be chasing Worpel , yes hes another poorer user of the ball, but he can win the ball at the source and feed it out. A major improvement in depth.

You look at someone like Matthew Kennedy at the Scray — coming aboard for pick 38 after stints at GWS and Carlton — and can’t help but conclude Davies is all tip and no iceberg.

I understood why he did it but moving Rozee into the midfield killed our run and carry. Given our injuries I thought Jackson should’ve stayed in and played in the middle.
Hornet was playing injured so they tried to protect him forward, so we were missing 2 quality inside mids which f$$ked us as well.
BZT couldn’t lift to cover Allir and Jones’ ball use let us down.
Rioli was poor and MG was well covered.
We couldn’t nullify Blakey.
Truth is, we were only a sniff because they kicked for goal so poorly. They were clearly better.

So many posters here replicating the same issues:
Locker room culture poor
Players don't know their roles
Lack of a defined game plan
Game strategy too complicated
Rely on one-off emotional wins
Poor assistant coaches
Don't have answers to bad performances.

I'd add:
Sydney were "into" us before the first bounce, and we were stunned cos we weren't expecting it.
Can't change to plans B or C during a match - clearly we don't have any.
Don't fine tune and hone tactics for specific scenarios (see Coll and Cats), nor know where their team mates are instinctively, without having to search for them.

We could go on, but the failings are obvious.

The game plan and DNA/ culture needs a radical re-tooling, not some minor tweaks. That takes time for a full buy-in by players, and for them to understand, embrace and adopt the shift in strategy. Meaning even the best coaches struggle to get good results for one, even two, years.

So don't expect next year to suddenly be all milk and honey. Brace for a period of average performances until it all gels into a defining masterclass - well we all hope that it will.

Proof. Pudding. Eating.

Sydney knew that we are beatable. They came here with the right attitude and we melted.

The drop off in effort and intensity from the previous two weeks was huge. it’s baffling that we could’ve rested on our laurels after only two wins in a row when we were 6 and 7 and still 3 wins out of the 8. The bar for satisfaction this year is remarkably low.

Piss weak.
The players will have a very good knowledge of whether they can beat the opposition in front of them and then on game day it becomes a reality.

They would've seen Sydney and it was more than likely it was going to be a tight, hard fought game with some big ins for them and a couple of outs for us. So the boys cruised to the loss.

They would've looked at Melbourne the week before and know they like it open and sensed that Oliver and Petracca are passed it and thought they had the capacity for a win.

Like Hinkley, without heart and without merit.

I can’t believe you read and comment on a forum about a team you no longer support.
I support the Port Adelaide Football Club. This is a Port forum.

I support the most successful football club in the history of the sport, not "a little club from Alberton". I support a club where the captain wears the #1, not a club that can't make a decision and ends up with two blokes trying to share it. I support a club that exists to win premierships, not a club that just wants to proudery makery the community.

I support the club that's existed since 1870 and will continue to exist long after these current jokers and parasites have left. And most of all I'll support Josh Carr, once the biggest parasite finally makes way.

If you are willing to happily tolerate this garbage I'd question whether you actually support Port Adelaide.
